Israel and the border is gonna make ammo prices stupid again

An announcement from SG Ammo:

We have seen a massive spike in demand this past 5 days, with double ‘normal’ sales Saturday and Sunday, then triple normal on Monday, quadruple on Tuesday, and today is way up as well, when it will slow down is hard to say at this point as demand seems to continue to rise. If order volume continues to overwhelm the warehouse crew’s capacity to fill orders over the next few days we will have to make choices on how we reduce volume, which could involve increasing prices 5% to 15%, limiting selection to cases only, removing popular ammo options that are sold at extremely low profit margins from the website menu, minimum $$ orders, etc, all of which are highly unpopular with segments of out customer base, but necessary to maintain synchronization of warehouse capacity with order volume. We guarantee the advertised price in this email until noon CST on October 12th or while supplies last, however prices are subject to change after that. In my course of many conversations with clients, I commonly see that there is wide spread misunderstanding of ‘how it works’ in the ammo business, which is understandable because it takes decades of experience to learn the deeper details, and even then, there are always surprises along the way. One thing that a lot of people do not know is that the ammunition business is a fear-driven market, not consumption driven. Fear leads to stockpiling and hording beyond manufacturing’s capacity, which leads to shortages and price increases. This also strains capacity within the distribution system, and price increases are commonly used to slow down order volume while maintaining profitability. The masses react to scares of various types, driving demand up quickly, sharply and almost instantly, within minutes to hours of a disaster, swarming ammo suppliers like us with abnormally large order volume. Such is the case this week in reaction to the Israel – Palestine conflict, where sales skyrocketed Saturday morning and remained at double to quadruple ‘normal’ order volume since then. How long this sort of elevation of demand lasts varies and depends greatly on ‘aftershocks’, as in shocking events that drive additional fear in the wake of what happened just before. It take a series of events to drive the market way up like it was in 2013, or 2020 and 2021, and a single event typically will not do it alone. That said, should a series of shocking events unfold, this could drive the market up in a substantial way. I have seen people on the gun forums often make fun of the people who ‘panic buy’ the day of the disaster, however in my observations over the years, the people that buy in the first hours or few days of the panic beat the potential price increases and almost always come out ahead of those that wait and buy later in the short term, especially if the market prices are down at the time of the panic like they are these days. In my opinion, the market prices could turn back up so quickly and go up so far, that it is a safe to say it is a great time to buy ammo these days. Prices have come substantially from their peaks in 2021, and while it is always possible that they go slightly lower, there is currently a lot more room to go up which can happen in what seems like the blink of an eye. Stack it deep while it is selling cheap!! We have tons of low cost ammo options in stock so you can be ready for your next trip to the range, including all the popular calibers and with FREE SHIPPING on orders over $200. It would be wise to make your purchases while the market cycle is slow, profit margins are in the mid single digits and before demand elevates. With supply up and prices down, it is currently the best time to buy ammo that we have seen in the past 3 and a half years. We have discount prices on bulk ammo in stock with fast order processing, secure shipment packaging and free shipping on any order with over $200 worth of product, making for a more straight forward transaction without expensive surprises in checkout. We thank you for your support of our family owned and operated business, please stay subscribed for future SGAmmo newsletters. If you have some spare time please take a few minutes and look over the online catalog at www.SGAmmo.com

Thank you, Sam Gabbert, SGAmmo Owner

He’s not wrong.

We watched as Israel experienced the worst terrorist attack since 9/11 as thousands of Hamas breeched their border.

Simultaneously, Americans have been watching since the beginning of the Biden administration as millions of military age males poured over our border with no checks to see who they are.

Putting two plus two together and coming up with there being a chance that the US could see border related terrorism and violence wasn’t hard to do.

Americans responded in a uniquely American way, buy buying a shitload of ammo.

I don’t see this slowing down any time soon.

Warning for Friday

Former Hamas leader calls for day of jihad on Friday, and tells Muslims to ‘take to the streets’ in protest against Israel

Former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal has called for protests to take place across the Muslim world on Friday in support of the Palestinians, and for the peoples of neighbouring countries to join the fight against Israel.

‘[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday,’ said Meshaal, who currently heads Hamas’s diaspora office.

Meshaal’s call for a Friday 13th uprising was reiterated by Hamas itself, according to the Israeli-run, Washington DC-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

MEMRI said that Hamas urged its supporters in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel to rise up in what he called ‘the Al-Aqsa Flood’ – echoing what the the secretive Palestinian mastermind Mohammed Deif calls the attack he launched on Saturday against Israel.

‘We declare next Friday, ”The Friday of the Al-Aqsa Flood,” as a day of general mobilization in our Arab and Islamic world and among the free people of the world,’ Meshaal’s statement said.

‘It is a day to rally support, offer aid, and participate actively.

‘It is a day to expose the crimes of the occupation, isolate it, and foil all its aggressive schemes. It is a day to demonstrate our love for Palestine, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa.

‘It is a day for sacrifice, heroism, and dedication, and to earn the honor of defending the first Qibla of Muslims, the third holiest mosque, and the ascension of the trusted Messenger.’

The terrorist group said all should back their ‘just cause’.

We’ve seen pro-Hamas rallies around the world already, in support of the attack on Israel on Saturday.

Now those same people are calling for a global jihad.

At these pro-Hamas rallies, there has been the grotesque harassment of Jews.  This seems like an incitement to violence.

Act accordingly and be prepared.

