Florida: Adding Gun Control Amendments to SB 7030: School Safety and Security.

School Safety and Security; Requiring a sheriff to establish a school guardian program under a certain condition; (ETC)

Just popped in my notifications. An amendment by Senator Stewart (Democrat, parts of Mickey Mouse County) and would add questions farther than found in form 4473 which would eventually lead to Florida having to create its own firearms purchase form and the buyer having to fill both:

..questions about the buyer’s criminal history and other information relating to the potential buyer’s or transferee’s eligibility to purchase a firearm.

Of course, we don’t know what that “other information” might be and as we know, generalities are very dangerous. What would make you a prohibited Floridian? Hate crimes like wearing a MAGA hat in Starbucks?  Being a member of the NRA? Refusing to eat pizza with pineapple?

The rest of the amendment covers notification of “nonapproval” to Law Enforcement. What the heck is that “nonapproval” crap? As far as I know, everybody uses “denial” including the ATF. This sounds like somebody from Everytown wrote the amendment and is not familiar with the proper terms.

One thing to take from this is that the other Gun Control bills  are expected to go nowhere and they are trying desperately to tack stuff up on this one. That also means get ready to have more Gun Control amendments tacked into the bill including “Assault Weapons Ban, Magazine Ban, Universal Background Checks and Gun Registration schemes.

Death notifications after Parkland shooting were slow and insensitive, families say – Sun Sentinel.

Among the common concerns in Tuesday’s report to the commission: A lack of communication about where to go, the absence of anyone in charge, disorganization at the Marriott, incorrect information given out to families, the lack of a single point of contact for families and the failure to keep the news media far enough away.

After receiving the news, families said they were given little support. They had been separated physically from friends and family; there were no victims’ advocates there; they didn’t receive from authorities much empathy or information about what to expect over the next few days. Some said they weren’t offered a ride home.

Death notifications after Parkland shooting were slow and insensitive, families say

This article will break your heart. Contrary to what Scott Israel kept proclaiming, BSO was not prepared at all for a Mass Casualty event even though they already had the experience of the Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting. I believe the bosses never gave too much care to learn from mistakes made nor to implement what other Law Enforcement organizations may have done.

I understand that Death Notifications are the hardest things a police officer can ever do in his job. And to notify parents that their kids will never make it hone again has to be the worse. But not to have a prepared line of action and properly trained officers to deal with something like Parkland is simply unacceptable and an indicative of hubris by the leadership: It won’t happen in my watch so,  why should I care?

I heard somewhere that some events are as rare as lightning strike hitting somebody but still somebody is getting hit.

BSO thought they were safe from lighting strikes but it seems Zeus came over and prove them wrong.

Floridians likes Concealed Weapons Licenses

The media has discovered the impending Two Million License Armageddon.

They do not like it much.

Although the overall violent crime rate nationally has been on a downward trend since the 1990s, Florida has been the site of at least seven mass shootings in the past three years.

Nearly 2 million Floridians now have concealed weapons permits, tops in nation

And that has to do what exactly with concealed carry? Sure as hell Nikki Cruz did not have a CWP.

What struck me as interesting were the comments I saw in Facebook. I was expecting the usual flood of “ZOMG! We are gonna die!” and although present, a large majority were in favor and congratulatory of the incoming goalpost. In Twitter there were few replies but almost all favorable.

Contrary to the billions in News spent to say otherwise, Floridians like guns, like the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. We were told also that Floridians hate Stand Your Ground and study after study, poll after poll the results have also said we like our SYG law.

And yet, our State Gun Rights organizations have failed to capitalize on that sentiment. The lies and cover ups that came out the Parkland shooting are slowly oozing out and they are not helping our political enemies. Maybe next session we will be able to revert the laws passed on the paroxysm of “do something!” and bring some real sense into what needs to be done to reduce school crime.

We will end the legislative session in three more weeks and hopefully the avalanche of Gun Control bills will remain in desk drawer hell.

There should be a law

The Washington Post is trying to make Stacy Abrams the next big thing running for President in 2020.

One of the things that strikes me most about Abrams is that she owes more than $200,000 in credit card debt and back taxes.

You can’t run on raising taxes when you can’t even pay your own, well you can, it just makes you even more of an asshole.

So here is the law I propose.

No citizen of the United States of America can run for federal elected office at any level if that person owes back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service of the Unites States.  Furthermore, failure to pay personal income tax in full the year it is due is grounds for immediate expulsion from the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Congress of the United States.”

Simply put, if you can’t pay your own taxes, you can’t make new tax law.

Fuck you, you’re out.

I hope all goes well for this son in Houston

News from Houston, Texas.

One part of the story here that I saw is this:

When the father’s wife and son arrived home, the suspects fled, the report said. As they were fleeing, the son retrieved a gun and shot one of the suspects in the head, reports said.

Ooooo…. that’s not good.

It doesn’t matter if they pistol whip your dad and abuse your sisters in a closet, you can’t shoot them when they are running away.

The wording has varied depending who reports is, the Houston Chronicle describes the encounter this way:

The son grabbed a gun and went around the back to check on his father. Eventually, the son confronted one of the suspects in the street, and a gun battle ensued.

That’s better.

None of the news reports have indicated that no charges will be filed, I guess the police are still investigating.

I don’t know what the details are, so I am not going to armchair lawyer this one right yet.

What I can say with certainty is that Texas is better off with one less home invader in the state.

Also, I hope that the benefit of the doubt falls on the side of the son and not the criminal.  I’d hate to see the son go to jail given the facts that we know right now.

When you are ridiculed long enough: Florida B 1310: Minors Posting Firearms on Social Media. (Pending withdrawal)

Minors Posting Firearms on Social Media; Prohibiting the posting or publishing of a picture of a firearm, BB gun, air or gas-operated gun, or device displayed to resemble a firearm to social media by a minor; prohibiting storing a firearm in such a way that a minor obtains access to it without permission and posts a picture of it on social media; authorizing warrantless arrest when a law enforcement officer has probable cause to believe that a minor has violated a specified provision, etc.
Last Action: 4/10/2019 Senate – Pending withdrawal

Yup, your kid was not going to be able to post a picture of him with his favorite Nerf gun on Instagram without having Law Enforcement bust in your house without needing a warrant and taking everybody to jail.

This is the fascist jackass who thought sending a SWAT team after your toddler for a picture with a toy gun was a good idea. He was the laughing-stock in several media outlets although not in enough of them for my taste.

His district covers parts of the Florida Key, the parts I thought were the nice ones. I guess things have changed down there since the last time I visited.

It was made official at closing of business today:

SB 1310 (2019) Minors Posting Firearms on Social Media
SENATE – Withdrawn from Judiciary; Criminal Justice; Rules
SENATE – Withdrawn from further consideration

I have found proof positive of Climate Change

At least according to Alejandrita Ocasio’s tweet:

So the reason almost 3 million Venezuelans have left the country is not because but actually Climate Change.

Please allow me to introduce to you Capitán Climate Change and his sidekick  Chief Melting Glacier.

PS: I figured this is too good not to meme.
