The NY Stairwell Double Murder: Yes, it is murder.

I keep reading some comments about the double murder I posted about yesterday concerning the first killing might be a grey area. IANAL Warning: To me it is not grey at all but deep black legally and it is murder/manslaughter.

Here is the video again.

And now three frames that I deem important.

On frame one, the scissors are present, but shooter is not backing down out of not being afraid or because he is stupid, take you pick.

Frame two shows the victim one, who was initially pulled away by the female, beginning to turn away after the shooter presented the gun.

Frame three shows the first shot after the victim had moved farther away (3 steps) and was not presenting an immediate danger of death or grave bodily harm.

And that is a murder.

The rest of the shooter’s actions are just aggravating factors that will only help to add decades to his sentence.

And if you are saying “Shit! That is a small window to make a decision!” and you are right, and you better take that in consideration before you allow yourself into any foolish legal fantasy about self-defense. And that is also why we have keep beating in this blog about Avoidance, Deterrence and De-escalation.

Once again.

Book Recommendation: Days of Wrath by William Forstchen.

“This is a book I did not want to write.”

William Forstchen wrote the excellent book series that began with One Second After which if you have not read, you need to because it is a good writing about having to rebuild society after the slate is, if not clean at least it gets a good swipe of a dirty rag. The words above is how he began this book and by the time you finish it, you will understand why.

Days of Wrath will make you mad at several levels, especially because it is all too plausible and simply tells you there will be no happy endings, just unabashed horror. And it will scare you because the model is so simple and achievable, you wonder how come it has not been implemented to which I believe the answer is has not been implemented yet, but it is probably coming and worse.

At 171 pages, it is supposed to be a quick read. It was not for me as I had to put it down several times to process what I read.

If you want great dashing heroes and happy endings, this is not it.

If you feel you must be ready, then please read it and find out a speck of what we will have to go through.
