Short answer: To keep them away from your hands.

Once again we are witnessing the less than innocent wording by VPC’s Social Media Intern.

And the friend is not a virginal guy. According to his own words:

The friend said he has a concealed carry permit but left his Taurus 9mm gun with Walls because he didn’t want to have it when he was driving, the complaint says.

But there is no onus on him for the shooting. He did not give the gun or left it unchecked with the minors, the father did.  Incidentally the father was a prohibited person five ways from Sunday, but again, not the problem of the gun owner unless he knew he was prohibited. And the fact that daddy is not being charged with a gun violation says a lot.

But VPC had to figure out a way to say it was direct responsibility of the Gun Owner with  CWP.  I would not be surprised to see this case in their “Concealed Carry Killers!” report (cue ominous music) which as usual it will be plagued with falsehoods.

Americans have constitutional right to openly carry firearms, court rules

Texas kicks ass.  Wait… what?  Not Texas?  Hawaii?  Really?

Americans have a constitutional right to openly carry firearms, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday, delivering a major victory to gun rights supporters.

While courts previously have recognized the right to own firearms to protect the home, the decision by the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit extends that into the public sphere, calling it a “core Second Amendment right.”

In a 2-1 ruling, the panel said Hawaii’s law severely restricting guns outside homes or businesses tramples on that right.

I agree, totally, but to hear this come out of the 9th Circuit is just weird.

Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain, who wrote the majority opinion, scoured history from Geoffrey Chaucer’s England to the American antebellum period to trace the history of gun rights. He ruled that there is little doubt the authors of the Second Amendment were comfortable with Americans openly carrying weapons for self-defense, and until the Constitution is changed, that remains the standard.

“For better or for worse, the Second Amendment does protect a right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense,” the judge wrote.

Damn straight it does.

Why was the 9th Circuit ruling on this now?

A number of localities have tested the boundaries by restricting concealed-carry or banning certain types of firearms or add-ons.

Hawaii’s law generally requires that guns be kept at homes or businesses, though state code Section 134-9 says residents can obtain a license to carry a loaded handgun if they can prove to the local police chief that they fear for their safety or property.

George Young, a resident of Hawaii County, also known as the Big Island, applied for a carry license in 2011 but was denied twice.

Indeed, county officials acknowledged that they had never approved a carry permit.

So “May Issue” = “No Issue” in the Aloha State.  That’s pretty much the same for California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, etc.  Sure, if you are a wealthy celeb or businessman and you donate enough money to the right people – or just bribe the shit out of the police – you can get the rare CCW in one of these states.  A regular civilian with no special connections or influence is not going to get a CCW permit in one of these states.

Of course this decision came from a three judge panel and not a ruling of the whole 9th Circuit.  It can be appealed back to the 9th for judgement.

The 9th can overturn a ruling made by a panel of three of its own judges, which is then grounds for another appeal up to SCOTUS.

I would love nothing more than to see SCOUTS pull a Moore v. Madigan on may issue and rule it unconstitutional, forcing shall issue on the entire nation.  That takes us one step closer to national reciprocity.

It might also make most of the population of New York and California’s heads explode, which would be fun to watch too.

This is some very interesting news out of the 9th.

So, c’mon Republicans, get Kavanaugh on SCOTUS now so we can get this decision on lock.

Every law, no matter the law, no matter how petty it seems, it ultimately backed up by violence and lethal force.  It is an inescapable fact.

So when deciding upon what laws to create and what laws to enforce, ultimately someone should (but never does) ask “is this worth sending a SWAT team to kick someone’s door down over?”

It’s not something we like to think about, but it is very much the truth.

Enter the city of Santa Barbara.

No More Plastic Straws or Styrofoam

Santa Barbara has joined the ranks of about 100 California cities that have already voted to ban Styrofoam food containers, and it has become at least the 10th to ban plastic straws. Plastic coffee stirrers and cutlery ​— ​knives, forks, spoons, and sporks ​— ​lived to survive another day but will be available only upon request. Exceptions will be made for people with handicaps severe enough to meet the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act, for whom the durability and flexibility of plastic straws is paramount.

But Santa Barbara upped the ante over every other Liberal city.

Santa Barbara, by contrast, has banned even compostable straws, permitting only drinking tubes made from nonplastic materials such as paper, metal, or bamboo. The city also has made a second violation* of its straw prohibition both an administrative infraction carrying a $100 fine and a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to six months in jail. Each contraband straw or unsolicited plastic stirrer counts as a separate violation, so fines and jail time could stack up quickly.

