MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Murfreesboro pastor and his family are at the center of a shocking machete assault in a grocery store parking lot.
Murfreesboro Police say it happened at the Kroger on S. Church Street. Sunday afternoon, Pastor Jerry Weeden, his wife and their two grandchildren went grocery shopping. As they pulled into a parking spot, there was a shopping cart blocking the way.
…Rev. Weeden pastors Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. He says the suspect quickly became angry as the two had a verbal exchange.
“He got irate,” said Rev. Weeden. “One word led to another and then he proceeds to get out of his car with a machete.”
The interaction continued to get heated. At one point, the suspect pulled out a second, larger machete and even threatened to hit Weeden’s wife, Denise, with his car.

Oh hell yes I am. I have seen twice what they can do and seen the cuts up and personal at a local ER in Caracas. Machetes do not leave nice small cuts, but effing hideous long and deep lacerations. And they have enough mass to cut/crack your skull with much effort.
You have two choices when somebody waves a machete in anger at you: run like hell or be ready to stop him. The Tueller drill for machete is measures in zip codes.

Don’t be impatient or impolite when dealing with strangers.
This appears to have started because the pastor got out of his car to move a shopping cart out of a parking spot while Mr Machete was unloading it into his car.
If he’d simply waited or moved to a different parking spot this would not be a story.
I imagine several words were exchanged before the machetes came out.
There’s a broader point here wizardpc is touching on. Machete or not, or any weapon for that matter…parking lots are dangerous places. People moving around in a confined space with vehicles, getting in or out of cars means alot of chances for interaction. And people these days take offense to everything. Best to park farther out if you can to avoid said interactions if possible. Which can be difficult during busy times. Use sound judgment.
As for dealing with machetes, others have already said it…run away or mag dump.
Yep. I always park far away, usually, if available, 40 feet from nearest parked car. Extra bonus, besides security, is I get a little exercise in.
But be careful, head on a swivel, while walking at a brisk pace to the store. If anything goes down—a rare possibility, to be sure—you can identify it. If possible, just turn around and go back to your car.
A machete is not a knife, despite what the news media tells you. It’s a particularly nasty form of sword. It should be respected as such.
Likewise, hatchets, axes, and sledgehammers should also be regarded as the weapons of war they are.
If you have to stop the threat, don’t stop shooting until the threat is stopped.

Anything that can take a limb off with a single blow is worth emptying the mag into.

You empty the mag into the person wielding and attacking with it.
I beleive that machetes will become more and more comon as the weapon of choice, as we allow in more and more illegals who have been raised with them instead of guns, and more normal knives. They know that they instill fear in people. They know that will be considered to be less than a gun crime. They are quick. They are simple to make. They are quiet. Possession can reasonably be explained away.
Machetes, like swords, spears, etc., don’t have misfires, misfeeds, or run out of ammo. Best pull that trigger early and often.
