One way to fix School Shootings. Maryland version.

You shoot the asshole.

A gunman who shot and wounded two students at Great Mills High School in Maryland was killed Tuesday after engaging an armed school resource officer, an official said.
The shooter was the only fatality. A female student was critically injured and a male student was also shot but is in stable condition at a hospital, authorities said.
“Our school resource officer was alerted to the event. he pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, fired a round at the shooter,” St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron said. “The shooter fired a round as well. In the hours and days to come, we’ll be able to determine if our school resource officer’s round struck the shooter.

Shooter dead, two injured after shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland

See? Low numbers. Game Over. You eliminate the temptation of having easy targets around and the fascination to be a Mass Shooter will eventually disappear.

Remember, they are crazy, not stupid; getting shot apparently hurts. Even if the want to commit suicide, they do not want to be known as the lame ass that failed.

Florida Constitution Revision Commission: Amendment by Commissioners Coxe, Plymale, Joyner, and Kruppenbacher

As usual, the link to the text itself is provided, go and check it. I am offering a summary of the amendment. I will stress that this are not just simple additions to the Florida Statutes but changes to the Florida Constitution that only happen every 20 years. That means if passed, they are set in stone and even the Florida Supreme Court will have to abide by them for the next two decades at least.

Commissioners Coxe, Plymale, Joyner, and Kruppenbacher.

Commissioner Hank Coxe (Bio), Commissioner Sherry Plymale (Bio), Commissioner Arthenia Joyner (Bio) and Commissioner Frank Kruppenbacher (Bio) bring us the following amendment (Text here):

  • Balancing a respect for, and under no circumstances violating, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and as interpreted by the United States Supreme Court, with an equal respect for the lives of all citizens of Florida, it is the policy of the State of Florida that…” (Cute interpretation of Natural rights being somehow against Citizens and need to be controlled by the government and this making them privileges.)
  • Mandatory waiting period of 10 days.
  • Ban of “Assault Weapons” with no grandfathering provision.
  • Ban on Bumpfire devices.
  • Ban on magazines with more than nine (9) rounds.

This is possibly the nastiest of the bunch so far.

There is an obvious game play with all the amendments: “Hey Bubba, I have a bad amendment and a really shitty amendment, you get to pic one, if not, you may lose and get shafted by a tractor implement. Deal?”

Let’s not fall for it. All the commissioners will be pressured by the media and using Sinead Gonzales and Junior Goebbles Hogg as pity battery rams. We don’t have that kind of media access so we are to do a direct approach.

Here is the list of commissioners and how to reach them. use it wisely and often.

Once again, what gets approved with this Florida Constitution Revision Commission will stay for at least 20 years. By then we could be the New Jersey of the South.

Let’s try not to do that.

Florida Constitution Revision Commission: Commissioner Roberto Martinez’s Amendment.

Commissioner Roberto Martinez.

The amendment  (text here) to the Florida Constitution brought forward by Commissioner Roberto Martinez (Bio).

  • Seals the minimum purchase date of a firearm to 21 years of age and older.
  • A Waiting Period of 3 days for the purchase of a Firearm while a ” comprehensive background check” (whatever the heck that could be) occurs. The waiting period can be extended if the background check does not happen during that time.
  • Banning of bumpfire and devices that “alter the rate of a firearm to mimic automatic weapon fire or which is used to increase the rate of fire to a faster rate than is possible for a person to fire a semiautomatic firearm unassisted by a kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device.”

Florida Constitution Revision Commission: Commissioner Chris Smith’s Amendment.

Commissioner Chris Smith

There are two amendments to the Florida Constitution brought forward by Commissioner Roberto Martinez (Bio).

    • Assault Weapons Ban (undefined what constitutes an “Assault Weapon” other than the ability to hold 10 or more rounds in a fixed or removable magazine. (text here)
    • Defining “transfer of an “assault weapon” as “the conveyance of an assault weapon from a person or entity to another person or entity, without any associated conveyance of money or other valuable consideration” (text here)

Notice that the second proposal makes illegal the simple loan or even handing over of one of these Evil Black Rifles as if they were contaminated with some nefarious Liberty Virus that could not be allowed to propagate.

He’s got still two more amendments added, but they are basically repetitions of the above. Still they all are Gun Control and need to be kept away from the Florida Constitution.

