.458 SOCOM does pack a punch.

The BiL gift finally came together last weekend when Oleg Volk gave me some of his stock of ,458 ammo (which apparently there is NONE in Middle TN) and I ran a function test on the animal. The final configuration was a Palmetto State lower and a Bear Creek Arsenal upper which was given a many fine review for what it cost. The bitch has been magazines, but mostly my stubbornness of trying to use Magpuls with dedicated followers. I was too trusty and ordered two from an online retailer who promised they would fit but didn’t without lot of file work. I ended up using GI mags but have troubles feeding reliably. I am gonna tweak the followers some more or simply eat the expense and buy a couple of truly dedicated (and expensive) 458 mags.

5.56 v .458 SOCOM

OK, long story short: I took the rifle and the ammo to Oleg’s range and shot several rounds testing the gun which went bang but with feeding issues from the mags. I segregated the one mag giving me crap and used the other one in controlled and aimed shooting some 60 yards to a steel silhouette. First shot rang and shook the target like Vulcan himself used his hammer on it. The second one simply took down the whole set up in spectacular way. With a mixture of elation and horror, I realized I frigging killed that steel apparently by shaking the spikes out of its base halfway out with the first shot and collapsed it with the second. I had a devil of the time trying to stand and keep the darn thing back up.

As for the recoil, as expected was bigger than with 5.56, but very controllable and not uncomfortable.

Later I checked the ballistics of the round and I am impressed: 300 grain Hornady hollow point at some 1,850 fps will most definitely make for a memorable and final impression on its target. But at over $2.60 per round of the good stuff, it makes for a non-plinking long gun.

Now I have the hankering of having my own .458 SOCOM, but I will hold till I get all the necessary stuff for reloading it. Plus, I am not experienced on bottleneck reloading and I want to make sure I know what I am doing. But before all that, I owe the missus an AR-base 9mm pistol and I don’t want her mad at me. And I am eyeing a 7-inch upper that weighs next to nothing and I want to see which part of my body I will need to trade for it.

I recall the words of Stephen Hunter about sticking an AR in the safe, lock it and before you realize it, it somehow managed to multiply.

Fuck New York

Jews should not have to hide because the Palestinian terrorist supporters are having a field day.

Jews should be allowed to be armed to the fucking teeth and the State of New York should be protecting innocent people from terrorism.

To tell the Jews to hide on the Sabbath is fucking disgusting.

Fuck the State of New York.

“And sometimes, you just have to pick civilization.”

And sometimes, you just have to pick civilization. Your civilization. The one that still does more tangible, philanthropic good for more Muslims around the world, than almost any Muslim country. While at the same time staunchly guaranteeing the right of the Jewish state (and therefore the Jews themselves) to exist.

Da’esh weren’t an imminent threat to the United States. Da’esh were a threat to Muslims of the Levant. Many of those same ISIS men fled to new ground, like Gaza, when their caliphate failed. And they still talk the same talk about Islamic theocracy. And promise the same death to Jews, Christians, any Muslims who won’t obediently get in line, etc.

Almost every Muslim nation in the Levant knows these cretins are a disaster for anyone who trucks with them. Even Iran wouldn’t want anything to do with them except Iran sees them as effective proxy fighters against the people Iran’s leadership already hates. While Iran continues to oppress its own people.

There is no gain in appeasing the jihad. Doesn’t matter how the jihad cloaks itself in righteousness, claiming to fight for freedom, while beheading toddlers and raping concert-goers. And there is no wisdom in ignoring the jihad, pretending that if we somehow keep our noses out of it the jihad will magically pass us by, or stop caring.

That’s not how this works. Because the whole point of the jihad is to never leave us alone. Not America. And not any other liberal Western nation, either.

And we have to understand and accept that a lot of countries and cultures in the world cannot and will not adapt to our values. Individual rights are simply a concept they are unable to comprehend and much less learn. It is like trying to teach colors to somebody who was born blind and deaf.

