URGENT: Florida Open Carry survives attack and goes for Third Reading

Just finished watching the House proceedings live and all the bad amendments were defeated soundly. Rep Matt Gaetz stood like an Spartan and took on all comers, some like Rep. Irving Slosberg were verbally bitch-slapped with such finesse I am feeling the impacts. Gaetz had the stats, the answers and the presence of mind not to fall for little traps, truly an amazing job this man performed.

The results are posted in the House Bill 163 page, but here is a quick summary:

  • No OC 500 feet that sell alcohol: DEFEATED.
  • No OC 500 feet of a movie theater: DEFEATED.
  • No OC 500 feet of a religious institution: DEFEATED
  • No OC 500 feet of a polling place: DEFEATED
  • No OC within school safety zone. DEFEATED
  • OC Must carry on an empty chamber and hammer cannot be cocked (WTF?): DEFEATED
  • Legislators allowed to carry concealed during sessions. (No idea how this got into OC discussions): APPROVED
  • Temp Suspension of CWP if OC is found intoxicated: APPROVED
  • Permanent resident alien via K1 Visa (Fiancee) not allowed to have a CWP: APPROVED
  • No OC allowed if you are an illegal alien: APPROVED (No, seriously, this was an item)
  • Permanent resident alien via Diversity Visa not allowed to have a CWP: with a substitute No illegals can get a CWP: APPROVED
  • No CWP if you have renounced your citizenship. APPROVED (I guess, it had a substitute but lost track.. I had to go to the bathroom bad.)
  • Amendment: Banning of large capacity Magazines. Substitute limiting to 15 rounds. FAILED (and quite badly)

Representatives Moskowitz and Geller (full-fledged Antis) hopped into the Gun Control Moral Pony and tried to “shame” people into voting for their nasty amendments. They initially sounded like Shannon Watts and ended up mimicking Ladd Everitt’s madness when they saw how bad they were being b beaten. Their mistake was to confront a well-prepared individual with Gun Control memes and slogans. You can only tug hearts so far before the owners get pissed and figure out you are an idiot.

Quote of the session:
“No right to shout ‘THEATER!’ in a fired crowd”  (I missed who said that, I was not looking at the time, but… DAMN!)

So, it was a good day and I feel optimistic about Open Carry having a damned good chance of passing and becoming law. We need to put pressure on De La Portilla and the Florida GOP with the gentle reminder that actions have consequences.

Do me a favor, write a note of thanks to Rep. Gaetz. You can do that from his website. Hell, he deserves at least a six-pack and some BBQ too!

OK, now I am gonna fetch me some supper.

Equality under the gun

I have a young son, so my home life is a DC and Marvel universe crossover.  A lot of what is on the TV in the evening is superhero cartoons.

Being a gun guy, this got me thinking.  The old expression is God created all men, Sam Colt made them equal.  I believe this.  So what would gun ownership and CCW be like in an America where you are as likely to be the victim of a home invasion by a couple of punks as being the victim of a planetary invasion by a race of ancient, super powerful, inter-dimensional aliens?  Or when the guy who tries to mug you at the ATM isn’t just high on drugs, but can also turn his skin into a nearly impenetrable armor?

The basic moral justification for CCW is that no person should have to find themselves at the mercy of a bad guy.  What happens when the bad guy can jump tall buildings in a single bound?  A gun is a tool by which you can defend yourself.  In a super hero universe, I believe that people should have access to weapons that have the ability to take out superheroes.  I for one would be carrying, at the very minimum, something high capacity loaded with Hornady’s Mutant Defense Vibranium tipped, Krypton core ammo.

The SHOT Show would be a bazaar of awesomeness.  Every company would be trying to hock their latest and greatest in anti-super-villain ordinance.  I’d want to see Hickock45‘s review of the new Sig Sauer matter destabilizer.  If the bad guy can out run a bullet, you have to level up to directed energy weapons.  It’s just basic physics.

Also, if you can defend yourself from rape and bodily harm with lethal force, what about unwanted psychic probing?  Could you shoot a telepath for trying to read your mind?  I’d support that.  Nothing is more personal than your inner thoughts, and I don’t want someone in my head without permission.

