SB 2912 and matching HB 2032:

Firearms and Ammunition – As introduced, removes the offense of possessing a weapon in a building that prohibits or restricts weapons; allows a person with an enhanced handgun carry permit to carry a handgun into a business that prohibits or restricts weapons; removes penalties for violations of certain firearms provisions. – Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.

I have long ago ceased to be all childish giggly at good gun bills till the governor signs it. But the fact that this particular one is moving, has a companion bill in the House and has picked up sponsors makes me at least a little wishful.

And yes, there will be those on our side that will crap on this bill because it does not eliminate the GFZs altogether and will refuse to support the effort to which the Gun Control Advocates will like to thank in advance.

  1. Good bill.
If it does nothing aside from remove any criminal penalty for accidentally crossing over a line (or having a school bus pull up at the park) it will be a step in the right direction.

  2. I’ve never understood all the “pro-gun” folks willing to oppose a good bill because it’s not perfect. Yes, we all know that Gun Free Zones are unconstitutional and should be eliminated, but a bill that reduces Gun Free Zones, reduces their severity, etc., is A Good Thing even if it doesn’t completely eliminate them.
    .
We lost our rights incrementally; every baby step the anti-gunners made was used as a new foothold for the next step. We’ll have to gain them back the same way. We’re never going to get perfect bills — waiting on perfection is a losing strategy — so any step in the right direction deserves our full support.
    .
Ever want to slap these people and remind them of all that? Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good!

  3. your last paragraph of this post is why I am deeply disappointed with the “gun crowd”…. many need to learn from the anti gun crowd- every little tiny infringement they get is (to them) a major victory…. keep us posted Sir
