Not entitled to your own facts

Donald Trump Jr. posted an image on his Twitter feed about a bowl full of Skittles and Syrian Refugees.

skittles-trump-2

The Left has gone to task taking it apart, calling it bigoted and even – ironically – antisemitic.

Some on the Right have tried to remind the Left that SJW Feminists used the same logic, but with M&Ms, to brand men as rapists in the #YesAllWomen campaign, and are therefore hypocrites.

I don’t know what percent of refugees are terrorists.  I don’t know how well the vetting process the US has put in place will defend us from terrorist trying to hide among refugees.  What I do know is that the great Democrat Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan said: “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.”

So based on two rigorous international polls, I have put together my own Skittles/Refugee image that addressees my  concerns in as factually accurate a way possible.

Enjoy

Bloomberg and the Young Turks

So the mainstream media has picked up and reported on a study that was released to The Trace that only 3% of Americans own half of US guns.

Note: when your first publication of your study is the Bloomberg backed anti-gun propaganda outlet, The Trace, it makes me question your objectivity.  It’s like publishing a paper on how Veganism cures cancer in the PETA magazine.

According to the study, 78% of Americans don’t own guns, 19% own the first half of all US guns, and 3% own the other half of all US guns.  Those of us in the 3% are “hard core super owners” which is a title I will totally own with pride.  I want that on a T-Shirt.

I really doubt the validity of this study.  So why publish something straight to an anti-gun publication that stinks of being false.  Well… I’ll let the people at Everytown demonstrate.

They posted the study on their Facebook page.

3per1

And these were some of the comments.

First came the small penis mockery.  Let’s call that what it is: dehumanization.

3per2

Next, let’s question their loyalty to the US and just how much of a threat they are to non group member citizens.

3per3

Lastly, let’s encourage putting them into ghettos or on reservations and systematically oppress them with government force.

3per6

3per5

3per4

There you have it.  Why try and push the idea that there is a super dangerous minority that doesn’t hold or share the values of the “good” majority?  Because history has demonstrated pretty clearly that this is what it takes to get the “good” majority to jump on the oppress the others bandwagon.  Jews in Germany, France, and Poland.  Armenians in Turkey.  Irish in the UK.  Natives in the US and Canada. Etc.

Tell the “good” people at Everytown that only 3% of people are super gun owners and they will trip over themselves to dehumanize and call for the ghettoization and oppression of that small minority of “other” fellow citizens.

And they wonder why we are so militant sometimes.  This is why.  We are the Armenians to their Young Turks.  Give them a chance to put the boot in the face of gun owners and they line up and call dibs.

Fear and Loathing in Charlotte

I’ve been following the news and distortions of what has been happening in Charlotte.  So far, I think the worst article I’ve read is from the Daily Mail‘He was allowed to drive away alive’: White motorist armed with a GUN is filmed driving slowly through crowd of protesters in Charlotte.

What unfolded in situation covered in this article is important considering all the other discussion about what to do if you find yourself in a car surrounded by violent protesters.  The Daily Mail covered the account as described by the writer Heather Head.

White dude drives into crowd of peaceful protesters, draws gun, allowed to drive away alive. With my own eyes. #CharlotteProtest,’ she wrote alongside the shocking clip.

There are some details that watching the video (in the Daily Mail article) that this terrible assessment fails to cover.  First and foremost, the protesters were not “peaceful” by any means.  I am not a lawyer, but shouting “no justice, no peace” in the middle of a riot is prima facie evidence that they are not peaceful.  The protesters had advanced on the man in his car and surrounded it.  Some people were actually pounding on the car.

The Daily Mail admits to all this but doesn’t seem to acknowledge what it means: ‘No justice, no peace,’ the group are heard chanting before they spot the man’s weapon.

It is at that point the gun come out.  INSTANTLY the situation changes.  The once aggressive protesters back away from the car as one yells “he’s got a gun.”  You can see phones come out and record the man in the car with the gun.  The attitude of the protesters suddenly shifts to crybully victim.  They were fine being the ones in power, being aggressive and threatening.  The second they found out that their intended victim was willing to fight back, they decided it wasn’t fair.

The Daily Mail then proceeds to make some statements that are deliberately inflaming and a distortion of reality.

The man was reportedly allowed to drive away from the scene.

Allowed to drive away by who?  The police?  I didn’t see a single cop anywhere in that scene.  I’m pretty sure most of them were busy else where controlling a riot.  Should the police have detained the man?  How about the rioters?  They “allowed” him to drive away, but they had no authority to keep him from driving away in the first place.  By blocking his leaving the scene, they were engaged in criminal activity.

Although open carry is legal in North Carolina, it is illegal to openly carry a gun at a protest.  The law states:  ‘You may not carry a weapon at a parade, funeral procession, picket line, or other demonstration, except for guns carried on a rack in a pickup truck.   ‘You may not carry a weapon during civil disorder, riot, or other disturbance involving three or more people.’

