NSFW (Violence): Those damned Lefties. (A probable failure of Ego & Mindset.)

Video shows the entrance of a local night establishment in Venezuela. They guy in white (Mr. White) is armed security for the location. You will see a guy in blue (Mr. Blue) coming out in a second…. and the shit hits the fan. We will forgo the why plus whatnots and concentrate only on the mechanics of the incident. Please start video at 1:25 or whereabouts.

Mr. Blue comes out of the locale pretending everything is peachy fine then turns and draws his weapon.
Apparently Mr. White (who is a leftie) is a firm believer that having the gun in hand is the fastest way to win a draw and it seems he had the weapon hidden on a shoulder bag. Surprise for Mr. Blue.
Mr. Blue was not expecting the feel of steel in his chest. More than likely his synapses are working overtime trying to come up with a new answer to the dilemma he has never faced. This was not in the repertoire of pre-programmed answers & actions. Mr. White thus manages to displace Mr. Blue’s gun away from his body.
Mr. Blue is now in a very unsustainable situation. His weapon is controlled and Mr. White’s gun is firmly placed in his neck. Is that a glass in Mr. Blue’s right hand?
Mr. Blue decides to counterattack or at least he initiates some bonehead movement for whatever stupid reason. He still has a threatening gun against his neck.
And Mr. White reacts. Crick in the neck it is not.
Mr. Blue assumes forced and permanent horizontality.
Now let’s take a trip on the road of assumption. I am willing to bet that a heavy mix of alcohol and ego was involved. Whenever that happens, Travis Tritt  becomes the soundtrack for some people. Whatever Mr. Blue felt Mr. White did or failed to do probably bruised his ego and felt the need to satisfy it. Listening to your ego tends to be a very poor career choice.

Distance (and therefore Time) are your friends in a gunfight. Why throw it away and get close to your contender? Mr. Blue was probably demonstrating to Mr. White he was one Hombre Malo and Mr. White was supposed to cower in fear and surrender to the top cat in the street. Mr. White seems to have disagreed with that statement and Mr. Blue found himself with his gun mostly out of the action and with his life now in danger because he had probably never faced an determined and prepared enemy. He could not come with a proper counter response. Instead he probably went on an ego/stupid move to re assert his superiority, a decision probably fueled by alcohol consumption and paid the last price he was going to pay on this planet. If he had been man enough to ingest a ration of humble pie, he would probably still be contributing to the Global Warming effect by adding his regular quota of carbon dioxide.

I will admit that the Left Handed thing caught me by surprise. I know I was not expecting it and it came handy for Mr. White (pun intended.)

So biys and girls, the lessons for today are: leave the ego at home, booze, guns and stupidity do not mix, keep your distance and be careful of those darned sneaky Lefties!

The Faux Libertarian Brats.

There is no doubt I get crankier than usual whenever elections loom in the horizon. But I even admit that an eleven month pre-electoral crank is a bit much even for me. It is that I am sick of the so-called Libertarians roaming the webs out there.

Till last week I had the notion that Libertarians were mostly people whose platform was to scream a top of their lungs “It is my right to be sodomizing blindfolded goats while I drive my convertible 110 mph with a big fat joint in my mouth.”   Some friends indicated the error of my ways pointing me to the proper sources and I thank them for that, but you Libertarians have a huge Public Relations issue to resolve.

And yes, the Second Amendment should be the only permit required to carry a weapon, but we have not achieved that level yet and you acting like a prick about it is not going to help getting there any faster. And yes, Open Carry is your right also, but if you throw a temper tantrum when asked by a police officer, you are damaging the cause. And no, you are not living in a Police State no matter what your HBO Movie Of The Week pea brain says. And trust somebody who has been there, you really do not want to know the difference between an US LEO and a Police State Thug with a Badge.

I recently heard a podcast where the author was complaining about police harassment to Open Carry people and the example he gave was of why should somebody wearing a kilt and OC at 11:30 pm in a neighborhood where drugs are known to be trafficked should not be interviewed by police because he is not doing anything bad or something like that. Buddy, let me tell you something, if you are walking in front of my house at that time wearing a kilt and OC, rest assured that the side of your head will be painted by a red dot until I don’t see you anymore. And my neighborhood is a pretty quiet one.

Faux Libertarian Brats should start by doing some research: First, what the Libertarian Party stands for, then learn about life in general and about the other political movements, the Constitution, the legislative process and then learn to how to address other people if they want to transmit and educate them on the Libertarian principles. “Because it is my Right’ is not only a extremely weak explanation but makes you sound stupid. In fact, after hearing and reading some statement from some Faux Libertarians, the only difference between them and the Hippie/Anarchist/Occupy Wall Street movement is that they have a better understanding of the principles of hygiene.

More to come on this subject in a future post.

Book Review: Inside The Criminal Mind.

Doing some prep work for an article, I bumped into Inside the Criminal Mind: Revised and Updated Edition by Stanton Samenow. Once I started reading it, I understood why I never heard of the guy in the traditional Media: he does not pull punches or try to sugarcoat things and manages to piss people on both sides of the “What to do with criminals?” debate.Although I think he has managed to piss more the Bleeding Heart cadre than the “Kill Them All, Let God Sort Them Out” Squads.

Quick summary: Criminals are scum. Why, who knows? Can they “be fixed”? No. Only they can fix themselves and it is not easy. For the most part, criminals have the game figured out and will tailor behavior and responses to fulfill the expectations of people they need to fool to either obtain money, power or freedom. OK, it is a crappy summary, but the book is a great trip exploring the way criminal thinks and their “logic.”

Depending where you are coming from, you will get an answer which might not be the one you are looking for but the truth you may not want to hear. If you are into self defense and crime, this will dissipate some remaining misconceptions and will make you reassess your plans. Get the damned book.

Available in Dead Tree Media and Kindle.

I am gonna have to buy a Kindle thingie myself, damn it.

Book Review: Proclaiming Liberty.

Proclaiming Liberty: What Patriots and Heroes Really Said About the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a much needed book of Second Amendment quotes. Author Phillip Mullivor asked me to review the book and being the book junkie I am, could not pass the opportunity.

I have no doubt that the turning point in the war for the Second Amendment came about the same time regular citizens were able to bypass the Old Media and communicate with each other via the Internet. The fight is still here and raging hot because more and more information is being proved or disproved with the amazing access we have. But sometimes the data is not pure and sometimes is just plain BS, specially in the realm of quotes.

Phillip Mullivor took the time to research and gather a great selection of real quotes mostly in favor of the Second Amendment, but also some told by the other side. All quotes come with a respective footnote indicating original source and that is what makes this little book great.

Our cause is the noble one. We do not need to make up facts, figures or quotes like the opposition does. But we must make sure that whatever material we use is truthful and not accept it because it was pre-quoted by somebody else on our side.

The book is available both on Dead Tree Media and Kindle so portability and availability is not a problem.

I’ll be donating this copy of the book to the Miami-Dade Library system. It is worth being where others can read it.