And unfortunately, some of those cultures, especially the violent ones only understand superior power and deadly consequences: If you are stronger and have no problem applying that power, then they will not mess around with you. We as a country can start by eliminating the idea of Nation Re-Building after a conflict: Let them spend decades picking up ruble and rebuilding infrastructure on their own without any help from us. Teach them, deadly if necessary that actions have consequences.

Israel and the border is gonna make ammo prices stupid again

An announcement from SG Ammo:

We have seen a massive spike in demand this past 5 days, with double ‘normal’ sales Saturday and Sunday, then triple normal on Monday, quadruple on Tuesday, and today is way up as well, when it will slow down is hard to say at this point as demand seems to continue to rise. If order volume continues to overwhelm the warehouse crew’s capacity to fill orders over the next few days we will have to make choices on how we reduce volume, which could involve increasing prices 5% to 15%, limiting selection to cases only, removing popular ammo options that are sold at extremely low profit margins from the website menu, minimum $$ orders, etc, all of which are highly unpopular with segments of out customer base, but necessary to maintain synchronization of warehouse capacity with order volume. We guarantee the advertised price in this email until noon CST on October 12th or while supplies last, however prices are subject to change after that. In my course of many conversations with clients, I commonly see that there is wide spread misunderstanding of ‘how it works’ in the ammo business, which is understandable because it takes decades of experience to learn the deeper details, and even then, there are always surprises along the way. One thing that a lot of people do not know is that the ammunition business is a fear-driven market, not consumption driven. Fear leads to stockpiling and hording beyond manufacturing’s capacity, which leads to shortages and price increases. This also strains capacity within the distribution system, and price increases are commonly used to slow down order volume while maintaining profitability. The masses react to scares of various types, driving demand up quickly, sharply and almost instantly, within minutes to hours of a disaster, swarming ammo suppliers like us with abnormally large order volume. Such is the case this week in reaction to the Israel – Palestine conflict, where sales skyrocketed Saturday morning and remained at double to quadruple ‘normal’ order volume since then. How long this sort of elevation of demand lasts varies and depends greatly on ‘aftershocks’, as in shocking events that drive additional fear in the wake of what happened just before. It take a series of events to drive the market way up like it was in 2013, or 2020 and 2021, and a single event typically will not do it alone. That said, should a series of shocking events unfold, this could drive the market up in a substantial way. I have seen people on the gun forums often make fun of the people who ‘panic buy’ the day of the disaster, however in my observations over the years, the people that buy in the first hours or few days of the panic beat the potential price increases and almost always come out ahead of those that wait and buy later in the short term, especially if the market prices are down at the time of the panic like they are these days. In my opinion, the market prices could turn back up so quickly and go up so far, that it is a safe to say it is a great time to buy ammo these days. Prices have come substantially from their peaks in 2021, and while it is always possible that they go slightly lower, there is currently a lot more room to go up which can happen in what seems like the blink of an eye. Stack it deep while it is selling cheap!! We have tons of low cost ammo options in stock so you can be ready for your next trip to the range, including all the popular calibers and with FREE SHIPPING on orders over $200. It would be wise to make your purchases while the market cycle is slow, profit margins are in the mid single digits and before demand elevates. With supply up and prices down, it is currently the best time to buy ammo that we have seen in the past 3 and a half years. We have discount prices on bulk ammo in stock with fast order processing, secure shipment packaging and free shipping on any order with over $200 worth of product, making for a more straight forward transaction without expensive surprises in checkout. We thank you for your support of our family owned and operated business, please stay subscribed for future SGAmmo newsletters. He’s not wrong.

We watched as Israel experienced the worst terrorist attack since 9/11 as thousands of Hamas breeched their border.

Simultaneously, Americans have been watching since the beginning of the Biden administration as millions of military age males poured over our border with no checks to see who they are.

Putting two plus two together and coming up with there being a chance that the US could see border related terrorism and violence wasn’t hard to do.

Americans responded in a uniquely American way, buy buying a shitload of ammo.

I don’t see this slowing down any time soon.