Florida Alert: Anti-gun CRC Members Want Gun Bans in the Florida Constitution

Here we go again. Here is what they are proposing. Remember, this is not just a new law but the State Constitution. If passed, all state courts will have to abide by it and that means a longer and more expensive challenge to take it to Federal Court to battle.

A proposal to amend Sections 2 and 8 of Article I of the State Constitution to remove a provision authorizing laws that regulate or prohibit the ownership, inheritance, disposition, and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship, to limit the age to purchase a firearm to at least twenty-one years of age, to require three days between the purchase and delivery of a firearm, to require a comprehensive background check during the period between the purchase and delivery of a firearm as prescribed by law, and to prohibit specified acts relating to the sale and possession of a bump-fire stock.

And the title is amended as follows:
Delete lines 88 – 89
and insert:
law, to prohibit specified acts relating to the sale and possession of a bump fire stock, and to prohibit the sale and transfer of assault weapons. s.

A proposal to amend Section 8 of Article I of the State Constitution to limit the age to purchase a firearm to at least twenty-one years of age, to require ten days between the purchase and delivery of a firearm, to require a comprehensive background check during the period between the purchase and delivery of a firearm as prescribed by law, to prohibit specified acts relating to the sale and possession of a bump-fire stock, to prohibit the sale and possession of assault weapons, and to prohibit the sale and possession of large capacity magazines.

A proposal to amend Sections 2 and 8 of Article I of the State Constitution to remove a provision authorizing laws that regulate or prohibit the ownership, inheritance, disposition, and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship, and to prohibit the sale and transfer of assault weapons.

I will go in detail the next days about each proposal.

But in the meantime, start emailing the crap out of the people in the Constitutional Commission. NRA Alert follows.

Some of the members of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) are very anti-gun and they are proposing and pushing gun ban and gun control amendments to put in the Florida Constitution.

Commissioners will be voting on these amendments soon. Links to these amendments are listed at the bottom.

Among these amendments are:

*An “assault weapons” ban which bans the distribution, sale, transfer, and possession of so-called assault weapons and any detachable magazine that has a capacity of more than 9 rounds.  (Makes possession illegal with no compensation provided for those already possessed that must be surrendered)

*A ban on any semi-automatic rifle that is able to accept a detachable magazine or has a fixed magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds. (that means almost all semi-automatic rifles)

*A ban on the sale and transfer of “assault weapons” and defines “transfer” as the conveyance “from a person or entity to another person or entity WITHOUT any conveyance of money or other valuable consideration.”  (Note: to “convey” between persons without compensation could mean the simple act of handing the firearm to another person while hunting, on the range, or anywhere)

*A 10 day waiting period (excluding weekends and legal holidays) on all firearms to facilitate a background check.

*A ban on the purchase of any firearm by a person under 21 years of age.

*A ban on the sale, transfer and possession of bump stocks and other accessories, tools, kits, etc.

Please email CRC Commissioners and tell them to OPPOSE gun control amendments!

PLEASE DO IT NOW!!! They could be voting on these amendments at any time!

On CCW and Mass Shooting Incidents.

Braden posted this comment on “Making our point for us in Thousand Oaks“.

“Since when is it my job to protect other people? We are told we are not police and when we come to the aid of strangers we do so with some legal peril.

My CCW is for me and my family and maybe, just maybe, a stranger.”

He is not wrong even if we disagree because the question of what to do as a Civilian in case of a Mass Shooting Incident simply does not have one answer.

I have been thinking about the “right” answer since I got my FL CWP and you will probably see it reflected in the blog if you have been with us since the beginning. I kept changing my answer: First i was all gun-ho and “Hell Yes! I will fill the asshole full of holes!” and then as time passed and the realities set in, I went to “OH hell no!” and it has been back and forth and in between for a long time.

The conclusion I came to is that the answer will never be known till you are involved in a situation like that and after having all factors processed in one big ass hurry. Are you alone? Are you with armed family? Are you with unarmed family and kids? Is the shooter coming your way? Is he going away? Is he above/below you? Are people running away from the shooter and stampeding towards you? Are you full of health that day? Are you sick? Can you and yours evacuate? Are you cornered and ran out of choices?

And even if you die, it does not mean your answer was wrong.

The permutations are endless.
