It is a small safe…

For illustration purposes only.

A hotel model to be precise and no, not the one in the picture. But I keep a “couple” of guns in that thing plus magazines,  assorted handgun ammo and some papers.

Yesterday after a quick visit to the Wally World, I scored .22 LR ammo and some rifle cartridges. But when I went to secure them in the safe, I realized that inside was a mess that needed some clean up and order.

I can do this! I am an adult!

I pulled everything out, laid it on a table and went to build some order inside. It is ammo and guns we are talking about, I should not feel like I am playing tactical Jenga every time I open that safe.  Can I say I hate .22 LR manufacturers? People, it ain’t that hard to have ONE STANDARDIZED BOX SIZE for measly 100 rounds of ammo! Trying to get those boxes in order felt like those baby block games where you must insert the right shape in the right hole only there is no hole other than the one you are creating.

If the different 22 ammo boxes were not enough, then you have several different sizes of cartridges ranging from 9 mm to .30-06 that need to be fitted and, they are also different sizes.

Papers? They go in a manila envelope on the back of the safe. See? Genius! Magazines, speed loaders and the myriad of small unrelated parts you just kept shoving in there so they would not end up in the trash by accident? Zip lock bags by class. Again, genius!… but they don’t fit anywhere and I still have the handguns to deal with…. oh crap.

Long story short. I manage to place everything inside the safe in what it looks as if somebody with a sense of order lived in this house. You could not fit an anemic fart in there, but By God it looks good!  I swing the door in and nothing blocks it, bolts lock the door without effort. I smile in triumph.

….till I look at the table where a revolver and 2 boxes of ammo are just there sitting pretty. I swear I can almost hear them chuckling at my disbelief. I hate them, I hate them deeply and I tell them so by pointing outside and letting them know that contrary to many gun owners, I do have a frigging lake where guns and ammo could go and disappear. They are silent, but I can detect a bit of smirk. Nothing I can do.

I open the safe and look: there is simply no space. Strange since before I “fixed” it, the gun and the boxes of ammo were also inside. But now I might have created a temporal rift or some pocket dimension that made the safe shrink inside while maintaining the same outside dimensions. Now I am afraid to stick my hand inside for fear my digits end up doing a Stargate to some weird planet somewhere in the galaxy.

I have no other solution: Amazon search for gun safes.  I am not tempting the multidimensional gods for a couple of boxes of .357 Magnum.

And who said a full size K frame is a bad choice for New York Reload?

Everytown and CCW Reciprocity

I noticed that Everytown for Gun Safety has been doing a series of posts on their Facebook page attacking the idea of national concealed carry reciprocity.

Of course, being an Bloomberg funded anti-gun group, they have to resort to lies and deceit.

These are three of the posts that I saw.  Lets analyze, shall we?

Yes, it is true that South Carolina requires life fire training for a CWP permit and Georgia does not.  That really isn’t a big problem for South Carolina through, since it already has reciprocity with Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and all the other Southern states that have lower standards.

First of all, Maryland’s permits are may issue and has a “good and substantial reason” to carry a gun and honors no out of state permits.  West Virginia has constitutional carry, but still has to abide by federal law.  So any person convicted of domestic violence or under a restraining order is a prohibited person and can’t poses a gun, let alone carry one in public.  You wound’t know that from Everytown’s post.

I don’t know where they got the idea that Ohio has a specific ban for abusive dating partners and Pennsylvania doesn’t.  Ohio seems to follow the federal NICS standard for domestic violence convictions and restraining orders when it comes to issuing CCW permits.  Pennsylvania does too, they even call their the PICS, and you can guess what that stands for.  Ohio and Pennsylvania have reciprocity too.

Minnesota is America’s second most Liberal state.  Really.  The Twin Cities are the San Francisco of the Midwest.  Much like Chicago and Illinois, they politics of the big city is very different than the rest of the rural state and the big city has enough of a population that they can push the rest of the state around.  Hence, like Illinois, the anti-gun attitude in the big city has made the state CCW system hyper-restrictive and have very little reciprocity with other states

Nebraska doesn’t have reciprocity with Minnesota and Nebraska requires live fire, fingerprints, and 8 hours of class time.  Sometimes having similar standards isn’t enough, politics drives these decisions as well.

That is why I am a YUGE supporter of national CCW.  Get the state politics out of the game.  Only in the straw man mind of Everytown would a national CCW policy fall to the lowest common denominator.  What is desired is a single standard that every state is required to recognize.  If a state wants a lower standard within the state, fine, but reciprocity requires meeting the national standard.

