There is an urban legend about a guy that replaced a fuse in his pick up with a .22LR and gave himself a vasectomy. True? Maybe. Funny? Definitely.
I have popped a few .22s myself, and the story is impossible as told. With nothing to contain the pressure the cartridge will be nothing more than a firecracker. It is possible that the case could damage your eye, or give you a light bruise on skin, but it will be largely harmless. (since the case is lighter than the bullet the case will get the velocity, if only by a bit).

Back when cars had glass fuses, I used the foil off of my cigarette pack more than once to get things going. You can’t do that with the new mini-fuses. That’s why I always keep a short piece of wire handy.
