Month: February 2019

I save myself money and aggarvation by doing the right thing.

One of the great joys of living in south Florida is that there is a good chance your house is mostly concrete blocks and metal studs and the roof framing and boards are wood. Basically you are less prone of being attacked by termites although the effing wood eating ants can pose a problem.

My back porch is all wood and I keep some odd and ends of boards and other wooden things in case of need. A couple of pieced next to the fence were detected with the unholy signs of some small wood eating insect and since arson even for pest control is against the law, I have to go the route of insecticide.

You know what I did not do? Go to Home Depot or Lowes or Ace.  None of the shit they sell to deal with bugs is worth spit. I am not going to even think about the money I wasted over the years in that crap.

There are sites in the web that will sell you the real stuff that exterminations use in different size and the initial sticker price is gonna rock your butt. Most big cans of insecticide will cost about $5  and swear they kill everything with an exoskeleton. I have one can of an insecticide, not a wide spectrum like the one at Big Hardware Store that cost me $23 and I bought because of a flea infestation and only used it once inside the house. A little vial of Temprid (8 ml or 0.27 oz) cost me $10 and good for a gallon to spray all outside the back porch. Ladies and gents, one pass, no more fleas.  I did a retouch 3 weeks later just to assure the eggs were properly dosed and kill any new generation. No more issues.

The following year, we got a roach problem all of a sudden in the kitchen. Mom was pissed, the Missus was pissed and I was pissed ’cause this is not a low rent place where we don’t give a damn about cleanliness. This time I got not only spray but gel bait from Bayer and that is the first thing I used because I never done it before. I swear to you, I laid down the bait stations and I saw the effing roaches come out and attack the bait. I could not find a living roach 24 hours later.  I sprayed anyway, we cleaned all the following day and we had not had an issue with roaches since (2 and a half years ago). I think the total cost that time was over the $70 and it was well worth it.

One of the things I noticed that these professional products have that the store-bought products don’t (besides not being watered down) is IGR or Insect Grow Regulator and I quote “IGR are pesticides that don’t usually kill insects outright but instead affect the ability of insects to grow and mature normally. IGRs either block the insect’s ability to turn into an adult or cause it to change into an adult before it is physically able to reproduce.” basically, it neuters them. From what I understood reading about it, some insects like fleas have very tough eggs and most insecticide cannot penetrate them, but IGR will.

So I placed my order for some Terminator Quality Termicide ($43) to my people of Do-It-Yourself Pest Control and should be here Monday and I will go all Ahnold on their asses.  Word of warning: Remember I mentioned this stuff is not watered down? Use all precautions and I am not kidding, be safe with this stuff.

Busy morning and Book plug. RIMWORLD -Militia Up

Amazing how the simplest of tsk get compounded in complication when your back is screwed up. Out almost all morning with mom and I now need my rest and 800 mg of Motrin.

In other news, JL Curtis released Rimworld- Militia Up. It is his second foray into science fiction and the second of the Rimworld books. You all know him from the Gray Man series I have posted about before and even though I am not a SciFi fan, I did enjoy the book’s story and the way he tells it. I was actually surprised that it “sounded” like him but not just like I am used to read him in his Gray Man books which makes for a nice surprise.  I particularly liked how easy he made for the characters to be believable even if they were a bunch of different species with particular idiosyncrasies.

If you like the SciFi, go ahead and give it a try. Available in Dead Tree and Kindle.

Reader’s opinion on a [bad] idea.

I watched a YouTube video of a guy restoring a 1977 Peterbilt 359 last night.

I looked at some eBay Motors auctions and was surprised just how cheap a running 359 can be.

So it gave me a bad idea.  I ran it by the wife this morning, and she said “Ugh.”

I want some reader’s opinions.

Keep in mind, I don’t want to do this now, this will take some money so it is most likely a pipe dream, but still.

I want to get a 359 with a sleeper cab.  Have it restored with the vibrant color, two tone, metallic paint job of a classic 359.  Rebuild the engine, transmission, brakes, make sure the whole truck is back to like new.

Then I want to find a coach builder or body shop that can fabricate me a sheet metal and pickup bed for it like a 1970 Ford F100 stepside.