That is true, not just in NC, but in most states.  The idea being, you can’t take a gun to a riot.  Makes sense.  But this is irrelevant if the riot comes to you.  I don’t know all the facts about what happened here, but from everything else I read about how many other people were trapped in cars surrounded by protesters; I am going to assume that this man was trying to get away from the protest and was not part of it.  If that is the case, he didn’t go to the protest with a gun.  He had a gun and the protest found him.

‘I wish no ill on anyone. I just want the truth out. I want people to recognize that racism exists, it’s real, and it has real consequences.’ [Heather Head]

So racism is the reason this man did what he did?  Not wanting to become the Charlotte version of Reginald Denny wasn’t it?  It is now racist to not want to be beat, perhaps to death, by rioting BLM activists?  I severely doubt that “you are a racist for not letting a black man vent his anger from a history of systematic oppression by kicking in your skull” will fly as an argument for all but the most ardent progressives.

This happened the same night and not far from where the “white man in a car with a gun” incident occurred (original video is unavailable):

Some might argue that what the guy in the car did was brandishing, and therefore illegal.  Given the circumstances, I think (again, I’m not a lawyer and I’m not giving advice) was the best possible outcome.  The way I see it.  The threat to the man was real.  Had he followed Glenn Reynolds advice, people would have gotten hurt.

reynolds

This way, the man got away without anybody being injured or killed, except maybe for some crybully butt-hurt.  The presence of the gun deescalated the situation by making the rioters back off.

I think the only thing that the man did that was wrong was to stick the gun out the window.  That increased the risk it could have been taken from him.  I would have kept my window up in that situation.  Then again, my windows aren’t tinted.

This was (again, I’m not a lawyer) a valid defensive gun use, even though no shots were fired.  A potentially deadly situation was averted.  But of course, the media can’t spin in like that.

Personally, I’d rather have to flash my piece from inside my truck than have to power wash rioter off of a winch bumper.

Charlotte Kerfuffle

Keith Lamont Scott was shot by a cop in Charlotte, NC.  The police say he had a gun.   His family says he had a book.  Not a lot of information has been released, so I am not going to comment on the shooting.

I am going to comment on INSANE reaction to it.

First, over at the Moms Demand Action Facebook page:

charlotte-6

Wait?  Does “gun violence” now include police shootings?  I thought that only police should be allowed to have and carry guns?  So are police now part of the gun violence problem?  Getting confused.

charlotte-1

Let’s be clear on what open carry is and is not.  I am not a fan of open carry, but it is the law in some states.  If it stays in your holster, we’re cool.  If it comes out of your holster, it better be for a very good reason.  Having a gun in your hand is not open carry.

Officers approached Scott after he got back into the car. He emerged from the car again armed with a firearm “and posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers, who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject,” police said in a statement.

These little details are important.  Thank you Rita Margolies for adding some more racial animus to this case.  There wasn’t enough already, glad you could add something totally unhelpful.

charlotte-5

I can only assume that “Uncle Tom” is a reference to the black Charlotte Chief of Police, who is trying to keep a city in order.  It’s good to know that Gillian Kira Lyoness is a far left win, Trump hating, progressive liberal, otherwise being a beat-up old bag of a nasty white woman using a racist slur against a black man would be … racist.

charlotte-2

Ah, the “I don’t know how guns work” opinion.

This is were things really started to slide for me.  These were only a few examples of posts from the Moms Demand Action page that condoned or borderline justified riots against the police.  The police were described as racist and murderers.  This is by members of an organization that has consistently said that only the police and military should be allowed to carry guns in public, and argument that I have not seen any of them walk back.

What I am starting to see is a very serious case of Doublethink developing among the ranks of the anti gun left:

The police are racist murderers, who abuse their power to kill innocent black men and are not held accountable for it and need more training in how to disarm people without lethal force, but they are the only people professional and trained well enough to be allowed to carry guns in public and should be empowered with unconstitutional authority to take law abiding citizens guns away.

Or

Cops are evil, racist pigs when they kill armed black men in self defense.  But cops are avenging angels of virtue when they kill law abiding citizen “ammosexuals” in Liberal disarmament fantasies.

It would almost be humorous to watch a group like MDA fall apart and its message diluted as it became more and more consumed by social justice.  Except SJW types are even more dangerous.  “Social Justice” as come to mean “hurt everybody that disagrees with me.”  Their moral compass always points to wrong.

Update:  Speaking of dangerous SJW types.  Apparently the best way to protest the killing of a black man at the hands of the police is to riot and kill another civilian.

Be Prepared

I saw these two tweets, one by Vox and the other by Politico, trying to downplay terrorism in NYC.

vox-dumb

politico-dumb

These tweets are practically the definition of surrender.  Don’t try and convince me that I should accept regular acts of terrorism in NYC as the new normal.

As a Florida native, let me tell you how I interpret these tweets.

I am a veteran of Hurricane Andrew.  If Terrorism is to NYC as Hurricanes are to Miami, than Hurricane Andrew was our 9/11.  It was a watershed moment in South Florida history that changed the way people thought and acted.  Even people who were born in or moved to Miami after Andrew know about Andrew.

