Florida: HB 403 – Safety of Religious Institutions – To the House Judiciary
Safety of Religious Institutions: Authorizes religious institution to allow concealed weapons or concealed firearms licensee to carry firearm on property of institution for certain purposes.
Judiciary Committee: On agenda for: 04/16/19 1:30 PM
My uneducated guess, this will be the last committee in the House before being taken to the full floor.
As usual, it would be a good idea to drop an email to the members seeing that we can’t get our people to even show up for the hearings.

This is a weird case. Man arrested for making homemade gun in Zephyrhills
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County man was arrested this week for making a homemade gun that was used by another person last year during a domestic aggravated assault.
Deputies arrested 57-year-old Robert Wayne Miller on Thursday at his home in Zephyrhills.
According to an arrest affidavit, Miller made a gun for himself in August 2018. He told deputies he learned how to make the homemade gun from the internet and said “it was easy,” the affidavit say
Man arrested for making homemade gun in Zephyrhills
This is a head scratcher for me. Nothing in the Florida Statutes prohibits the manufacturing of a firearm. you have to go all the way to the bottom to read what he was charged with:
Miller has now been arrested for possessing, making or attempting to make any destructive device.
We know that legally a destructive device is not the same thing as a gun and it says so in the Florida statutes.
“Destructive device” means any bomb, grenade, mine, rocket, missile, pipebomb, or similar device containing an explosive, incendiary, or poison gas and includes any frangible container filled with an explosive, incendiary, explosive gas, or expanding gas, which is designed or so constructed as to explode by such filler and is capable of causing bodily harm or property damage; any combination of parts either designed or intended for use in converting any device into a destructive device and from which a destructive device may be readily assembled; any device declared a destructive device by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; any type of weapon which will, is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of any explosive and which has a barrel with a bore of one-half inch or more in diameter; and ammunition for such destructive devices, but not including shotgun shells or any other ammunition designed for use in a firearm other than a destructive device.
I looked to see if there was any information on the weapon, but it seems the Sheriff’s office will not release the information. I get the feeling that either the Pasco County LEOs went overboard or Cletus made a big ass bore pipe gun going over the half-inch, probably a potato gun run by propellant or something that would trigger an ATF agent.
More insight into Ilhan Omar and the Minnesota Muslim Community
BelAhdan is a local PBS show in Minnesota, in the Twin Cities area that is about “Minnesota Middle Eastern community issues and perspectives.”
In an episode hosted by Ahmed Tharwat, then activist Ilhan Omar made some disturbing statements about al Qaeda and Hezbollah.
A recently discovered video shows @IlhanMN mocking Americans for their anxiety about al-Qaeda, equating US armed forces to al-Qaeda and Hezbollah. pic.twitter.com/VBuKhAHjjE

I found the video on YouTube and found an even more disturbing thing to consider about the video.
Ilhan Omar mentions she took a terrorism class in college.
She went to North Dakota State University, and one class there in political science is POLS 120, which is described as:
POLS 120. Terrorism. 3 Credits.
Examination of problems of terrorism. Includes its historical perspectives; terrorist motivations, organizations, tactics, strategies; role of media; government responses; future trends, prospects.
The interviewer, Ahmed Tharwat, then jokes “is there a lab for that?”
Which I interpret as (jokingly) asking “is there a hands on class that teaches you how to commit acts of terrorism?” A prospect he seems very excited about.
Then after she mentions al Qaeda, he asks “what about Israel?”
Which is clearly regarding the idea that both the Muslim world and radical Left love to push that Israel is a terrorist state.
It seems that the leader of the Twin Cities PBS local access show for Muslims is just the English speaking version of the Palestinian Authority’s TV channel.
There is ample evidence of who Omar was before she was elected and more coming out every day.
The Democrats total failure to punish her for her antisemitic remarks have only emboldened her to say more of what she really feels because she is untouchable.
When called out for her disgustingly casual way of referring to 9/11, she made herself the victim.
This is dangerous incitement, given the death threats I face. I hope leaders of both parties will join me in condemning it.
My love and commitment to our country and that of my colleagues should never be in question. We are ALL Americans! pic.twitter.com/foTZMpiZKv

