Unbeknownst to me, at the same time that I was punting the hornets nest on the issue of Gun Culture 2.0 and women, SayUncle was covering a post by PJ Media on items for women at NRAAM.
The theme was: gun + pink = lady gun.
I have heard the complaint ad nauseam that pink guns don’t appeal to women.
So let me set the record straight on my beliefs on this issue.
I am an ardent free market capitalist. I believe if there is a niche out there that is not being filled or being filled poorly, fill it yourself.
There are guns that I want, and would LOVE to have that nobody makes. Why don’t other companies make them? I don’t know.
God, luck, and financed willing, one day I’ll be rolling my own when it comes to guns. I’ll design what I think will sell.
If I’m right… BANK!!!
If I’m not… bust (or change in business model).
All I can do is encourage more women who like shooting to start their own ranges and their own training schools and even their own gun or accessory companies.
I don’t want to design guns for women, for the same reason I don’t want to design pants for women. I don’t know what they want.
But, if one day, I’m cranking out my own products, I’ll be happy to hire some women shooters to design what they think will attract more women into shooting, and we’ll let the market see if they’re right.
There is plenty of room in the tent for everybody.
The pink guns have to appeal to *somebody* or I wouldn’t be seeing so many of them.
Also powder-blue and, of course, the best color: red.
I don’t care what color or gender a person is, or what color (or gender!) firearm they like to shoot; only that they shoot, shoot well, enjoy it, and support 2A. That’s the only cut of their jib I care about. The rest… just get out and have fun.
If I had a pink gun aimed at a bad guy and he doesn’t take me seriously, then that gives me an advantage. Win!
My wife’s personal preference is purple. She’s never been real big on pink.
A very good female friend of mine was previously anti-gun. Once I got her to the range and taught her how to be safe and how to properly handle and shoot, she fell head-over-high-heels in love with shooting and guns. I offered to go with her to the gun store (once I got back from a 2 day trip) and help her choose something that she could really use and carry. And before I could turn around she shows me her new pistol, that she just went out and purchased, because….. PINK. She hadn’t even tried the trigger or racking the slide in the store. Just PINK. Sigh….. She likes shooting it though; AFTER we got her trigger finger conditioned to handle the 12 lb trigger pull…….
I kinda dig on funky colored guns. My wife is AMAZINGLY traditional. She likes all-black, Stainless and black, and blue and walnut.
