Voluntary Blindness (A.K.A. Choosing Stupid Because You hate Guns.)

I guess one of the reasons I still visit Twitter is because pearls like this land on my account:
mall safe

Nothing bad ever happens at the mall! Didn’t you know that? You can go to any mall in the US like Newport, VA or Orange Park, Fl or Long Island, NY or Albuquerque, Az or Springfield, Mo or Bismarck, ND or Deptford, NJ or North Riverside , Il and never face a melee of idiots playing modern gladiator games.

Then we have straight shootings at Tukwila, Wa or Savanah, Ga or Columbus, OH or Orlando, Fl or Myrtle Beach, SC or Chicago, Il or the two cops killed at the Panera in a mall at Abingdon, Md

All of the above happened in the last 3 to 4 months.

And I won’t even bother go into the Active Shooter events.

And I close with the rest of the exchange:

The Race Card: Never have a Gun Control discussion without it.

Miss @TallGrrl is what you may call a volunteer victim-on-call and member of the “It won’t happen to me” chapter of the Unicorn Farts Club.

It is that time of the year again.

gator sunning
They are coming out of their holes to warm up and get a tan.
Here is a great summary by Redditor PepticBurrito:

Gators don’t attack people all that often. I grew up in Florida surrounded by them. Considering just how many gators there are in FL, including where millions of people live, the amount of actual attacks are very low. You’re more likely to get killed in a car accident than by a gator.
In general, humans are too big. They prefer smaller targets. That being said, they’ll drown you if you’re swimming in the wrong place.
If you hear their babies, find somewhere else to be because mom will kill you without hesitation. Don’t go swimming with them. Don’t walk your 4 pound dog near them (the number of new arrivals from the NE US whose lose Fluffy to a gator is a little high). If your fishing, be mindful of what you’re doing.
Treat them like the predator they are and don’t do something stupid that begins with the sentence “hold my beer”.

I think that pretty much covers it.
PS: Mating season is soon…

CSGV: Idiots leading other Idiots.

CSGV CPAC Gun free zone
Other fantasy statements in the thread included “No guns allowed at the NRA HQ” and “You couldn’t carry at the NRA Annual Meeting last year.”

CPAC was held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in… wait for it… Maryland. It is not that CPAC or the convention center were Gun Free Zone, but that Maryland is a Gun Free Zone as it is one of the nastiest states on Gun Freedoms and does not recognize carry permits from any other state of the Union.

But never let the facts interfere with a nice solid Narrative based in absolute bullcrap.

If your cause is so righteous, Why lie?

Clusterflock: Guns banned at the 2016 Florida Strawberry Festival, including CCW licensees – The Gun Writer… (or maybe not.)

Firearms are prohibited at the 2016 Florida Strawberry Festival, which opens today in Plant City, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Major Chad Chronister told Tampa’s FOX 13…

Obviously, the move raises a plethora of questions, including possible preemption law violations.
Florida Carry is aware and working on a statement.I’m calling the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for clarification.

Source: BREAKING: Guns banned at the 2016 Florida Strawberry Festival, including CCW licensees – The Gun Writer

Obviously the Hillsborough County Sheriff does not have the power to suddenly declare a locale Gun Free Zone over what the law states., so inquires were made:

Oops! So why did the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office gave such initial and legally overreaching statement?

My opinion? Because they thought the could get away with it!  Simple as that. Hillsborough County is the New Jersey of the South and it is only thanks to State preemption laws that people in Tampa and surrounding areas are free to exercise their Second Amendment Rights.

But we have a happy ending!

UPDATE #3. Licensed concealed carriers are WELCOME at the Florida Strawberry Festival.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is going to publicly retract their earlier statement, which claimed otherwise.

The move drew a quick response from Florida Carry:

“Florida Carry appreciates Sheriff Gee and his legal team taking prompt action to get this issue resolved and for being responsive to the concerns of Florida Carry’s 39 thousand members and supporters, many of whom were prepared to miss this festival rather than give up their rights,” said Eric J. Friday, general counsel of Florida Carry.
This is what can happen when gun owners and concealed carriers are diligent about their Second Amendment rights.
Thanks to all who have helped out today — you know who you are.

Spanked back into legality. And that is the way to do it.

One more thing. Make The Gun Writer another of your must-read stops. Lee Williams is a hard-nosed individual who has no problems chasing after gun-grabbers in Florida. You can also find him in Facebook where you can see him telling me to shut up and stop spamming him…OK, I made up that last part.

Note: The top photo was originally a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Youtube video of the original interview where Major Chad Chronister said no guns were allowed at all. That video has been removed. I stole the screen capture from The Gun Writer to cover the hole. You can still see the video at Fox 13 news, click to minute 2:00.

Pretty please, just stop

The un-funny Trevor Noah did a shtick on the Daily Show about the bill making its way through Iowa that would allow children under the age of 14 to shoot handguns while under direct supervision of an adult.

His coverage of the bill was embarrassingly bad.

“Currently, kids in Iowa can use long guns legally for target practice, or murder, or hunting.”

Yes, he said that.  The rest of the bit got worse from there.  I wished the horror of just how out of touch with reality that was, was due entirely to Trevor Noah’s lack of comedic talent.  But it wasn’t.  This was a case of art imitates life.

During legislative debate over the bill, Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt (D) said “What this bill does, the bill before us, allows for 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to operate handguns.  We do not need a militia of toddlers.”

Really!?!  Because that’s not what happens in real life.  I know.

I started shooting with my dad at about 7 years old.  The only gun we owned at the time was some war trophy my grandfather brought back from the European Theater and was called “Grandpa’s 32.”  I was sold off years ago and I have no idea what it was.  But that was the gateway drug that got my dad and me into shooting.  After that, there was a long string of target pistols including an old Beretta 22 of indeterminate vintage and a Taurus revolver that never hit to point of aim.  That evolved into a wonderful collection of guns that now numbers greater than the number Trevor Noha’s fans.  He got into hunting, I didn’t, and it all started with pistols.  Some of my best memories as a kid are of shooting with my dad.

My story is not unique.  There are many, many kids in quite a lot of states who shoot handguns safely, some far better than many adults.

This isn’t murder.  This isn’t a militia of toddlers.  This is Americans enjoying a constitutionally protected sport as a family.  If you want to talk about safety, Pee Wee Football has the worst injury rate for any sport played by kids.  If you really wanted to protect children, don’t let them play contact sports.

I get that anti-gunners are going to shill because that’s what they do.  But their lies have become so bald faced, that it makes you wonder what color the sky is in the world they live in.