South Dakota did something similar.  A basic SD permit is easy to get, but the higher level Enhanced Permit gets reciprocity with Nebraska (something that it didn’t have when I lived there).

If I have to sit through 8 hours of training and shoot a B-27 or B-29 so many times, fine.  When I’m done I get to carry in Baltimore when visiting my sister, and in New Jersey when visiting my brother.

Then there was this post.

Did the repeal of handgun purchase and carry permits really cause a spike in crime?  If you work for Bloomberg, yes.

If you look at all the factors, than no.   Yes, violent crime and gun crime have spiked in Missouri.  Almost all of it has been in the urban areas around St. Louis and Kansas City.  Not just that, but the majority of the violence comes from just one-third of the neighborhoods in the  cities.  The violence is concentrated in poor areas, that are predominantly black.  This is mirrored in other American cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington D.C.

There are several reasons for this.  In Missouri, criminals caught illegally possessing guns have been given probation instead of jail time.  Cheap Mexican heroine has made its way into the Midwest, fueling gang crime.  Gang membership is up because of the Ferguson incident, as young, dissafected black men join gangs in protest of police.

The culture in urban Missouri can be shown in this quote:

Jennifer M. Joyce, the top prosecutor in St. Louis, keeps a framed picture of a teenager from one of her recent cases posing with a gun.

“It has reached the point in St. Louis where this guy can get a gun really easily,” she said. “He believes that gun is going to allow him to avenge the death of his buddy. But what we all know is that gun will either be the death of him or cause him to end up in prison.”

That is the making of a gang war.  But anti-gun Liberals will never focus on that.  Everytown only pays lip service to gang violence.

Their real enemy is the almost non-existent law abiding, concealed carry permit holder, who gets angry and goes on a killing spree.

What is really comes down to is (again) Liberal elitism.

That’s what they really believe.  They don’t want any knuckle-dragging, flyover country, hayseeds from Missouri to pack heat when they take their once-in-a-lifetime vacation to the Big Apple.

There is no level of training that would satisfy these people enough to allow me to carry in their precious urban utopias.

God forbid some redneck from Alabama carry a gun in NYC.  How gauche!

It’s not like I’m going to whip it out and fire one off on the subway.  They already have enough locals doing just that.

So I have been taken to task…

About calling the Tampa area the Florida version of San Francisco & the West Coast.  And I am guessing somebody will bitch about my depicting of Palm Beach County and parts of Broward as the NY/NJ North East part of the state.

I apologize…lightly.  No, you guys are not as bad, but some shit up there kinda makes you think we ain’t living in Florida.

I reckon that us why we need a hurricane every ten years: Some serious deep cleaning and sending carpetbaggers back north…or to the deep waters.

Holy S***! They really hate Putnam!

Tampa Bay Times Columnist Daniel Ruth seems not to like Putnam.

So Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, a Republican candidate for governor, went on an NRA boot-licking tour a few days ago. He noted what a swell idea it is to permit gun owners to carry their little friends on college campuses, as well as endorsing proposals to allow the open carry of weapons in public places. Yep, this chap is really running for governor. It is entirely possible by the time the 2018 campaign gets into full swing, the Opie of open carry will be suggesting that any newborn infant in the state should be given a Glock in the maternity ward.

Damn son! Who took a leak on your tofu breakfast cereal? Last time I saw that many derogatory terms for somebody of the Ginger persuasion, Eric Cartman joined forces with BLM. (OK, he didn’t. Cartman has a modicum of morality.)

You have to forgive Mr. Ruth. he has not had a good year so far. Just alone the fact that he has to live with the fact that Trump is his president no matter how many #NotMyPresident he keeps typing alone in his IBM Selectric has to be dreadful. But Danny boy here got “released” from the radio station he used to have a talk show and it got cancelled. Why? They could not get sponsors for the show. He was the only Lefty in an all-talk-radio station of Tampa which I gleefully call The San Francisco of Florida conveniently located in our West Coast. That is the equivalent of going bankrupt with a donuts shop next to a police station. How bad do you have to suck when even your own people will not tune in?

Pissed Off Lefty is Pissed Off: Daniel Ruth.

I am going to have to check on Mr. Putnam, after all, my CWP license is signed by him. Who knows? maybe we will have a Ginger President in the 21st president and I have a cool memento from when he got started?
