Last year the people of Oregon, by a bare majority, voted in a truck load of infringements. These included permit to purchase, gun registries, magazine bans, and many other Bruen FU’s.

This was Measure 114. The measure was so bad that even the political class didn’t want it to go into effect immediately.

It did.

Having gone into effect, it was challenged. Because it was a direct infringement case the suit was filed in the federal district court of Oregon. In one of the first cases, Oregon Firearms Federation, Inc. v. Brown (2:22-cv-01815) the district court first denied the motion for a TRO and for a Preliminary Injunction.

The plaintiffs(Good Guys) appealed the District Court’s decision to the Ninth Circus court. This appeal was withdrawn by the plaintiffs.

A number of other cases where joined with this as the lead case.

While all of this was going on in the district court, another case was filed in state court. That state court found FOR the plaintiffs(good guys) and enjoined part of Measure 114. The state appealed to the state supreme court which declined to hear the case.

What this means is that all or part of Measure 114 is enjoined from being enforced. It is stopped.

Of course the state can’t have a lose on any infringement.

They decided to “moot” the cases currently in district court. There are things that the legislature can do which will allow them to claim that the dispute before the court no longer exists.

If the cases reference Measure 114 then if it becomes a bill/regulation it might moot. If some of the wording changes, it might moot the cases.

The state calls it “forum shopping” if you are filing the case in your home county. The state isn’t “forum” shopping when they pick the state court where challenges must be filed.

There are a number of things going on in these cases, hopefully we’ll see some good progress soon.

A last-minute amendment that would restrict future legal challenges only to Marion County Circuit Court was added to the Senate Judiciary bill that largely mimics the voter-approved gun control Measure 114.

YouTuber making prank video shot at Dulles Town Center

The victim critically injured inside Dulles Town Center mall said he was recording a prank video for his YouTube page when he was shot.

Tanner Cook, 21, remained in the intensive care unit the next day with his mother by his side after one bullet pierced through his stomach and liver.

Officials arrested and charged Colie on Sunday with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm within a building.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said the shooting was a result of a fight that broke out in the food court between both men. The gunfire caused panic among mallgoers.

“I was playing a prank and a simple practical joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well,” said Tanner Cook.

Despite what led up to the gunfire, Tanner Cook’s father said the shooting was shocking and unnecessary.

“They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun,” added Jeramy Cook. “There was a phone that was around him and they were interviewing or talking to him, and he didn’t like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.”

Despite his injuries, Tanner Cook said it will not stop him from creating videos.

So he pulled a prank on the wrong guy and got a stomach and liver full of bullet for it.

I’m not saying it was a good shoot, it wasn’t, but fucking around with strangers in a public place is a pretty fucking stupid thing to do.

The fact that he’s gonna go back at it is proof positive that he’s a moron.

I guess YouTube fame and money is more important than not getting shot.

A 9-year-old girl didn’t want her goat slaughtered. California fair officials sent deputies after it

Every day for three months, Jessica Long’s young daughter walked and fed her goat, bonding with the brown and white floppy-eared animal named Cedar. But when it was time for Cedar to be sold and slaughtered at the Shasta District Fair last year, the 9-year-old just couldn’t go through with it.

“My daughter sobbed in her pen with her goat,” Long wrote to the Shasta County fair’s manager on June 27, 2022. “The barn was mostly empty and at the last minute I decided to break the rules and take the goat that night and deal with the consequences later.”

Long purchased the goat for her daughter to enter into the 4-H program with the Shasta District Fair. Children are taught how to care for farm animals. The animals are then entered in an auction to be sold and then slaughtered for meat in hopes of teaching children about the work and care needed to raise livestock and provide food, as farmers and ranchers do.

In her letter, Long pleaded for the fair to make an exception and let her and her daughter take Cedar back. Aware that Cedar had already been sold in auction, she also offered to “pay you back for the goat and any other expenses I caused,” according to the letter obtained by The Times.

Instead, officials reached out to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Armed with a search warrant, detectives drove more than 500 miles across Northern California in search of the goat.

Echoing language used when law enforcement search a home for drugs, the warrant allowed deputies to “utilize breaching equipment to force open doorway(s), entry doors, exit doors, and locked containers” and to search all rooms, garages and “storage rooms, and outbuildings of any kind large enough to accommodate a small goat.”

“It was never about money,” said Vanessa Shakib, an attorney for Advancing Law for Animals who represents Long. “County officials were clear that they wanted to teach this little girl a lesson.”

Attorneys argue the county used the warrant “for the sole purpose of circumventing the civil process” and killed the goat as a way to end Long and her daughter’s fight for Cedar.

“The government was seeking to silence our clients viewpoint,” Shakib said. “Our lawsuit seeks to hold public officials accountable for violating the law and enacting a personal vendetta against a little girl simply because she loved her goat.”

Holy fucking shit.

This was a 9-year-old little girl who loved her pet goat and didn’t want it slaughtered.

I understand that.  I have a little girl that can’t reconcile the fact that the chicken nuggets she eats were chickens and the hamburgers were cows.

They offered to buy back the goat but the farm sent the fucking sheriff’s office after her to raid her parents home.

There are so many ways that this could have been handled differently, but a battering ram and a SWAT team was how it was resolved.

I hope that little girl learned a lesson.
