It is OK, everybody has been caught off guard by The Onion once or twice. They do a great job.
But doubling down on stupid is not the best policy to make people think you are serious about what you preach…or at least halfway sane.

Actually I don’t see how this one is an issue. They didn’t give any indication that they believed the Onion to be factually true, and instead were well aware of its nature as satire. Satire they happen to approve of….
