Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez promised us that she will only take 70% over $10 million.
I guess Nate here makes so little that $60,000 might as well be $10 million, and he wants to take it.
When everyone on the right said that AOC’s tax plan would never work and the middle class would end up getting hit by it, here comes Nate to prove them right.
By Nate’s standards I’m a kulak, and I guess he is going to support de Blasio and AOC taking most of my money too.

So, according to Nate, a middle class family should be taxed at higher rate (how much higher is not specified) to fund keeping millions out of poverty. What started out as “Make the Rich Pay Their Fair Share” has become “If You Make More than Me You’re Evil Rich.” Aside from the obvious issues of the math not adding up, and sustainability over time, I can think of no better way to ruin the economy. If you are a competent, skilled worker, and have 80 or 90 percent of your state mandated salary taken to feed, clothe, and house someone who’s only job skill involves signing up for the dole, why would you bust your ass to do a good job, or even show up for work. You can make more working off the books even if you have to bribe the commissars to look the other way..

There is probably no better way to destroy the US than what they’re after. Back in 2010, Zerohedge ran a piece showing that “a one-parent family of three making $14,500 a year (minimum wage) has more disposable income than a family making $60,000 a year.” It’s called the Welfare Cliff. As the minimum wage earner’s income goes up, state benefits get taken away and the quality of life goes down,

It is a 9 year old study so it has probably gotten worse. I’m sure some numbers must have changed.

So, if we monetize benefits, I likely gross around $140 000. Let’s call it $120 000, so the math is simple. I’m a PA in an urgent care. In order to avoid Ms.Ocasio-Cortez new taxes, I’ll work 3, not 6, shifts of 12 hours each.
Simply do not get sick or injured three days each 2 week pay period. And, successfully guess which days.

It is actually very difficult to find the history of the 16th Amendment being ratified (as in what was “the pitch” for granting the federal government such power to take a portion of your labor).
Once you dig into it enough, you start seeing the age old pattern emerge. The pitch is always to tell the vast majority of people that “you won’t have to pay for it because it’s only those wealthy fat cats that are going to be taxed”. Yet, that always expands to the lower income earners. The first tax rate was 1% on people making over 3k a year and later a tiered system emerged with those making over 500k paying 7%. Adjusting for inflation from 1913 to 2019, that would be 1% for those earning over $76k per year and 7% for those earning over $12.7 million.
Always remember that was considered the “fair share” in 1913.
Progressives have a history of legislating what in any other context would be considered a criminal fraud. FDR was especially good at this, over and over.
I always say that we have the richest poor people in the world. Anyone who signs up can get $130 worth of free food every month, on average, for every person in the household. That will buy a lot of basic staples, like flour, dried beans, pasta, ramen, and other stuff. Or, if you have under-the-table income, that will buy steaks and pre-packaged food. And that is JUST THE FOOD STAMPS.
You also get a free cell phone, free meals for your kids at school, housing subsidies or free housing, discounts on your utilities, and many other perks.
And don’t forget private charities, who make their donors feel good about themselves for dropping a few hundred bucks a year.
For Christmas, just sign up to a dozen nearby churches, and all of your kid’s presents will be free from the generous flocks of the churches.
We do not have any starving people in the country, except for new illegals who haven’t signed up yet.
AND YET, they tell us that we need to pay 90% of our income to feed the poor.
WHAT poor?
