I saw AWA’s post on a Democrat Senator who wants to impose a 21% tax on oil profits.

Their justification is anti-price gouging.

Before I saw his post I saw this story at Fox Business:

Biden threatens oil companies with ’emergency powers’ if they don’t boost supply amid inflation spike

President Biden may resort to using emergency powers if American oil companies don’t increase output at their refineries, the president told oil CEOs in a series of letters Wednesday.

Biden’s statement blames oil companies for running “historically high profit margins” even as Americans experience surging gas prices. Biden has recently faced criticism for a lack of executive action aimed at curbing inflation.

“There is no question that Vladimir Putin is principally responsible for the intense financial pain the American people and their families are bearing,” Biden wrote. “But amid a war that has raised gasoline prices more than $1.70 per gallon, historically high refinery profit margins are worsening that pain.”

“Your companies and others have an opportunity to take immediate actions to increase the supply of gasoline, diesel and other refined product you are producing,” he continued. “My administration is prepared to use all reasonable and appropriate Federal Government tools and emergency authorities to increase refinery capacity and output in the near term, and to ensure that every region of this country is appropriately supplied.”

I don’t know if Democrats actually believe this or just use it as a talking point for the masses but it’s clear that their narrative is that the oil and gas industry is sitting on huge supplies of crude and massive amounts of production capacity but are throttling supply to drive up prices to maximize their profits.

Of course, for this to work all the oil and gas companies – including overseas oil companies – must be in cahoots operating as an illegal cartel.

Reality it completely different.

The biggest problem is that the US is closing refineries.

There were several reasons for this.

COVID shutdowns reduced demand for gas.  Refineries closed and now are not easily turned back on.

Environmental regulations make it difficult to impossible to upgrade capacity of existing refineries or build new ones.

The Democrats’ push away from gas dissuades investors from investing in refinery construction or upgrades.  If states will ban gasoline in 10 years why invest in building a refinery that won’t be profitable for 20 years?

Refineries are currently running at about 95% capacity, which is maximum safe capacity.

There is no more capacity to kick in.

The growth of China, India, and other countries means were competing for overseas refined product.

The analogy is a draft horse pulling a wagon that is too heavy as fast as it can, and Biden threatening to beat it harder if it does pull faster and Democrat Senator threatening to take 21% of its food away as punishment.

Add to this that the Biden Administration has canceled drilling leases in New Mexico, Alaska, and offshore.

So what will Biden do?

He won’t reverse his drilling ban or cut back EPA regulations or encourage long-term investment in oil and gas.

The fact is that it doesn’t matter if they really believe their narrative or not, they do not understand what the problem is and their actions will destroy the petroleum industry, and that’s the point.

We will feel it here.

I believe they are banking on Democrat Privilege – being judged on intentions and not results – to save them.

They will be praised as “doing something for working Americans” while driving gas past $10/gal, and letting the petroleum industry catch the blame.

I’m legitimately shocked.

I never would have guessed that historically purple state Ohio would go Constitutional Carry.

If Ohio can swing it just about any Shall Issue state (except Illinois) can do this.

This one feels like a game changer to me.

I had to, I had not choice.

Philadelphia is one of my favorite movies.

It is one of the best legal dramas ever made, and one of the very few ones that doesn’t have rape or murder as its central legal issue.

I honestly stack it up as the To Kill a Mockingbird of its era as a legal drama with civil rights as the core plot point.

Tam Hanks did a fantastic job in that film.

This bullshit from Hanks about it no longer being acceptable for a straight actor to play a gay character is both a shame and something that feels like he’s trying to keep himself and Philadelphia from getting canceled.

Hanks should have more spine than this.

Fuck Hollywood and fuck Hanks if they can’t defend a great movie from an ignorant and destructive ideology of identitarianism.

Refineries, microchip manufacturing plants, fertilizer plants, ore smelters, pharmaceutical plants, all of these are critical to the survival of a nation.

