Where do criminals get their guns?

For years, gun control advocates have been peddling the claim that “40 percent of gun sales do not go through background checks.” Recently the claim has made its way into several news outlets, including the Las Vegas Sun, USA Today, and the New York Times. The claim that 40 percent of gun sales do not go through a federal background check is false and comes from a decades-old survey that has been widely debunked.

Go read it and bookmark it. Anybody blabbers about the 40% or other related stupidity, you slap him with this.

Know the laws as well as your gun. Perhaps even better.

A 52-year-old woman with a permit to carry a handgun in Florida could face up to 10 years in prison after being arrested in Jersey City while attempting to board a ferry to Ellis Island while carrying a gun, authorities said.Elizabeth J. Griffith, of Daytona Beach, was arrested by U.S. Park Police on July 14 and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. She is scheduled to appear in Hudson County Superior Court on Aug. 12, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said today. The Florida permit to carry a handgun is not valid in New Jersey. Griffith was cooperative when arrested around 12:30 p.m. at a screening station prior to boarding the ferry, Rubino said, adding that the gun was in a holster. She was issued a summons and released on her own recognizance.

Although we have reciprocity with equally gun-friendly many states, some others remain openly hostile to the Second Amendment.  It is your responsibility to figure out which is which prior to any trip you make.

Let’s hope this lady gets a fair shake. The fact she is not in jail or had to post bail shows she may have lucked out.

Why does Walmart stop selling guns and ammo during emergencies?
A little rain and they stop, what happens during real emergencies?

One that needs to be checked out. I thought we were done with the automatic banning during emergencies after Katrina so maybe what we are seeing is an overly generous application of the one statute still remaining in the books:

 AFFRAYS; RIOTS; ROUTS; UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES
870.043 Declaration of emergency.—Whenever the sheriff or designated city official determines that there has been an act of violence or a flagrant and substantial defiance of, or resistance to, a lawful exercise of public authority and that, on account thereof, there is reason to believe that there exists a clear and present danger of a riot or other general public disorder, widespread disobedience of the law, and substantial injury to persons or to property, all of which constitute an imminent threat to public peace or order and to the general welfare of the jurisdiction affected or a part or parts thereof, he or she may declare that a state of emergency exists within that jurisdiction or any part or parts thereof.
History.—s. 3, ch. 70-990; s. 1400, ch. 97-102.

And that leads to:

AFFRAYS; RIOTS; ROUTS; UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES
870.044 Automatic emergency measures.—Whenever the public official declares that a state of emergency exists, pursuant to s. 870.043, the following acts shall be prohibited during the period of said emergency throughout the jurisdiction:
(1) The sale of, or offer to sell, with or without consideration, any ammunition or gun or other firearm of any size or description.
(2) The intentional display, after the emergency is declared, by or in any store or shop of any ammunition or gun or other firearm of any size or description.
(3) The intentional possession in a public place of a firearm by any person, except a duly authorized law enforcement official or person in military service acting in the official performance of her or his duty.
Nothing contained in this chapter shall be construed to authorize the seizure, taking, or confiscation of firearms that are lawfully possessed, unless a person is engaged in a criminal act.

Then again it is Pasco County which with Hillsborough County (Tampa) they act more like part of Southern California than South Florida. Maybe somebody told off at a Deputy and he freaked out forcing to call a riot situation.

Let me see if I got this right.

The Navy is going to prosecute an officer who used his personal weapon to confront the Islamic asshole in Chattanooga.

Some idiot is afraid of a very tiny pistol emoticon in the iPhone and he is demanding Apple to remove it from all the units.

Los Angeles City Council passes a total “High Capacity Magazine” ban even though it has been proven to have no effect in reducing crime.

And we find out that one of the guns used in the terrorist attempt in Garland, TX was sold under the auspices of ATF under the Fast and Furious operation and then they forgot all about it.

All this in one week? And we are the Nuts?
