12 ga makes a pretty good “jammer” – after you blast the drone you “jam” the 12 up the operators niether reagion and rack one… after awhile it will sink in that fukkin around with airports aint a good idea…. America is getting dumber by the second…
The problem with jamming “drone frequencies” is they use spread-spectrum technology, and traditional jamming is a waste of time and power.
AND any drone sold in the last year or so comes with “RemoteID” — a module that transmits the drone’s identity, point of origin, and some flight information. The FAA claimed it was a short-range broadcast, but have contracted with a company to install regional receivers to collect the data.
Sure, there are plenty of older drones, but many of them will get RemoteID with firmware updates soon(TM).
What you’re SUPPOSED to do, as a law-abiding drone pilot, is put an “add-on module” on your drone that transmits a limited RemoteID message. The FAA initially claimed those modules would cost $50, but the only ones available are $150-200 a piece, and there’s a six month backlog.
As for shooting one down — sure, if the FAA makes that determination. Don’t do it yourself, because it’s a federal crime.