We didn’t just accept our city being wiped of the map as the new normal.   We changed all of our building codes.  We put in all new breakwaters and canals.  Most importantly, the people got prepared.

When hurricane season approaches, people start storing gallons of bottled water in their homes.  Nobody lets their tank get to less than half full.  Generators are tested.  Big trees get cut down.  Hurricane shutters go up.  Stores start to run low on batteries and flashlights as everybody starts stockpiling.

It doesn’t matter how small the chance is that another Andrew with blow through South Florida, we will be ready when it does.  We’re not freaking out.  We’re just prepared.

So if I extrapolate that to NYC and terrorism, what I know is that I should:

  1. Have a fighting pistol on me at all times, with at least two reloads.
  2. Bug out bag with an AR, spare rifle mags, knife, flashlight, first aid/trauma kit, and maybe even some AR500 plate armor stashed at both my work and in my car.
  3. When the terror watch list goes to Orange, burn up my carry ammo at the range to check for zero, clean my gun, oil it, and load it up with fresh carry ammo.
  4. Always have a fighting pistol on me at all times.

That’s not freaking out, that’s being prepared.

But for some reason, I think being equipped like that, would freak out the Quislings over at Vox and Politico.

Update: my post wasn’t to list what I’d carry in NYC.  I know NYC is a lost cause of forced government depentcy and learned helplessness  (you are banned from being self reliant even if you want to be).  My was we are seeing attacks across the country in that used to happen only in NYC, e.g., Orlando, Minneapolis, Arkansas,  etc.  If nation wide domestic terrorism is the new normal I will respond with being a prepper as my new normal.  I don’t live where we have CCTVZ cameras on every corner.  Just because I move out of Miami doesn’t mean I’ve stopped storing a weeks worth of water and batteries.

Peak stupid

Yesterday, Chris Hayes responded to bombings in New York and New Jersey this way:

hayes-stupid

Chris Hayes raised the bar on stupid things said online about guns.  This sent Everytown into a tizzy.  Nobody is allowed to say something stupider about guns than a Bloomberg backed group and so they had to up the ante.

everytown-peak

What began as an act of terror ENDED IN GUN VIOLENCE!!!  Terror is so passe.  Who cares about a bomb that inured 25 people.  The real problem is guns and that America doesn’t stop terror suspects from buying guns.

Ahmad Rahami may not have been on the terror watch list, or even the no-fly list, seeing as how he traveled to Afghanistan multiple times before the bombing.  We also don’t yet know hoe he got the gun.  But OH MY GOD, GUNS ARE WORSE THAN TERRORISM.

This has to be peak stupid.  This has to be the point at which gun control groups jump the shark.  There is no way that “so what, he blew more than two dozen people up, motivated by an extreme ideology, and the government couldn’t stop him, the real problem is guns.”

If your first response to an act of terror is “He used a bomb!?!  How do we spin this for gun control?”  You are an awful, evil person, and you just need to step away from commenting on politics.

Gotta win somehow

Missouri just became the 11th state in the Union that has Constitutional Carry.  All 50 states now have some sort of concealed carry law on the books after Illinois lost Moore v. Madigan.

Gun control groups thought that Sandy Hook would finally be the Reichstag Fire that gave them carte blanche to impose broad sweeping gun bans and regulations.  Instead, Americans have responded by making month after month record gun sales.

Gun control is all but a dead issue in Congress.  Despite, or perhaps because of,  the efforts of Michael Bloomberg, gun control has had no national wins and few state wins outside of the “blue zones” of NY, NJ, MA, and CA.  The more the gun control movement opens its mouth, the more it embarrasses itself.

After every domestic terrorist attack, gun control advocates push for more gun control, claiming that will save us.  The American people have seen through the BS of gun control groups and Leftists politicians by responding to every terrorist attack by buying guns and getting permits to carry them in public.  A large and growing number of Americans have realized that the politicians that can’t even say “Islamic terrorism” have no hope of preventing Islamic terrorism, and that the American people must defend themselves*.

*See:Crossroads Mall Shooting.

Gun control is losing.  They need a victory.  If the can’t get one in real life they are going to make one up.

Enter Miss Sloane.  This is a movie, apparently, about a take-no-prisoners, ball-busting, lobbyist Elizabeth Sloane, who is going to score a big win for gun control by passing “reasonable gun control”  (probably a complete assault weapons and handgun ban) against the (probably evil, misogynistic, and racist) movie stand in for the NRA.

Everything in the movie will be a lie.  Gun rights advocated will be portrayed in the worst light possible.  Gun control petty tyrants will all be sympathetic characters.  And Sloane will find personal redemption fighting for a worthy cause.

*Update: based on clokworkgremlin’s comments and a fraction of a second worth of footage in the trailer I missed the first time, I am going to bet that some fanatical gun rights supporter is going to shoot and possibly kill Miss Sloane – because that has never happened in real life but anti gunners are always saying that they are being threatened by us because we are unhinged borderline murderers – and that instead of being a redemption movie, it is a tragedy.

This will be a two hour turd and box office flop, that the critics will love for being the gun hating Leftist wet dream.
