Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

The insanity of the Left in San Francisco: In order to preserve non-existent housing for the poor, we must stop new housing from development.

Even if you tried, you could not come up with such idiotic process.  Even the spirit of Franz Kafka would throw the towel rather than deal with such amount of bizarre political surrealism.

To summarize: The developer wants to build 74 unit building on his property which at least 7 of those units will be reserved by law for low-income families. So, 7 families that could have good and affordable housing will not have it because the crazy people of the Mission district and the city of San Francisco government oppose that some white guy would actually make a profit on property that belongs to him and would even generate taxes for the city.

I swear the mother of all tsunamis cannot clean that city.

Andrew Branca: Claim Self-Defense While Committing A Crime? Sure

I often run across the misconception that in order to claim self-defense it’s a necessary condition that the defender be “white as the driven snow,” and certainly not be engaged in any unlawful activity of his own at the time.

While being utterly innocent of any misconduct of any kind is certainly helpful in a general way in any kind of criminal defense, it’s explicitly not a required condition of a claim of self-defense.

Naturally, if the crime being committed violates one of the required conditions of self-defense, then you lose self-defense on that basis. So if the crime you are committing is one involving the threat of unlawful force against another person, as one example, you’ve lost the required element of innocence and you’ve lost self-defense on that basis.

Claim Self-Defense While Committing A Crime? Sure

OK, I am going to admit here and now I was one of those who believed you had to be angelic to claim self-defense. Drug dealer engaged in business gets robbed at gunpoint and defends himself? I would have expected he would get a substantial time in prison.

Go read the rest of the article as it is short and sweet.

And I will continue te be angelic in my dealings with fellow human beings.

Ft Lauderdale: Gas station Murder.

Fort Lauderdale, FL – A shooting at a Fort Lauderdale gas station on Christmas Day left one person dead and police looking for the killer. The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at Westar gas station, 701 Broward Blvd. Police confirmed late Tuesday that an unidentified “adult victim” was found wounded and taken to a nearby hospital. The victim died a short time later, police said. No information on a suspect or motive was available Tuesday night.

This is a video with a serious predator on it. Nobody knows why the shooting happened, but I can’t shake off the feeling that the second card blew the horn when it pulled in, the killer took offense and his respect needed to be avenged or some stupid crap like that.

I think it was legendary lawman Delf “Jelly” Bryce who is quoted to  have said “Greet everybody you meet with a smile on your face and murder in your heart.” It sadly appears his advice still applies in the 21st century.

“A chicken in every pot…” Venezuelan Socialism strikes again.

“I want there to be no peasant in my realm so poor that he will not have a chicken in his pot every Sunday,”
Henry IV of France

Pernil is roasted pork (leg or shoulder) and  is the traditional main dish for Hispanics as much as turkey is for Thanksgivings.  In Venezuela, the socialist revolution promised some years ago that Venezuelan families would get one Pernil for Christmas for free because they care.  No matter how poor, you would get to have some piggy protein to celebrate the birth of Jesus (Christ that is, not the weird neighbor that is always drunk and making passes at girls.)

Now, last year the government announced that distribution of Pernil was sabotaged by the Empire (US) and the Capitalist cabal. What was the sabotage? The company selling the pork refused to ship any to Venezuela for one reason: They were still owed money from the shipment sent the year before last. Apparently demanding payment for goods produced and delivered is sabotaging the Chavista Revolution, go figure.

This year, President Maduro assured the people that they would have their perniles for Christmas, but not only the majority of people did not get it, the few that managed to land some of the  scare swine are complaining it is spoiled and inedible.

Other than a few half-assed protests of very few people trying to block roads, there has been little out of the “people.”

My take is people are resigned and know they won’t get even a can of deviled ham. I fear Venezuelans are entering the starvation lethargy brought by weakness.

Coming soon to a CNN Special Report: Somalia en Español.
(PS: They will blame Trump too.)

Non Gun Christmas Gift from the Missus.

Back when there was this thing called film,  I used to run around with Pentax cameras. I liked them because they were slimmer than the competition and delivered great pictures. My best combo was a Pentax MX with a Vivitar macro Zoom 70-210 which unfortunately got stolen along with 6 rolls from my trip to NYC back when it was a not-so-safe place.

In the digital ear, I ran around pocket cams and did the job good enough, but I wanted to get back to Pentax. I still have some of the old lenses (Including one that needs a bayonet adapter) but the prices of digital cam bodies run from Glock 20 for the not so pro models, to Korth revolvers for the pro stuff. With all the expenses we had this year with mom’s health stuff and assorted every day shit, Pentax was relegated to the  nice dream folder.

I did some research on the Kodak’s PixPro series because they seem better than just a pocket camera and have a lot of features for an inexpensive camera, specially in the manual mode. I had one model on my Wish List and my dearly beloved surprised me with PixPro AZ251.

I don’t think I have taken 20 pics yet and all but a couple in Auto, but I am surprised at what it does.

Zoom test. See the house with the four big palm trees across the lake?

Testing the Macro function in low light.

It caught raindrops in Auto.

For a camera running a price equivalent of a Hi-Point, I am not complaining.  And once I get to know the manual settings, I am sure I will be able to get much better pictures.