We have shut them down and outsourced supply overseas, often from countries that hate us.

Despite what you may have been told, American wages were not the deciding factor.  Environmental regulations largely killed these industries.

Even as our technology got cleaners, the mental image in the popular culture of the factory belching pollution, destroying the environment, persisted.

Generations raised on The Lorax and Captain Planet made us dependent on foreign nations out of ignorance.

We need these capabilities here.  It is a matter of strategic preparation.

Under my administration every EPA employee will be fired, companies will be encouraged to build critical manufacturing and processing plants in the US, and it will be legal to hire Pinkertons to beat up environmental protesters.

I’m going to make gas $1.59 again, even if I have to have a mercenary beat a hippy to death to do it.

I took a good ling time but the realization has struck too many people that you need to enforce the law or society comes apart.  The Woke prosecutors may say things that sound like they have the best and most noble intentions but in practice everything goes to shit.

Yes, you and I know that it was always going to go to shit under them but Liberal/Leftist privilege means being judged on your words and not your actions.

On Tuesday, San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin was recalled by the voters of San Francisco.  Under his radical Leftist watch, crime was not adequately prosecuted, criminals were let go with little to no punishment, and crime exploded, resulting in a significant decrease in quality of life for residents.

Loudoun County is in many ways the San Francisco of the East Coast.  A very Liberal/Leftist enclave seemingly governed entirely by Woke ideology and not reality.

Loudoun County has been in the news recently for things like transgender school politics that resulted in a rape and the school covering it up.

Loudoun County has their own Chesa Boudin, a woman named Buta Biberaj.

A judge just disqualified Biberaj on a case for lying to the court in order to get a serial burglar a low plea deal.

Loudoun County judge removes Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office from criminal case

A Loudoun County judge has removed the county’s Commonwealth’s Attorney office from a criminal case saying the office has shown an inability to prosecute the case with professional standards, and is “deliberately misleading the Court and the public” in effort to “sell” a plea agreement.

According to the order, obtained by FOX 5’s Lindsay Watts, Plowman says the Commonwealth’s Attorney office sought a plea deal for a serial burglary suspect while downplaying and even omitting his prior criminal past and current charges in other jurisdictions.

Kevin Enrique Valle was arrested on five warrants charging him with three misdemeanors for destruction of property and false identification, and two felonies for burglary.

Plowman writes that the plea agreement by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Michele Burton states that the crimes occurred within hours of each other, not over the course of days or weeks. Plowman calls the assessment “entirely inaccurate,” because the defendant is accused of “a possible 12 burglary crime spree spanning four counties over ten days.”

Plowman ordered the Fauquier Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to prosecute the case writing that “Biberaj and the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is hereby REMOVED AND DISQUALIFIED from further prosecution as counsel of record in this matter.”

“The Commonwealth is deliberately misleading the Court, and the public, in an effort to ‘sell’ the plea agreement for some reason that has yet to be explained,” wrote Plowman, adding that Burton could have filed supplemental explanations, but to date, has not.

One former prosecutor speaking on the condition of anonymity because of continued work in the legal field said they were “pushed to bond people out in domestic violence cases,” and that “Buta pushes to let people out generally.”

According to data from Loudoun County’s Circuit Court, criminal indictments in the county have fallen dramatically, 67 %, since Biberaj was elected. In 2019, there were 681 indictments compared to 225 in 2021.

A judge got so sick of a prosecutor bending over backwards to get a criminal out of jail, to the point of lying to the court, that he removed her from the case.

That is a start.

A disqualification is serious and will be used against the DA again and definitely will be used against her in the next election.

The radical Left has pushed too far.

The wealthy ones in their gated communities may not have to face the ramifications of their actions but the rest of the people in those cities and counties do, and they are tired of the crime.

The last two years can be described as radical Left overreach and everyone but the sheltered radical Left are pissed at the results.

The pushback is gaining momentum.
