Yeah, we remember.

The Branch Davidians were a bunch of crazies lead by an asshole.  I’m not defending them.

But the ATF decided to flex its muscles live on CNN to make Bill Clinton and Janet Reno look like tough and abused every rule crafted for the war on drugs to raid the Davidians’ compound like they were invading Iraq.

The result was 76 people including 25 children being burned to death as the news cameras rolled.

The Waco seige and Ruby Ridge the year before caused the Oklahoma City bombing and the rise of the anti-government militia movement of the 90s.

So with Biden threatening to take our guns, an ideological purge of the military, and armed troops and barbed wire in DC, maybe the ATF can just quietly let this one not be remembered.

Because right now it really looks like military, US government is gearing up to go Waco on the rest of America.

  1. “Crazies led by an asshole”? You mean they had odd religious beliefs and put those into practice? How does that justify not defending their civil rights against totalitarian attack?

    1. @pkoning: I’m pretty sure that J fully supported their Rights, even if he disagreed with their practices. Many Jews had trouble with a human passing themselves off as a god or G-d.

    2. What the ATF did to them was absolutely wrong. They did not deserve to have their rights violated like that.

Let’s not forget that David Koresh did commit fraud. There were rumors of abuse and sexual abuse of children and violence against members who wanted to leave the sect.

They may have started as a branch of the 7th Day Adventists but they really turned into a cult and David Koresh did call himself the “Lamb of God.”

Koresh should have been nabbed by the Fed on one his personal trips into town to buy supplies. They had plenty to time to take him alone without sieging his compound.

But don’t whitewash Koresh. He might not have been he terrorist mastermind that the ATF said he was, but he also wasn’t a friendly Christian youth minister either.

      1. J, maybe so. Or maybe not. Given that we’re dealing with FBI criminals, there isn’t really any reason to believe anything they said about the Davidians.

Rumors of abuse may be accurate, or they may be a pretense invented by the bad guys to justify their murderous activities.

  2. The supposed reason for the search was that the Branch Davidians were buying deactivated WWII pineapple grenades and reactivating them.

In actuality, they were buying them, putting the spoon back on with a pull pin and a tag reading “#1′ and a sign “Customer Service, take a number”

    Standard freaking joke.

The ATF claimed that they were filling the bodies with explosives (what explosives from where? Who was supplying the explosives? Who was making them?) and then planning to set them off with shotgun primers. I.e. Pull the pin, let the spoon go and the thing goes of instantly.

Now, here is the kicker, they could have actually done this if they had filed the paper work and paid $200 per grenade. In other words, the ATF and FBI killed a shit load of people, killed them with fire and poison gas for failing to pay a $200 tax.

Randy Weaver’s dog, song and wife were killed because he failed to pay a $5 tax and fill out some paper work. The “sawed off shotgun” was not a SBS, it was an “All other weapons”. The barrel was long enough, but somewhere between the time it left Randy’s hands and the time the ATF presented it as evidence the stock had 3/8 of an inch of wood removed which made its over all length to short to be a shot gun and moving it into the category of “All other Weapons”

The ATF can go sit and spin on this “remembrance” for sending their people to die and then killing civilians in revenge.
