Bloomberg’s Colossal Nevada Collapse.

Shannon and her Girls were jumping up and down about the Nevada initiative for Universal Background Checks:

But it seems that they thought they were playing a One Arm bandit when in fact they were playing craps and suddenly went Snake Eyes.

CARSON CITY — A new law requiring background checks for private party gun sales in Nevada is unenforceable because it prohibits the state from running those checks through its databases, and the FBI said it will not conduct them, the attorney general’s office said in an opinion issued Wednesday…

…But unlike retail sales, the initiative states that dealers conducting background checks for private party transfers must contact the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System “and not the Central Repository,” which is operated by the state, to determine whether the buyer is eligible to purchase or possess firearms under state and federal law.

“The Background Check Act mandates that the FBI conduct all background checks for personal transfers,” Monica Moazez, spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, said in a statement. “The FBI, on Dec. 14, informed the Department of Public Safety that it will not conduct these background check

That burns deep and white. According to Bob Owens over at Bearing Arms, Bloomberg spent some $20 million to get this initiative voted in and now it turned into desert sand. So where do private citizens stand on private sales? Here is the Nevada’s Attorney General’s letter:

So, Bloomberg spent not only money but political and P.R. capital to get the initiative approved and then voted on, only to (by your own hand) collapse into a heap of lizard dung in front of you.  IANAL but I don’t see another initiative being brought forward. Maybe a fix through the Legislature since the Assembly is firmly in the hands of the Democrats but the Senate is just a one vote majority with an independent and a vacant seats making the difference. The Governor is Republican, but I don’t know of his record and intentions about Gun Rights.

Anyway, what should have been a great win for the Gun Control Crowd, turned out to be not only a loss but an embarrassing one.

I love getting gifts even after Christmas.

WTF is wrong with people?

Twitchy covered this piece in the Daily Kos, Why Trump voters are not welcome in my house this holiday.

Another anti-Trump, butthurt liberal is canceling his holiday party because he doesn’t want to be in the same room with people who might have voted for Trump.

We couldn’t invite only the few people we knew who conformed to our sense of decency.  We weren’t even sure where some of our neighbors stood. So we cancelled the whole affair.  In fact, I went further.  I told my tennis group, whom I had known for years, I would no longer be playing with them, since most were Trump supporters. I stated that I could not socialize with people who lacked a moral compass which I consider fundamental to being American.  What has brought about such an extreme reaction in me, to the point of cutting off relationships and ceasing activities that I enjoy?  It’s really not that complicated.

Some Hillary supporting douche wants to ruin all of his friendships and show everybody he knows just how much of a sanctimonious, hateful asshole he really is because his candidate didn’t win the electoral college.  So what?

The answer is: never read the comments.

Lets encourage children to break off friendships and not talk to distant relatives because of Trump.

I wonder if she’s going to hold this grudge until her parents dead bed? I don’t think she’ll ever regret that decision.

It is totally healthy to love Hillary Clinton more than your own mother and brother.

Not just parents and siblings but CHILDREN TOO.  I guess if your kids don’t vote the way you want, it is good parenting to write them off as dead to you.

At least fhandar saved money on Christmas presents this year.

She’s bragging about the fact that she went off the anti-Trump rails before the election.  Never mind burning the bridge after the votes came in.  She nuked it preemptively.  Anything less than 100% of the popular vote going to Hillary is unacceptable.

Kalisiin is back.  It it completely wrong, inhuman. and un-Americana to dislike people because they are black, gay, trans, Muslim, or any other sort of minority.  Openly hating and despising people and thinking of them and treating them as less than human because they voted for Trump… well that is just the patriotic thing to do.

I see all of this and have to as, WTF is wrong we people.

I can’t imaging breaking off long term friendships over an election, but breaking ties with parents, siblings, and children because of Trump sounds like a mental problem.

My sister is an avowed communist and loves to lecture us about her communist ideologies.  It makes some family dinners awkward, but she’s still invited home for the holidays.

I’m a father.  I love my son.  The idea of having a disagreement with him over presidential candidates that makes me want to never see him again is inconceivable.

There is something very, very  wrong with these people.  This type of liberalism really is a mental disorder.

Typing Monkeys: Math is so hard for Gun Control.

If you feel like it’s been happening every other day, you’re not far off target. As we approach year’s end, the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, which tracks shootings, has logged more than 340 mass-shooting incidents in 2016 – that’s nearly one per calendar day — with a total so far of more than 400 people killed and nearly 1,400 wounded, not unlike last year’s figures. Some are domestic disputes, some workplace anger, some targeted attacks, some related to mental illness, some just plain fights that got out of hand.

Source: Mass shootings in America — a sad trend continues – The Mercury News

Wait one second, there is something not computing here with those numbers of victims given. According to the Gun Violence Archive‘s own site:

But going by the method espoused by Gun Violence Archive and Ms. Angela Hill, author of the article for The Mercury News, of only counting those events with more than four dead. we have an issue: 340 mass shooting times 4 victims equals 1,360 corpses, right? But the article claims only 400 people killed. To accept that number of 400 hundred dead in 340 “mass shooting” we would have to lower the definition of people killed during the attack from 4 to 1.17.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

And one more thing: the FBI does not have a definition, derived or otherwise of Mass Shooter.  There is an agreed term by Federal agencies for active shooter:

Glad I could clear that up for those who did not know it.

