Be still my beating heart. OC In Florida a reality?

Update….

According to the Palm Beach Post, Open Carry and two other laws are on the way to Governor Scott’s desk to be signed.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!

Hat Tip to 2ARights4All.com

Watered down version passed in the Senate. Amendment filed by RINO Senator Bogdanoff (Broward & Palm Beach). Gigantic lack of Spine detected in Tallahasse.

UPDATE: Bill headed to the House. Can it be fixed there?

CSGV: Seriously?

Latest CSGV oracle is a report from the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. It starts by saying:

This article summarizes the scientific literature on the health risks and benefits of having a gun in the home for the gun owner and his/her family. For most contemporary Americans, scientific studies indicate that the health risk of a gun in the home is greater than the benefit.

So the first category is Accidental Deaths by guns and it brings us this shocking revelation:

Accidents
According to death certificate data, from 2003 to 2007, more than 680 Americans per year were killed unintentionally with firearms.

I did a quick search on accidental deaths and I find out that in 2007 over 21,000 people died by accidental falls. That is almost forty times the amount of accidental deaths by firearms. Then we have accidental poisoning deaths at 40,000 or almost sixty times more than accidental gun deaths.

Maybe Brady and CSGV should be renamed The Brady Center to Combat Trips and Falls and the Coaltion to Stop Drano and actually do something about people getting killed by these awful accidents. But then we wouldn’t have so much fun at their cost.

UPDATE: Corrected to the proper ratios.

Not making it to the NRA convention this year.

Work, extraneous expenses  and other pre-planned trips will get in the way of budget.  But in celebration, I will take my lovely bride Saturday to Primanti Bros. on Sunrise wearing full NRA & shooting regalia.

I was wondering if the NRA had selected a location for the 2013 convention.  We will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Florida’s Concealed Weapon’s Permit Law coming into effect and getting the ball rolling all over the place.  The Ft Lauderdale Convention Center should be big enough and right on the beach with a boatload of hotels within walking distance. Guns & Fun Under the Sun? Win!

Yeah… I know… Orlando would get it. At least it is only 4 hours away.

To all the bloggers going to the meet: Have fun and have a soda (pop) on me.

….and that is why I like Justified.

About to sit down and watch the episode before the season finale of Justified. I define it as old school sheriff western with heavy doses of Redneck Noir Film.  Great acting, great script and darn good shooting. This series will be bought in Box Set for the collection.

Best line of the season: “You’re like the hillbilly whisperer. I’m gonna put you on Oprah.”

Another great thing about the series is that when a somebody asks me about why I am in such awe and fear of my wife, now I just tell them to go watch ‘Justified’.

Kitty has serious back up.

Updated to reflect that I watched not the season finale but the one before.

Blind Faith and Ballistic Realities.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence and some of the Violence Political Policy Center Facebook Pages and Tweets and I get to read stuff like this:

We sacrifice all of our grace when we replace our faith with firearms.

The bravest people in America are not armed…

The bravest people don’t need guns to fight for what they believe in.

Late last night I realized what they reminded me off. Many a moon ago I read about Congo’s Simba Rebellion in the 60s and one of the things that stuck with me ever since was that Witch Doctors would do some magic ritual on the Simba Rebels and declare them “bulletproof.” Of course, ballistic reality proved the “treatment” all but useless.

CSGV: Math is not their forte.

Another capture from the Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence Facebook Page.

First, let’s clear one item: If you commit a crime with a gun, the information about your CCW becomes public since it is part of the police investigation. Plus, the fact that the media mentions it belies CSGV’s statement that those records are somehow sealed by evil minions of the NRA.

CSGV’s definition of MURDER EVIL AND DISGUSTING pretty much covers any person with a CCW that has been arrested for killing somebody but not necessarily tried and convicted. They already had some embarrassing corrections to make when a jury found shootings justified self-defense cases. Murders by criminals are not interesting to CSGV, Japete or their affiliates, they are OK in their book.

Now to the math: 297 murders in four years come out to 74.5 murders a year, but let’s round it out to 75 for clarity’s sake. The number of murders for the last four years was 65, 642 or an average of 16,410,5. Again for clarity’s sake we will use 16,410 as our number.

So, out of an average of 16,410 murders a year, and average of 74 are committed by CCW individuals which gives us a grand total of 0.45% of the murders. That is less than half than one percent which is the number we have always acknowledged since we are realists and know some bad people will always sneak regulations or regular people will do stupid and deadly stuff.

So basically I will like to express my gratitude to  the Coalition to Stop Gun Rights Violence for confirming we have been telling the truth all along even if that was not their intention.
