I think there is an added layer of irony that there is a huge overlap in the demographic of pro-abortion and pro-gun control.
This was part of the point I tried to make yesterday.
I am pro-choice because I am pro-gun. The Supreme Court declared a right to the people as interpreted from the Constitution, and I am not going to undermine that.
I’m not going to yank out the abortion block from my Jenga tower of rights because it could bring my gun block crashing down.
I understand what you’re saying, and I don’t claim to have all the answers. But if the Supreme Court ruled abortion could be extended up to let’s say the first 24 hours after birth, and that decision held, would we be ok with it just because it’s now considered a constitutionally protected right? Where does the line get drawn?
And while I get the Jenga block conundrum, what makes you think the left hasn’t already done something similar? The second amendment is already basically non-existent in some liberal metropolises. If anything, this abortion law is almost like a cultural yin to the left’s yang. There’s part of me that’s saying “Fuck ’em, let them lose their minds over this”.
Again, I’m not saying you’re wrong, I don’t have the answers. I’m just waxing philosophical here.
Just because the Supreme Court ruled on something doesn’t mean its true. “The right to privacy” isn’t in the Constitution. The right to keep and bear arms is. That’s the difference you are missing.
I will certainly want to undermine any “right” that says its okay to kill innocent babies. I’m pro-life because I’m pro-gun. I believe in protecting innocent life, especially when they can’t protect themselves.
