Florida Gun Rights 2020: CS/SB 728 – Threats – Advances – Acceptable?

General Bill by Infrastructure and Security and Stargel (CO-SPONSORS) Hutson
Threats: Prohibiting threats to use, including future threats to use, a firearm or weapon with specified intent; prohibiting a person from threatening the future throwing, projecting, placing, or discharging of any destructive device with specified intent; prohibiting a person from making a false report with specified intent concerning the current or future placing or planting of any bomb, dynamite, other deadly explosive, or weapon of mass destruction or concerning the current or future use of a firearm in a violent manner against a person or persons, etc.

Read the Updated Text of the Bill.

The initial text did not have an exception for defensive use of a firearm and it was added later.

What worries me is what will a Prosecutor or Detective interpret as reasonable. Sometimes our humor does not translate well with others and specially in the webs and somebody with a political axe to grind can use this law to shut down a politically troublesome element.

I also understand that one of the tools of terrorism and other assorted assholes is the threat of a mass shooting to create panic in the populace. I believe this bill if approved will generate one of those “Defendant Zero” cases that Jon Gutmacher talks about.

I may start to side against this bill in the future.

Florida Gun Rights 2020: CS/HB 183 (2020) — Prohibited Places for Weapons and Firearms – Neutral Bill Advancing.

CS/HB 183 –  Prohibited Places for Weapons and Firearms

General Bill by Criminal Justice Subcommittee and Ponder (CO-SPONSORS) Donalds; Hill; Stone
Prohibited Places for Weapons and Firearms: Authorizes elected member of specified governing body who holds license to carry concealed weapons or firearms to carry concealed weapon or firearm to meeting of governing body of which he or she is member, unless otherwise prohibited by law.

Read the Updated Text of the Bill.

The only thing they did was to add a prohibition to carry just like normal CWP holders do. IANAL, but the bill now does not make sense. I might be missing something a non-prohibited location or two.

And I really do not care one way or the other.

Florida Gun Rights 2020: CS/HB 1437 – Fixing Church Carry – Good Bill Advancing.

CS/HB 1437 –  Safety of Religious Institutions

General Bill by Criminal Justice Subcommittee and Williamson (CO-SPONSORS) Andrade; Byrd; Donalds; Roach; Sabatini; Stone; Yarborough
Safety of Religious Institutions: Authorizes church, synagogue, or other religious institution to allow concealed weapons or concealed firearms licensee to carry firearm on its property for certain purposes; specifies property owner who allows church, synagogue, or other religious institution to use his or her property may prohibit church, synagogue, or other religious institution from authorizing person to carry firearm on property.

Read the New Text of the Bill.

The new version adds Property Owner’s rights to the bill and it is something to be respected IMHO.

It left the Criminal Justice Subcommittee with a strong vote (Total Yeas: 12, Total Nays: 2,  Total Missed: 1) that I think includes at least one Democrat.

It is now in the Education Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

You know the drill, send emails and make calls.

Disruption of the NYC Subway System planned for tomorrow.

At least is what they say:

Let me see if I get this right: You are planning to invade th subway. You are planning on cramming yourselves up in a restricted areas with very few exits (which means few ways to escape) and easy to block and destroy public property.

Now, this would be an easy “kill” if the NYPD had a ballsy chief and a normal Mayor. But I believe DeBlasio is gonna pull a Baltimore and “give them space” to break stuff.

Me? I would let them get down there, close selected entrances and stations while leaving others open under tight PD control, kill all the electricity down there and let them figure out what to do next.

I think there was something about rats trapped in overcrowded conditions….

The day the wife lost it.

My dearly missus is a beautiful person both image and spirit. Good Christian woman basically put in this earth to pray for the deeds her husband pulls. One of the things we both enjoy is watching TV/Movies: sometimes we pause, talk and discuss the show, sometimes we just watch and enjoy.

Obviously we have common shows and themes we like and others we don’t.  She is very forgiving about some of the liberties TV people take and can stand a show even when they are past due, ie: I stopped watching Criminal Minds 3 years ago and she is all sad this year is its last.

And then comes 9-1-1: Lone Star.  I recorded the first three episodes for her to watch even though I had made my points about what I did not like the series. I sat with her through episode one and then came episode 2 and the Instant Mercury Poisoning case. The scene where TG Hound discovers there is something wrong with the Focaccia sandwiches, opens one and there to see is about half a cup of liquid mercury and my wife just lost it.

Mercury is heavy, very heavy. Our generation was not as protected and we got to play with when we should not, so we know. My wife, my cute petite wife let loose a rant of very Rated-G imprecations and questioned the sanity of the writers. That much mercury would have added about a pound to the sandwich and then comes the little detail that the liquid would spill by the normal manipulation of the meal. And of course, whatever mercury remained in the sandwich, you would actually feel it in your mouth.

Dearly Beloved demanded that I stopped the show, delete all that was recorded and removed it from the DVR schedule. I said nothing but complied. When even my wife, one who goes to extremes to suspend disbelief so she can watch TV shows (and the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies) loses her mind, you have fucked up as a TV writer.

And just to give you a bigger clue how bad it is, in this house we religiously watch Below Deck.

PS: I watch it too, but I do it because I am trying to figure who would be the crew member that I would toss overboard while holding a battery around their necks.

Just when you think Newspapers learned their lesson

Sutter County Sheriff’s Office
January 28 ·
A message from Sheriff Barnes:

The Sheriff’s Office recently received a public records request regarding CCW applicant information. The attached letter was authored yesterday and is being mailed to our CCW holders. I am posting this on social media to be transparent and inform the public regarding this issue. If you are a CCW holder, you will be receiving a copy of this letter in the coming weeks.

When the enemy is trying to Dox you, you Dox them right back. Publishing the names and addresses obtained from Public Records of the journalists trying put law-abiding people in danger to  is a tactic Gun Owners have used before with total success. The prospect of suddenly having people know where you live, specially in this day and age of Google Maps with Street View is a sobering thought and a great way for journalists to re-assess the need for the initial request.

So basically find out who is writing the story, who are his/her editors and get to find their info online. They do not care if a woman obtained a permit for a gun because a crazed ex is after her to kill her? Or some gang bangers now know where to go to get guns for “free”? Then we do not give a hoot about your address being legally publicized in the many blogs and social media accounts everywhere.

Fair is fair.
