So the most sensible conclusion and wisest investment would be (not considered in this study due to being a different element of self defense firearms that has nothing to do with Powerful Calibers)… a .556/223 30rd. caliber rifle with 30 rd. magazine, such as the Springfield Edge. And a 9mm handgun with 4-5″ barrel with high capacity double stack magazine, such as the Springfield XDM 9mm with 19 rd. mags.
something I heard years ago: Handgun calibers are inefficient man-stoppers, but we carry sidearms because the portability.
Also another point is, today’s advanced bullet nose technology, such as Lehigh Defense’s various ammo types. The Xtreme Defender literally makes all calibers from .380 to 44 mag. virtually the same regarding bullet damage.
Then the Xtreme Penetrator is able to handle the more challenging barriers, even though the Xtreme Defender does quite well. However, if in-home defense where over penetration is a serious concern, their Maximum Expansion bullet is unrivalled in the ‘hollow point’ market, with the greatest expansion of any of its competitors’ offerings, while penetrating between 10-13 inches and between 1-2 inches of expansion depending on the caliber.
Their Close Quarters ammo is the best I’ve seen for the 556 and 752/308.
Are there any bullet/cartridge offerings on the market that realistically avoid penetration in the home? I remember seeing some videos of supposed “safe” rounds like the Glaser, which in that test went right through several layers of sheetrock. Given that performance, there is no reason to spend the large amount of extra money when you can get overpenetration much more cheaply from hollow points.
