I am losing track of just how many posts I’ve made of examples of rhetoric and acts by people on the Left that is on the edge of violently dangerous.
Mitch McConnell is the Senate Majority Leader, and because of it is one of the most politically influential people in the country.
He was chased out of a restaurant in Kentucky by activist, some who were associated with the Democratic Socialist of Louisville.
That is bad enough. One of the protesters made it worse.

“I know where you live” is a threat. This is not something we can beat around the bush about. It is a threat.
The Senate Majority Leader was threatened in his home state by some radical protesters.

Democrats: Do Not Surrender the Judiciary
Remember, the Senate’s roll in all of this is to “advise and consent” so a new SCOTUS pick, so Mitch McConnell is going to be at the center of attention in a few days.
This is all the more reason for Democrats and progressives to take a page from “The Godfather” and go to the mattresses on this issue. Because this battle is about more than a single seat on the nation’s highest court. With public attention focused on all that is at stake with this alignment, this is the moment for Democrats to drive home to voters the crucial role that the judiciary plays in shaping this nation, and why the courts should be a key voting concern in Every. Single. Election.
Now, I hate the movie The Godfather (I hate mob movies in general, and I don’t understand why The Godfather is supposedly all that great) but if I remember it correctly, the latter part of the movie involves a lot of people getting killed and a scene about taking the cannoli.
Is this really the best language to use for this situation?
Again, what we see here is a problem of layers. The New York Times says something that could be interpreted as condoning violence and perhaps even assassination, then there is a smaller group that takes to in-your-face protests, inside that group is someone making threats. The next layer down is someone willing to pull a Michael Corleone and shoot someone in the face at a restaurant over business.
As the higher layers grow in numbers and the intensity of the rhetoric that will filter down until the people willing to pull the trigger actually do it.
Trump should be announcing his SCOTUS pick this week.
To listen to the protesters that justice will overnight outlaw abortion, segregate the schools, and somehow re-institute slavery. I’m still not sure how, but then again I learned about how SCOTUS works from a member of the Florida Bar and not CNN.
Depending on who gets nominated, the vitriol will only increase. Then we’ll have to see how that filters down.
My recommendation to Mitch McConnell is get a KY CCW (if he doesn’t already have one) and ram through some national reciprocity with some added bonunses.
I’d support 100% the right of members of Congress to be armed in the Capitol and elsewhere.

Re “I’d support 100% the right of members of Congress to be armed in the Capitol and elsewhere” — I don’t. What I support is the right of any Member to be armed if his constituents have the same right. Some years ago I proposed this “Equal Protection Amendment”:
1. No person holding any office under the United States, or any of them, may keep or bear any arms except those that may be borne by all law abiding competent adult citizens both in his place of residence and in the location of his office.
2. No person holding any office under the United States, or any of them, may be protected by any personal arms he is barred from keeping under the previous article.
I can’t help with the politics, but I can explain why The Godfather is so highly regarded.
If you’re below a certain age you saw all of the tropes introduced with The Godfather in other films. By the time you got around to seeing it, the surprises had been ruined because they’re old and worn out now.
When the movie was new, it was the first film to do what it did. We’re just too young to see it as it was seen when it was first in theaters.
