Somebody needs a dictionary.

The fatal crash of a Blue Angels jet during a practice run in Tennessee prompted a San Francisco supervisor to say Friday that the Navy’s aerial stunt team should be barred from flying over the city when it performs here during Fleet Week in October.
Supervisor John Avalos said he plans to introduce a nonbinding resolution by August that would demand that the team of six F/A-18 fighter jets fly only over the bay during its practices and air shows.“It’s about them crashing and hitting a building — a place where people live,” Avalos said. “It’s about the terror that they cause in people when they strafe neighborhoods. That’s something I hear about all the time when Blue Angels fly overhead.”

strafe

  1. 1.

attack repeatedly with bombs or machine-gun fire from low-flying aircraft.

    “military aircraft strafed the village”

I have been at more than a couple of Blue Angel shows and I do not recall any strafing. I asked around and people who have also attended do not remember any bombs dropping or cannon fire destroying ground targets.

We all agreed that it may make the show even more popular and probably it should start strafing idiots in the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

  1. The should just cancel Fleet Week in SFO and give it to a city that appreciates it!!! They don’t deserve the $10-15 million they make on those FIVE days… F**k them…

  2. Tell the Blue Angels that if they need someplace to practice they can fly in Florida anytime. All day, every day.

(My desktop background is a picture I took of them during the local air show a little over a year ago)

  3. I caught that misuse of “strafing”, too. The Blue Angels (along with every other stunt flying team) flies with NO munitions on board. It’s not just the danger of pressing the wrong button or having bigger explosions if something should go wrong. It’s also that munitions are HEAVY, and the extra weight makes tight, tricky maneuvers more difficult if not impossible.

But I also noticed in the bolded comment (new emphasis mine): “It’s about the terror that they cause in people when they strafe neighborhoods. That’s something I hear about all the time when Blue Angels fly overhead.”

In this SF “supervisor’s” head, U.S. military stunt pilots are terrorists.

  4. When I read lines like this, I always wonder where, exactly, do they dredge up the morons?

Then, I always remind myself: never underestimate the power of stupid people in large cities.

  5. Believe it or not, idiotic statements like this can actually achieve their goals. After Hosea Williams (a ’50s/’60s Civil Rights hero and well-known activist in GA) said he was against airshows at Dobbins ARB in Marietta because “Those bombs on the planes fall off during those supersonic airshow speeds” and then called in political points, there were no airshows for over a decade.

  6. I think he’s related to the idiot politician (but I repeat myself) that was concerned that the island of Guam would flip over due to too many US Marines being there.

  7. There’s another definition.

In video gaming the term means to basically to face forward while moving left or right usually at an angle. It’s basically side stepping in football.

This makes me believe he meant something else entirely different, they strafe neighborhoods by flying real low lol