There will be no controlling Omar or her compatriots AOC and Rashida Tlaib.
They have shown their true colors and were not held accountable. They have no reason to hold back anymore.
Not true but it is accurate.
Newsweek is not even bothering to disguise much their left-of-Castro politics and barely dusts a layer of “accuracy” to cover for they cheerleading of the Democrats.
Ms. Owens was “captured” on a recording praising Hitler according to the Left, only to be revealed that it was an edited version of what she had said with a question removed. She was not happy when Senator Lieu (the same one with a donor who appears to be some sort of serial killer) played the recording and then did not bother to give her a chance to respond. It took Senator Reschenthaler to give her a chance and then, fireworks! So in a very roundabout way, Ms. Owens defended herself from the “Hitler comments” question and the President was right on congratulate her, but that was not what the headline tried to convey: “Trump defends Hitler Groupie”
The erosion of trusts in the Media was brought up by themselves when they could not understand they no longer controlled the access of information to the public. Yes, they are loud and yes, they have reach, but amazingly they get to die in the medium to short run because other sources can be accessed and the “news” they published fully examined and criticized if untrue.
I don’t feel bad that newspapers are collapsing and journalists can be found slinging coffee at your local shop. I do not feel bad for the eternally money-losing news divisions of TV networks that have to depend on the ratings of a Sit-Com to have a budget. I believe both will disappear within 20 years if changes are not made, changes that are not complicated but hard to implement and begin with one simple idea: Respect your consumers.
Four words I want to hear: “Iron Law of Bureaucracy.”
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is being attacked by the Left for cutting millions of dollars in federal funding for literacy programs. She says they don’t work and are a waste.
Congressman Josh Harder is being hailed as a hero for criticizing DeVos.
The hypocrisy from @BetsyDeVosED is shocking. She does lots of photo ops reading to kids… but then goes to DC and tries to cut EVERY literacy program. pic.twitter.com/RpjQOAGJSY
— Rep. Josh Harder (@RepJoshHarder) April 10, 2019
I just want to point out something.
In Washington DC, one of the areas fully supported by the federal government, only 17% of students are proficient at reading.
It costs $29,409 to educate one student in DC public schools.
The entire public school education for one student K-12 is upwards of $350,000.
That means, for a 8 out of 10 high school seniors about to graduate, after more than a third of a million dollars of educational benefit over 12 years each, they would struggle to finish a Nancy Drew book.
Perhaps throwing more money at teachers and bureaucrats who fail that badly isn’t the answer.
Maybe there are some places in the country where the issue really is a lack of funding.
I really believe that the issue is school administrators know that if 50% reading proficiency gets them a million dollars in funds, than 25% reading proficiency gets them two million dollars in funds.
I would bank on the 17% of kids who are proficient in reading are only proficient because their parents read with them and they didn’t pick it up in school.
Perhaps the solution would be figuring out where the money went in all the places that got funds and still had reading problems and then putting some administrators in prison.
Government is the only place where you can get a raise and promotion for having an 83% failure rate at the one job you have. The Democrats see that as a feature, DeVos clearly sees that as a bug.
Florida: HB 7059 -OGSR/Concealed Carry License/DACS
OGSR/Concealed Carry License/DACS: Removes scheduled repeal of exemption from public records requirements for certain personal identifying information held by tax collector when individual applies for license to carry concealed weapon or firearm.
Last Event: Bill added to Special Order Calendar (4/17/2019) on Thursday, April 11, 2019 6:32 PM
There is a sunset provision to keep the CWP application records via Tax Collector private and this bill will make the permanently private. Saved a few people who were not present, the bill was approved unanimously by the State Affairs Committee. I do not see them scheduled for another committee so I guess this one goes to the House Floor.
