I was not aware of most of it…
One of my co-workers was a. former Old Guard and Tomb Guard. He gave me a tour of the facility and Arlington. That story is one of many all the guards are required to know.
The grammar of that piece is interesting. Not surprising, given its age, that no split infinitive is to be found in it, but in several spots I found the word order a bit odd. I wonder if the writer was a native of Holland or Germany, given to slipping back to the word order of the old country on occasions.
For example “…bring back to his native soil the American soldier’s body”.
