One legislator in Florida is upset because the Florida’s Senate Rules Committee approved the bill that allowed volunteer teachers to be armed. But it is what Sen. Oscar Branynon (D-Miami Gardens) said that explains a lot of what is wrong with our youth today. From the NY Post:

The fact that teachers could soon be allowed to carry firearms inside schools wasn’t sitting well with gun-control supporters, either. “It bothers me to think as a father of two young boys to tell them to not be aggressive to your teacher,” said Sen. Oscar Branynon (D-Miami Gardens).

So what kind of father is the Senator?  Are his boys are aggressive little shits  to the teacher with his blessing? And this is one of the guys trying to come u with legislation to screw with my rights?
When and why it became OK to be aggressive to teachers? The whooping I would have gotten from my parents for just being disrespectful would have been against the Geneva convention. Getting downright aggressive? Hospital time, no doubt.

And yet, his fear shows the power of pacification that Concealed Carry has and the proof that  Heinlein was right.  All of  5 foot Miss Johnson is not physically threatening to young thug Pepito Jones, but if she has the capability to introduce him to the principles of terminal ballistics the hard way, he will re assesses his attitude and even if he ain’t polite, he won’t be aggressive.

  1. My wife wants to be able to carry at work, but she’s not allowed to. And yes, she is a teacher and we have kids in the district. One of them actually goes to the same school where she teaches. She however is no wilting flower like the Florida senator. The concealed carry clothing ‘problem’ isn’t actually a problem despite what Tom Fuentes might think.

  2. Something I don’t see anyone pointing out on the national level RE: arming teachers is that there are only two things preventing it (and only one of those things in some states)

The GFSZ act allows individual states to permit concealed carry within the GFSZ for those individuals possessing a carry permit *issued by the state in which the school is located*. Some states have exercised this option, others have not. That’s one hurdle.

The second hurdle is as Joe Miller just described…workplace rules not allowing it. That seems to be a local (school board) issue…and if the unions (Hawk-PTUI!!!) stand in your way, then ask them in open (school board/city council) session why they don’t care about the safety of their members or their children, and prefer them to be disarmed and helpless.

Alternatively one could push for state level legislation that prohibits employee disarmament for public employees.