Have a sleeper cab pickup truck with a 270 inch wheelbase.

Getting the truck should be cheap.  Having it restored will be a bear.

I figure if I am making the kind of bank where I could buy a fully dressed Mercedes S-Class, I would rather have something like this done for me.

It would be unique.

Or am I just bat-poop crazy?

Florida: They are back!

Since I have been posting the bills, it should not be a big surprise.

Now is the time to put up or shut up. And I want to reach to those who were so vociferous and uncompromising last year and remind them now it is the time they are supposed to be done talking and start lobbying.

Remember to post pictures from Tallahassee with the Legislators and share with us your accomplishments.

I nominate AOC to have her face on the currency

I saw this on Twitchy and it explains everything.

First, let me introduce you to Stephanie Kelton.  She is a Professor of Economics & Public Policy at Stony Brook University, and was Chief Economist for the Democrats on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee.

Here is the Tweet that started it all.  I highly recommend you read the whole thread before it gets taken down.

So what is in the Green New Deal that the government can just buy with it’s own currency.  Here are some excerpts from Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal launch memo.

Quality health care, affordable housing, and economic security for all who are unwilling to work.

So right out of the gate the US government is going to take care of everyone who decides never to go back to work because they are going to get taken care of by the government.  I’d say… at least half of the 160 Million US workforce, and their dependents, would quit overnight if this happened.

What else?

Also known as rolling blackouts and power bills that dwarf your mortgage payment.

You get a new house… and you get a new house… and you get a new house…

Cattle cars for the proles whole the Eco-Nomenklatura get to drive the electric version of the Trabant.

At which point the Great Green Leap Forward causes famine.

So what we are going to get is a totally destroyed economy with mass starvation and death.  That sounds like something definitely worth paying for.  Let’s get more details from Professor Kelton on how exactly were going to do that.

So yes… we’re going to print money to pay for this.

I’m going to skip over some tweets where she explains why using tax money or raising the national debt to pay for the Green New Deal is a bad idea.

Well, if we put 2 and 2 together…

Professor Kelton want’s to print money to pay for a program that will blight agriculture, destroy manufacturing, put millions of Americans out of work by eliminating the energy, mining, fossil fuels, plastics, automotive, trucking, and aviation industries, and then incentivise everybody else to not be willing to work and live off the government dime.

You know what this is going to do?

I wonder if Professor Kelton can spell Hyperinflation.

By the time we’re done, the exchange rate is going to be a trillion dollars to the Bolivar.

That a woman who could advocate for a policy that failed in Weimar Germany, Zimbabwe, and Venezuela was the economics expert for the Senate Democrats now makes everything make sense.

Of course she will, and she will retweet it as proof that the Green New Deal will work perfectly.

I posted this once before as a joke.

Now I I think that once the Green New Deal is put into place, it should be Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s face on the 100 Quadrillion dollar bill.

Now that Kamala Harris backs the Green New Deal, if she gets elected in 2020, I’m going to liquidate my assets and use the money to buy ammo.

I don’t need to pay for a house if the government is going to give me one.

I will need the ammo to hunt for food and fight off the roving mobs of those unwilling to work, who come to eat my dogs because the bread line ran out of gluten free avocado toast after the third person.

Why we do not believe the Press: NYT uses the “Not real Socialism” excuse fact-checking the President.

The New York Times (and taco stand) is at it again.  This time with a really shameful attempt to deflect what is going on in Venezuela just to try and stick it to the President.

Because no Socialist regime EVER has committed the sins of corruption and absence of democratic process, that is something unheard of in the former Soviet Union, in Cuba, Zimbabwe, etc.  As fo the rule of law, Maduro has followed the law plenty, but then again he had it written on his favor.

I am so for the NTY to sell its building and have it redesigned as unchecked homeless shelter and shooting gallery. At least the quality of people inside would be better.

Maybe rather than selling it, they should do the Socialist thing and donate it, right?

Long Range Shooting: Acceptable Accuracy

I like the concept as a way to remove BS from the mental component. I know I have done my best shooting in matches if I just go identify and with the flow rather than go objective and trying to over analyze my approach.