Yes, you read that right.  Possession of two drinking straws could net you 6 months in jail.

I’m not sure how this law is going to be enforced, but a box of Capri Sun, like the kind I put in my kid’s lunch box contains 10 juice pouches and each one has a straw.  That’s 10 violations per box if I take the law at face value.

That means, if this law is enforced at face value, a mom with two kids’ lunches, each containing a juice box can be thrown down on the ground and handcuffed by cops with guns.

To put that into perspective, a soccer mom with two juice boxes for her kids in the back of the minivan can be sentenced to the same amount of jail time as a person in Santa Barbara deliberately infecting another with HIV.

This is in the same state, a sanctuary state mind you, that, in violation of Federal law, allows people to smoke recreational marijuana.

If a illegal immigrant, driving drunk without insurance and marijuana in his pockets slams into that soccer mom van with her kids and their juice boxes, that mom with spend more time in jail than than the drunk driving illegal.

The state that banned boxes with springs in them has no banned hollow plastic tubes.

A ban which is punishable with jail time and enforced by people with guns.

They may not have stated it explicitly, but the City Council of Santa Barbara thinks it’s reasonable to kill someone over a short hollow plastic tube.

I wonder what level of worry is running through the Secret Service right now. They gotta know that more than one lunatic is out there planning to do something similar to POTUS and the only reason is that most Liberals are too selfish to put their lives on the line for their beliefs.

But it only takes one lucky asshole who is willing to lose his life to kill a President to start a real version of The Purge and not the one Hollywood wants it to be.

On Sunday, there was a mass shooting in Toronto.  Two people were killed and 13 more were injured.  The shooter killed a few blocks from the scene, if he killed himself or was shot by police has yet to be determined.  The shooter used a handgun.

I know what you are thinking.  This is impossible.  We have been assured that Canada has no gun crime and is a model of total social cohesion.  Also Canada’s universal healthcare system means that nobody dies before their time.

But this report of a shooting appears to be true.

The shooter’s name is Faisal Hussain.

I know what you are thinking and it’s not true.  Hussain was a peaceful man.  Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims have integrated into Canada’s peaceful ways seamlessly.

The only explanation is that he was insane.

Hussain “had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life,” his family’s statement continued. “The interventions of professionals were unsuccessful. Medications and therapy were unable to treat him. While we did our best to seek help for him throughout his life of struggle and pain, we could never imagine that this would be his devastating and destructive end.”

Now I’m all confused.  Shouldn’t Canada’s miraculous healthcare system taken care of Hussain.

As new details about the shooter emerge, we learn:

But a law enforcement source told CBS News that Faisal Hussain visited Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) websites and may have expressed support for the terrorist group. They were looking into whether Hussain may have lived at one time in Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan, the source said. There is no indication that Hussain was directed by ISIS to carry out the attack.

Well, ISIS claims responsibility for Toronto mass shooting.

I don’t know what to believe anymore.

It’s a good thing the Mayor of Toronto can straighten my mind out for me.

“I have said for some time that this city has a gun problem and that guns are far to readily available for far too many people,” Tory said. “This is an international problem and this is a domestic problem. There are far too many people carrying around guns in our city and our region who should not have them.”

“You’ve heard me ask the question of why anybody would need to buy 10 or 20 guns, which they can lawfully do under the present laws,” Tory continued. “And that leads to another question we need to discuss: Why does anyone in this city need to have a gun at all?”

Tory said in his call for a gun control debate following the deadly shooting in the city’s Greektown the night before that even if the discussion could prevent just “one of these incidents,” in his view, “it is a discussion worth having and having very soon.”

Oh thank goodness.  I was worried for a second.  I thought that this shooting represented a failure of the Canadian healthcare system and Canadian national security system to treat mental illness and stop an insane Muslim from making contact with ISIS.

When the state fails to do what it promises it will do, the only answer is to strip the rights of law abiding citizens who committed no crimes.

That will stop the people from questioning why a bloated government bureaucracy that demands so much in taxes is so fucking incompetent at preventing these kinds of incidents from happening.

At least the United States has a Second Amendment to slow down people from covering up the failure of government by restricting gun rights.

Canada has no such protections.  Brace yourselves Canadian gun owners.  Your goverment dropped the ball and now they are going to take your guns as punishment.

So one of the Cohen tapes (legality still to be determined) has been released.

And much to the surprise of the Democrats, nobody is giving a damn other than a few Never Trumpers. IO have no idea why since they have been siding with defending every kind of sexual perversion every time one of them is caught doing it.
