Can we at least get a gun with a trigger guard? And a holster?

Back when I was still living South of the Caribbean,  a cop friend of mine gave me a derringer .22LR as a gift. Now, this is Venezuela and getting a gun is hard even back then and for free? I took it, shot it twice and put it away. P.O.S. is not a strong adjective to describe it. I swear not even as throw-away at crime scenes.

With the universe of micro-pistols of great quality and bigger capacity we have nowadays, there is no reason other than collectibles to own a derringer.

  1. had one once. .38 FIE derringer. Yeah, free (I found it in a place we moved in to in 1985, with a nice Bianchi holster for it). Hideously unsafe to carry with both chambers loaded, as one or the other firing pin rested on one of the primers. But that was something I carried sometimes, back in those dark days.

  2. I would love a .41 Remington rimfire derringer, and a .22 Remington Vest Pocket- but as collector guns, not as carry guns.
A Kel-Tec P32 would be just as small & easy to carry (or smaller/easier), is cheap as chips, and is not going to go bang when you drop it.

  3. For something really tiny yet drop-safe, there’s the NAA Mini-revolver. The current model has a notch between the chambers for the hammer to rest. They’ll do the retrofit on earlier models at no charge.
(Note however, that in the process they will also redo a pile of other things. Mine was marked with the CA factory address. When it came back, the frame apart from serial number had been sanded matte, removing all those markings, and it was now marked with their current Utah address. I’d rather they hadn’t done that, or at least had asked first.)

      1. Yes, the retrofit is very nice and effective. And they replaced a whole lot of stuff, I still have the repair slip somewhere and it has quite a long list of parts replaced, all at no charge.
I just wish they hadn’t messed up the classic CA address. I’m not a collector — if I wereI would have been very seriously bent out of shape.
