Federal authorities are accusing a Dearborn Heights man of supporting Islamic State extremists and planning to “shoot up” a Detroit church.Khalil Abu-Rayyan, 21, hasn’t been charged with terrorism-related crimes but faces federal charges of illegally having a firearm while using a controlled substance. But a complaint unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court reveals the FBI has been investigating him since May “regarding increasingly violent threats he has made to others about committing acts of terror and martyrdom — including brutal acts against police officers, churchgoers and others — on behalf of the foreign terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.”

And I just quote from the criminal complaint:
Church Carry is nothing new, in fact it dates back to Colonial Times. But what amazes me is that a simple train of thought (Church +Lots of people + No guns = Mass Casualties) was easily understood by a wannabe Jihadist, but it is somehow a dark and complicated concept for many others who insist a House of Worship comes with a magical force field that will protect everybody from Evil.
It is a deadly belief.
It isn’t illegal to carry in a church in Minnesota, but rather its up to the individual church. Just like other private property.
Same in Ohio. I’ve been waiting for this to happen. Once it does it will spread like crazy. My wife always asks me why I carry to church…and this is why!!!
In Michigan (where this is) it’s similar that the church decides, but it’s not like other private property in that it’s considered illegal by default to carry concealed until you’re told you can by the church (which is obviously opposite of how it works with most private property).
It’s actually still legal to open carry there for CPL holders. The downside being that it’s private property so they can ask anyone to leave for any reason, and open carrying would probably get you asked to leave from most churches.
So yeah, it might as well just be considered illegal unless you happen to be close personal friends with the priest.
Or you could just ask. That’s what I do. The church’s response tells me a lot. Fortunately I’ve been attending a good church for a while.
Btw, I live in Metro Detroit and work in Dearborn Heights. This mook might have had a different outcome than he thought. Lots of people armed here, even in churches.
Good old Dearborn. Home of Greenfield village and the Henry Ford Museum. Now it’s been taken over by the muzzies and their jihad attitude.
Any church that forbids it is not worth attending. God loves innocent life and a GFZ policy is truly evil.
