The news out of Broward County gets worse every time someone does any digging into the Parkland shooting.

The incomplete list of county fuck-ups so far is:

  • The School Resource Officer hid like a coward.
  • Other responding deputies violated policy and formed a perimeter rather than go in after the shooter.
  • The BSO blocked local police and paramedics from going into the school to rescue the wounded.
  • The BSO had dozens (at least 42 by last count) interactions with Cruz’s foster family but never followed through on any of the cases such that it would have made Cruz a prohibited person.
  • Cruz’s issues were covered up by the school’s Promise Program to keep him out of the “school to prison pipeline.”

Like the infomercials say “that’s not all.”

Parkland Shooter Asked for Help, but Was Denied Before Shooting

In Cruz’s junior year, after he had already begun exhibiting behavior so disturbing it led to guidance counselors wanting to have him committed, the teenager sat down with education specialists to discuss his options for further schooling. He was told he could transfer to Cross Creek, a school tailored for students with special needs; sue the Broward school district; or stay at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School without any special counseling. According to a review of that meeting featured in the new report, school officials left out one crucial fact: Cruz was still entitled to special assistance at Stoneman Douglas if he chose to stay.

Being unaware of this option, however, Cruz—whose developmental delays were flagged at age 3—was reportedly stripped of counseling services and left to fend for himself as a “regular student.”

Months later, when Cruz changed his mind and sought to transfer to Cross Creek, the school district “did not follow through,” according to the report. He dropped out on Feb. 8, 2017, due to failing grades, and three days later purchased an AR-15, the same one used a year later in what has now become one of the deadliest school shootings in the U.S.

Oops…

It’s the Sun Sentinel that has really done the most to uncover just how bad Broward handled Cruz for his entire life.

Here’s what Broward schools knew about Parkland shooter — details revealed by mistake

Nikolas Cruz was stripped of the therapeutic services disabled students need, leaving him to navigate his schooling as a regular student despite mounds of evidence that he wasn’t.

When he asked to return to a special education campus, school officials fumbled his request.

Here is how bad Broward is.  They tried to redact this information to cover their asses and did it so badly that the Sun Sentinel got everything and the attempted cover up made it look worse.

Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer ordered that the report be released publicly, but with nearly two-thirds of the content blacked out.

The school district said the alterations were needed to comply with the shooter’s privacy rights, but the method the district used to conceal the text failed. The blacked-out text became visible when pasted into another computer file.

That’s just pathetic.

The consultant found that the district largely followed the laws, providing special education to the shooter starting when he was 3 years old and had already been kicked out of day care. But “two specific instances were identified,” the report says, where school officials did not follow the requirements of Florida statute or federal laws governing students with disabilities.

Those instances:

— School officials misstated Cruz’s options when he was faced with being removed from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School his junior year, leading him to refuse special education services.

— When Cruz asked to return to the therapeutic environment of Cross Creek School for special education students, the district “did not follow through,” the report reveals.

In part because of the errors, Cruz had no school counseling or other special education services in the 14 months leading up to the shooting on Feb. 14, the report says.

The whole article shows that Cruz was a problem and a predator going all the way back to day care at three years old and how he ended up at MSD after a series of mistakes and attempts as bureaucratic ass covering.

But if you think this is where this story ends, you’re wrong.

School board asks judge to hold Sun Sentinel in contempt over school-shooter report

Now the school board is suing the Sun Sentinel for publishing information that they failed to redact like bumbling assholes.

The Broward County School Board on Monday asked a judge to hold the South Florida Sun Sentinel and two of its reporters in contempt of court over the publication of a report about the Parkland shooter’s years within the school system.

The School Board alleges the newspaper intentionally published information it knew a judge had ordered to be redacted.

Except the what the school board redacted wasn’t just Cruz’s private information but the evidence that the school humped the dog on their dealings with Cruz.

Furthermore,

“The problem is the School Board’s problem and not the Sun Sentinel’s,” Julin said. “The Sun Sentinel is entitled to publish the information that it lawfully obtained even if that information should have been redacted from the document that was released.

“It looks like the School Board just made a mistake and is trying to deal with its own mistake by asking that the Sun Sentinel be held in contempt,” he said. “But the School Board has absolutely no basis to make that request.”

To Recap:

The Broward County school system totally fucked their handling of Cruz from the age of three until he shot up MSD High.

The school board tries to cover this up but fucks that up.

The school board is now suing the newspaper that reported on their fuck ups for reporting on their fuck ups with information they fucked up trying to cover up.

That’s Broward County.

This is why CNN ran went ahead with their Town Hall as quickly as they did and turned it into a Maoist show trial of the NRA and Marco Rubio.

They had to set up the narrative right away that 17 dead students wasn’t the fault of the Broward County Sheriff and Broward County school board.

Had all this come out first, the push for gun control would have fizzled out before it got started.

  1. About your closing paragraph — no, I don’t think so. Just because it is obvious to all person with greater than room temperature IQ that “gun control” isn’t the point here, that wouldn’t keep the victim disarmers from using this case as an excuse to push their agenda.

  2. The truly frightening part is that this seems to be routine procedure when dealing with highly disturbed individuals. How many other time bombs are in the system waiting to go off?

  3. “The school board is now suing the newspaper that reported on their fuck ups for reporting on their fuck ups with information they fucked up trying to cover up.”

Stan Marsh: Dude, that’s pretty fucked up right there.

  4. J.Kb love your work man, top notch. However, for purposes of greater circulation among people who become offended by one word “Fuck”, could you consider substituting that word with one lower on the ‘offensive words scale’ as in “Screwed-Up”?

    1. D.D., one of my relatives is sensitive to and offended by foul language.

Out of respect for him, I have euphemized a few commonly used words to which many people take offense. These days, I often use “fornicate” and.”Shinola” instead of their more common versions.