Anyway, you have to be really dumb/distracted when you cannot get the math right even when you get to move the goalposts and come up with your own definitions.

NAGR, Dudley Brown and Mike Rothfeld

I learned about NAGR and its deplorable tactics in the course of my advocacy for the Convention of States Project (another target of concentrated NAGR attacks). As it turns out, NAGR is just one of a pack of ankle-biter groups, all of which trace back to Mike Rothfeld. Among this web of Rothfeld groups are Campaign for Liberty, Foundation for Applied Conservative Leadership, and Council for Freedom and Enterprise.Nice names. What they all share is the Rothfeld secret sauce — best described by the wizard himself:
“I am a professional junk mailer. I am a professional telemarketer. I’m a professional spammer — like, a hundred million pieces of emails a month. And I’m a professional negative campaigner. And I’m damn proud of all four.”
While most of us abhor negative campaigning, we can at least understand it as an effort to induce people to choose Option A over Option B. But that isn’t the game Rothfeld and Dudley Brown are playing.

People normally would call them mercenaries, but that would be an insult to the memories of warriors like Michael Hoare. These people are here just to make a buck knowing that we are hard-core participants and quick to respond to an alert. This is where they abuse the system and make pledges for money. And I think lately they have upped the ante by playing “poison pill” in legislatures and screwing with pro-gun bills in order to be recognized as players and collect monies for their efforts.

You may have been approached already and probably are annoyed at their shit either under NAGR or one of their “state affiliates” which are as hollow as their hearts. This is a list from their own website:

Stay frosty and stick with the ones at state level that have actually done stuff and long time recognized entities at national level.

Clickbait Headline on Open Carry.

Lat’s see if we can get some controversy going, shall we? What? badly written? Not accurate? It can be misunderstood as the Legislature ordering gun owners to carry openly? OK, let’s change it to something like this:

But hey! The URL is still showing the original title…what? Already published and can’t change it? Damn it. Oh well, nobody reads the URL anyway.

Remember, I am done giving “journalists” the benefit of the doubt unless proven otherwise.

Catholics going Trailer Park? Pass!

New Year’s Day promises two certainties: college football bowl games and Christmas trees on the curb. To Catholics, of course, January 1 is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. It’s a Holy Day of Obligation, and the final day of the Octave of Christmas. The Church, however, is so generous with joy. She does not end our celebration of the Incarnation with the conclusion of the Octave of Christmas. She extends it to Epiphany. Twelfth Night, as our English-speaking brethren call it, is an event Catholics in America should celebrate with more enthusiasm (think: roaring bonfires, grilled meat, lots of singing, red wine, brown ale) and might very well do if it were observed here on the Liturgical Calendar on January 6 as it is England, Australia, and Canada, to say nothing of Vatican City. But the celebrating doesn’t stop there! After Epiphany, the revelry continues until the Baptism of the Lord, the first Sunday after January 6 (usually). This year, Catholics may very well wish to keep their decorations up through January 11. And if you want to be really traditional, you can celebrate what the faithful called “Christmastide” before the liturgical reforms that followed the Second Vatican Council. In the old rite, or what we today call the Extraordinary Form, Christmastide lasted for 40 days to correspond with the 40 days of Lent, and the 40 days from Easter to Ascension Thursday.

Since besides the tree we do the nativity scene, the take down of Holiday Decorations happen on December 6, also known as “Dia de Reyes” or when allegedly the Three Wise Men showed up with the gifts and in Spain is when the kids finally get their presents (or coal) which kinda sucks.

I have a confession to make. I am not a very joyous person and I have managed to convince the missus not to decorate the outside of the house as it is a pain in the ass. But that came with the compromise she can have her tree and other decorations inside the house plus mom gets to set up the world weirdest nativity scene (She lost her original 1/24 scale baby Jesus and somebody gave her a 1/8 baby Jesus substitute and now we have “Our Lord was born on steroids” nativity scene.)  So, as my limit is January the 6th and after that, stuff in white, red and green will mysteriously disappear (The case of the Dancing Cowboy Santa is still unresolved.)

If you find it, don’t tell my wife. Just leave it buried.

So, no way in hell I am going to deal with Christmas decorations till sometime the end of the first fiscal quarter! I do believe Joan of Arc met her ending because she left mistletoe, ribbons and lights till at least Ash Wednesday and some say even longer.

So, if you are Catholic, just say no to extended decoration days. Keep it Protestant and get rid of the stuff on January First or survive till the Sixth.

Post Christmas Sale Humor

I went to the mall with my wife to see what was on post Christmas sale.  We’re wandering around when we come across a store with a name I recognize as a high end retailer.  We go in and I ask to see one of their fine items, at which point the woman behind the counter looks at me (as one of my friends would say) “like I have a dick growing out of the center of by forehead” and my wife makes a noise indicated her displeasure at taking me out in public once again.

I love my wife, but we are two different people.

Apparently I was thinking this:

When to the rest of the civilized world, Swarovski means this:
