Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) relaxed the city’s mask mandate on Friday. Bowser’s updated guidance said that fully vaccinated individuals did not have to wear masks while gathering indoors or outdoors in most situations, though business owners had the option to require proof of vaccination.
Bowser quickly backtracked on the mask guidance, less than 24 hours after relaxing the mandate. Fully vaccinated individuals now must wear masks inside, despite guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that indicates otherwise. Businesses in the district still have the option to require vaccine passports, to verify proof of vaccination, but individuals will be forced to wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
DC Mayor Backtracks on Rescinding Indoor Mask Mandate
I wonder who cracked the whip and told her she was not to abandon the mandate of her superiors.
And they want to make the fetid sinkhole a state?
This has been the pattern in Oregon, too.
They claim we’ll “follow the science”, but the unwritten guideline seems to be this: “If the new ‘science’ supports more restrictions, we’ll do that. If the new ‘science’ supports easing restrictions, we’ll stick with the old ‘science’, thanks.”
Also, the guidelines for reopening are couched in such vague terms that they’re meaningless: “Solid majority vaccinated.” “Easy access to vaccines.” “Hospital capacity/staff adequate.”
What kind of majority is “solid”? How “easy” does vaccine access need to be? What level of hospital staffing/capacity is “adequate”?
They won’t say, because hard-and-fast metrics are goals we can reach, and then there are no excuses for not reopening. So instead, we have fungible metrics and mobile-by-design goalposts.
Yesterday’s Fox News 6 pm report (forgot what that is called) reported that back last summer the AFT colluded with the CDC to keep school opening restrictions in place.
I’ve been calling them “malingerers” since last summer, and I intend to keep doing so.
