Copper and aluminum

I have a decent stock of copper jacketed bullets, but just in case I also have all the necessary means and material to cast my own. But if you are going with fast boolits in lead, you are gonna need gas checks to avoid excessive fouling of the barrel. I learned the hard way during  match where I was keyholing targets a 10 yards.  And when I got home, I had a nice long session cleaning up the barrel of the pistol. There is always going to be some fouling, but without gas checks it simply is a dangerous mess.

  1. I’ve heard you can powder coat lead bullets to prevent leading to good effect. Harbor Freight powder coat mix can be had pretty cheap.

  2. with cast bullets, subsonic is your friend. It helps of you have a heavy. 45 bullet. All the energy with less velocity. IMHO…

  3. BTW, MidwayUSA – for now – has some Federal overrun primed brass in .45ACP +P, 5.56×45, .223Rem, .38 Special +P, and I think one or two others.
