For Rick: Husband Shoots At “Intruder”, Turns Out To Be Wife.

Rick from the South Florida Daily Blog sent me this link regarding a negligent shooting. I found out this other site that provides a bit more information that will come handy for examination purposes. By the way Rick, for myself and I am sure I speak for the rest of the gun bloggers, we are very happy you are willing to learn and expand your knowledge and we will be always happy to help you.

OK, let’s summarize the facts of the case. Quoting from the second link:

He heard some noises coming from the first floor,” Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. “As he walked downstairs, he armed himself with a firearm, and at that point is when he turned the corner, met face to face and pulled the trigger and shot.”

A quick review of the Four Rules and also so Rick gets to know them:

1) All Guns are Always Loaded.
2) Never Aim The Gun at Anything You Are Not Willing to Destroy.
3) Keep You Finger Off The Trigger Until You Are Ready To Shoot.
4) Be Aware Of Your Target and What Is Behind It.

Top of my head, Hubby screwed with Rules 2, 3 and 4 which is always a very bad combination. Let’s break it down, shall we?

Violation of Rule 2: Hubby was on the move. He probably was doing his best Hollywood gun stance as he was going downstairs, that means muzzle facing forward and probably arms fully extended. I am a fan of the Compressed Ready Position as it gives up very little control, it is easier to maintain in a long run and does not have the muzzle outright forward following the line of movement but the gun can be brought to eye level on a swift punching motion.
Violation of Rule 3: At a basic level, we are still predatory monkeys that react a certain way when faced against a perceived threat. The Fight/Flight/Fright combo makes our bodies react by reducing our size (crouching), protecting our body’s main locations (Chest/Head) and by creating the most fundamental of weapons: a fist. That means we unconsciously and forcefully close our fingers which tends to be a bad thing when one of them is resting over the trigger. Referring again to the picture above, the finger must be outside the trigger guard and preferably alongside the frame of the gun. It is very probable that hubby’s sudden face to face with the wife was surprising and scary enough to provoke a basic reaction and the booger hook activated the bang stick.

Violation Rule 4: It is obvious that target identification was not achieved. Unless there is some other story not told, Hubby failed miserably in this matter and I am sure long weeks of dog house are in his future. Illumination could have also been the problem. A good tactical flashlight is necessary and must be with your weapon or on your weapon for low light or no light situations. Training with this item is simple so it shouldn’t be a big problem to be at least well versed with a little practice.
No matter what, You Do Not Shoot What You Have Not Identified As A Threat.

I wanted to go on with Slicing The Pie and Fatal Funnel, but the post is getting long enough. For the uninitiated, Slicing the Pie is basically Extreme Hide & Seek “played” while doing a house clearing. House clearings must be done by individuals only under exigent circumstances such as saving a family member from immediate danger or remaining on the original position becoming too hazardous. Other than that I am a firm believer in ensconcing, pulling out home artillery and let the idiots come to you.

Feel free to add your two centavos in the comments section. And I would like to thank Rick from bringing a case that teaches us the importance of following the Four Rules.

Fudds Beware: You are a Racist Sniper.

Old school hunting community is still affected by the: “They ain’t coming for my guns, just them assault rifles. Why should I care?” Well, you should because they are indeed after you precious hunting rifles. Take a look at the Violence Policy Center recent Facebook post:

James Earl Ray was not a sniper or even shot MLK with anything resembling what we call a Sniper Rifle. He was a Kukkler & Nazi sympathizer who used a Remington Model 760 pump action rifle configured similar to this:

It would be impossible to know how many deer and other types of game have been taken over the years with this rifle. But VPC had no qualms on identifying James Earl Ray as a sniper and thus the rifle he used must be a sniper rifle. Good news, at least they did not say it was an AK-47 like they always do.

Guns in Hospitals! ZOMG!

The Miami Herald gives us an article about the fact that guns are allowed in Hospitals. The comment section as usual is filled with the Reductio Ad Absurdum comments from the Anti Gun Peanut Gallery wit the usual hate rhetoric from the “peace loving” crowd.

The dangers to shooting victims, the emergency room personnel, and other patients is a real test for ambulance providers, and the hospital.
A no weapons policy should be enforced with long sentences for violators.

No, as a matter of fact, everybody going in a hospital should be required to carry a gun in case a virus or bacteria tries to attack….

Order a morphine drip and a 30 round 40mm clip for the patients Glock.

What we need is more guns in hospitals and university campuses.  I believe the reasoning goes like this, “if there’s more guns, then fewer maniacs will be able to kill people with them because the good people with guns will kill them first”.  Yay for the good people with guns!

If hospitals start banning guns, how will we protect ourselves from the…Infectors?

Marion Hammer, the most dangerous woman in Florida. May she suffer the same fate by her own weapon as that woman lobbyist  did who didn’t want to wear a motorcycle helmet. Guess how she died????

Now here is the kicker. The law that allows guns in Hospitals has been in the books for 25 years now. Do you reckon that if shootings by people with Concealed Weapons Permits was such a gigantic problem, we would have noticed by now?

This is the sign I see every time I go to the hospital where my doctor has his practice. It has been ignored from day one and will remain to be ignored. Ask the hospital managers if they will guarantee your safety and the prompt answer will be NO!
Seriously, I do not take safety information or advice from a group responsible for more deaths a year than any other.
And before you throw a shit fit, do yourself a favor and Google Medical Malpractice Deaths per year. Apparently a stethoscope is more dangerous than a Glock with a 30 round “clip.”

It is that time of the year….

…..when unless you are at the SHOT show and posting pics of the new products, nobody reads your gun blog.

I shall anxiously await for Cool Gun of the Year, Cool Gadget of the Year, WTF Gun of the year (So far the Mossberg 464 SPX lever-action rifle appears to be winning) and WTF Gadget of the Year. If you are a blogger and “accidentally” take a picture of gun babes, I will understand, just share with us mortals at home.

I have been told that services will be held twice daily at Our Lady of Tactical Magpul for those of the M4 Faith in booths 20152 and 20263.

Those of you going, have fun and ignore the curses from those of us staying home.

And do say hi to Paul Helinski when you see him.

UPDATE: First pics arriving already.

Reason why I was not allowed to go. SWMBO is a hard taskmistress.
