The latest is the case of 84 year old Stephen Nichols (Korean vet, former cop and now a school crossing guard) where a waitress overhead something, took it out of context and ended up with cops going to his place, seize his guns and his license to carry, a license he has had since 1958 without a blemish apparently.
Then we have cases down here in Florida where a 91 year old man was Red Flagged for also making a comment about “even the score” with his late wife (yes, she was already dead) and an 8 year old who threw a hissy fit at school, ran his mouth and threatened to shoot everybody.
No mistake these are things that should have never happened. This willful abuse of half the Bill of Rights is precisely what the Red Flags wanted to achieve. At the same time, it is providing to be the biggest ammunition to destroy the stupid laws. Either taken to court or to the legislatures to shame the state congresscritters into rewriting the laws so they can actually be useful (in the case of Florida, to revert back to the damned good law we had prior to the Parkland Shooting) and come up with an alternative that protects both individual rights and the safety of the people from truly dangerous individuals.
And the bulk of ammunition will be provided by California after its governor just signed into law a new version of Red Flag which allows almost anybody with a grudge to have you legally SWATted. Double the “joy” if the swatted individual does not own guns. You sew, most people believe that only gun owners will be targeted and that they are not gonna have to suffer from having their homes raided by cops. It is gonna be an awfully nasty surprise when they figure out that a tool of abuse will be equally used against the populace regardless of the propaganda they gave you to so they could get your support.
This is not a silver lining post, this is more like “If Life gives you lemons, stab it the gut and shove lemon pieces into the open wound till it develops peritonitis.”
Actually, I am looking forward to it. There are whole lists of people who need to be red-flagged. And since it is both a) anonymous & b) no penalty for false reporting, I’m thinking there are plenty of targets on the left that need to be red-flagged. The fact that they helped to write the law is irrelevant. The fact that they helped to pass the law is irrelevant. The fact that they are there to prosecute the law is irrelevant. The fact that they are there to enforce the law is irrelevant. Red flags for everyone!
Two can play at this game, especially when they set the rules so open and vague.