I know that there are some politicians who say that it should be illegal for civilians to possess weapons of that power.  But would it really matter if I can buy a death ray if there are people running around born with the ability to destroy buildings with a glance or summon tornadoes on demand?

Maybe I’m over thinking it a little.  I don’t know.  What are your opinions on gun ownership in a superhero universe?

Did you know the NRA has more money than Michael Bloomberg?

If you go by the comments of the CSGV Laddites on Gov McAulifee striking a deal with the Republican legislators, that seems to be the case. In the collage (from three different posts) you will also see that there are some serious constitutional lawyers in the bunch and the Pro-Bernie & Pro Hillary sides doing some stomping for their candidates.

Preparation H must be making a fortune this week.

CSGV McAuliffe Money

OK, but this is the Cult Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence, right? We know they are kinda loony and so disconnected that they sound like they are hitting the bong all day long. Surely Everytown and its followers, being part and parcel of the Bloomberg ATM that paid for McAuliffe’s campaign know better, right?

Everytown Virginia McAuliffe

I really did not know Wayne LaPierre ran for public office. News to me.

There you have it folks! Your $30 a year bought Terry Mac and the soul of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

28th Amendment

I am sick of Iowa.  I am sick of the caucuses.  It is February 1st, and I am sick of the 2016 election cycle.

I propose a new system: Presidential Hunger Games.   All the candidates, Republican and Democrat, will be dropped into an arena to face nature and each other in fight to the death for the Oval Office.  Deployment to the arena will occur on the first Tuesday in November, and the last one alive wins.  If there is more than one candidate alive by the first Tuesday in January, a general election will be held on the following Tuesday to pick the winner.

Campaign contributions to candidates will be in the form of supplies of food, water, survival equipment, and melee weapons.  You can donate whatever you want, but a candidate can only eat and carry so much, rendering huge donations by a moneyed elite and big business pretty much obsolete.

I know, I know, this isn’t very democratic.  I think the last few elections, however, have shown that Americans, by and large, can’t handle democracy.  Being a responsible and educated electorate is just too difficult in an era where know-nothing reality TV stars are the primary source that many American’s get their political opinions from.

Like H.L. Mencken said: “When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand.  So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost… All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

If we work hard, we might be able to get this Amendment ratified in time to affect the 2016 election.  Then I propose we make this year’s arena in somewhere in the middle of the Serengeti.  Nothing would make me happier than to watch Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump get turned into Hyena shit on national television.

Or maybe I’m just feeling bitter.

Florida Pro Gun Bills Under Attack. We need to pressure the Legislature.

Just caught the warning from Florida Carry about a flurry of amendments that the Antis are trying to attach to the bills. I went to the Florida site and so far found:

  • Magazine capacity limits (and kinda schizoid as they ask for both 10 and 15 rounds)
  • Back to the odious “For Law Enforcement Only” on magazines with too many boolits.
  • Makes it illegal the Open Carry of a high-capacity ammunition feeding device attached to a firearm.
  • Makes certain types of US Residents ineligible to get a CWP without rhyme or reason.
  • Makes US Residents ineligible to get a CWP (yes, that too)
  • Creates new Gun Free Zones at Churches and assorted religious buildings.
  • Creates new Gun Free Zones at Hospitals.
  • Prohibited to Open Carry within 500 feet of any place where alcohol is served.
  • Prohibited to Open Carry within 500 feet of Movie Theaters.
  • Prohibited to Open Carry within 500 feet of Religious Building.
  • Prohibited to Open Carry within 500 feet of a polling place.
  • Prohibited to Open Carry within 500 feet of a school as defined by Statute  810.0975.
  • Deny CWP to anybody in the magical No-Fly-List.
  • Deny CWP to anybody in the magical Terror-Watch list.

There might be more, but I am tired of reading the damn long list as different Reps introduced similar amendments. But I think it we do not need more examples.

To contact the Florida representatives is easy, it only takes three copy & pastes. Go to this announcement by Florida carry and follow the instructions. It will take you about 5 minutes, maybe six.

The Opposition is still pissed off with Virginia and they are looking for satisfaction somewhere else. Let’s send them to buy a box of tissue and a bottle of lotion, but they don’t get to sabotage gun good laws because their bought politician up north did not stay bought.
