Too many people read it as a “how to” manual.
Exactly- they saw it as a set of instructions. Look at where we are now.
To paraphrase some immortal words: The novel 1984 was supposed to be a warning, NOT a ‘How-To’ manual……
The “1984” model of tyranny is unworkable- East Germany tried it, and collapsed from exhaustion. But, the other classic lit tyranny is becoming more and more likely, and this one would be most difficult to shake.
I’m speaking of the happy, fun tyranny of “Brave New World”.