Thunder Ranch

On the last Thursday of September, I made a religious pilgrimage to one of the holiest sites in Shootingdom.  The monastery of gunfighting, Thunder Ranch.

The course I took was Perfect Storm.  It was three days, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, all focused on handgun shooting.  This is considered the apex of Thunder Ranch pistol courses.  It is taught primarily by bajillion time world champion pistol shooter Rob Leatham, and the Michealangelo of 1911 builders, Jason Burton of Heirloom Precision.

Saturday started in the classroom with Clint Smith going over the philosophy of Thunder Ranch and why he teaches, as well as range policies and procedures.  His vision is very self-defense oriented.  Rob and Jason spoke next.  The reason they came in as instructors was more of the technical nature of shooting.  This class wasn’t just defensive drills, a lot of it was shooting faster, shooting better, and shooting with precision.

After the classroom, we went to the range.  It was cold and wet, and I very much under-packed for the weather.  Rob started us out on the wall drill.  Pointing towards the target, touch the trigger and pull until you feel “the wall” where the trigger is just about to break.  The whole point is to learn your trigger.  Then we drilled on controlled jerking of the trigger.  It’s the idea of pulling the trigger then releasing so you don’t feel for the reset.  The point is to get off the trigger and let it reset as fast as possible so you can get back on and to the wall when your sights come back to target so you can get the next shot off as fast as possible while still in control of the gun.  As past as possible while still in control was the theme of the first two days.  How fast can you shoot and still put rounds where you want them.  A good portion of Saturday afternoon was establishing people’s skill levels so Rob and Jason could help you.

Sunday, we started at the range.  It was still cold and overcast, but at least the rain stopped.  This is when we really started to get into the shooting drills and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone for speed and accuracy.  It was very intense.  If you weren’t shooting, you were reloading.

Sunday lunch we went up to Clint’s house and ate there, where we met his wife Heidi and his sister Sue.  Clint joined us for a little bit.  He is a very nice and funny guy.

The videos on YouTube of his gruff and profane directness are his training persona.  He reminds me of the General George Patton quote “When I want my men to remember something important, to really make it stick, I give it to them double dirty. It may not sound nice to some bunch of little old ladies at an afternoon tea party, but it helps my soldiers to remember. You can’t run an army without profanity; and it has to be eloquent profanity. An army without profanity couldn’t fight its way out of a piss-soaked paper bag. As for the types of comments I make, sometimes I just, By God, get carried away with my own eloquence.”

After lunch the sun came out and so did Clint to run us through the first series of defensive drills.  Clint would run us through drills, calling out shots, e.g., “one pelvis, two chest, one head.”  Clint is a big advocate of the pelvic shot.  Going so far as to demonstrate by having us track parts of his body with our thumbs to see which moved the most or least, head, chest, and pelvis.  We were expected to react as we would in a defensive shoot.  Yelling at the target to not move, show your hands, etc.

After Clint left, we began flashlight drills.  How to hold and shoot with a flashlight in the support hand.  The point was driven home, weapon lights are great, but in almost every low light defensive shooting (including with police), it starts with a handheld flashlight.

At the end of the day Sunday, we were walked through the famous, Terminator shoot house.  We did a no-gun instruction on room clearing with one of Thunder Ranch’s former LEO instructors.

On Monday, the weather was beautiful.  Each of us, in turn, got to go through a scenario in the shoot house.  Each one was different.  Mine was two guys had broken into my home in the middle of the night and the police response time is an hour.  Even having done a walk through the previous day, it was a nerve-wracking experience.  You can thing about clearing your house all you want, until you try it on two static targets, you have no idea how much more difficult it actually is.  That was probably my biggest learning experience and worth the cost of the trip.  While each person was doing that, the rest of the group was working on one handed drills.

Lunch on Monday was at the house again, and I gat to sat and listen to Clint talk.  I did have the opportunity to give him a patch and tell him about the blog, but I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of him with it.  He thought it was cool.  Rob and Jason got patches too.

After lunch, Clint came out again and did a second round of defensive drills.  These were tougher than the previous day.  He stressed accuracy, with our target being a two-inch circle drawn on the center of our cardboard target.  All hits were supposed to be inside of that.

After our second round of defensive drills, we had fun.  We did some plate rack challenges, I won that among the students.  Then we did a drill called “all you can get.”  Everyone started with seven rounds in the mag and one in the pipe.  On the beep, draw, fire, reload, and keep firing.  Every hit on a steel silhouette at 10 yards was a point until your first miss or the second beep after 10 seconds.  I tied for first at 25 points.

Rob jumped in a scored 21. Granted, he was shooting a single stack and my reload was 20 rounds, but I’m going to go with I beat Rob Leatham.  The other guy I tied with and I did a head-to-head tie breaker, and tied again at 21.  He missed the 22nd shot and I bumbled my reload by holding down the slide stop in a death grip and having to rack the slide instead of dropping it from slide lock.

The last challenge was a quickdraw elimination.  On the beep, draw and fire on a steel silhouette.  Anyone who missed or the last person to hit was eliminated.  Out of 16 shooters, I was the third to the last to be eliminated.  That said, the three of us shot half a dozen times where Rob couldn’t tell who was last.

Once that was over, we picked up brass.  We picked up brass every day.  Clint keeps a very clean range.  Then we went to the classroom for graduation.

In three full days I shot about 1,500 rounds.

It was an amazing experience and I’m glad that I went.

What some Jews with guns can do

Israeli woman Inbar Lieberman, 25, is hailed a hero for saving kibbutz Nir Am from invading Hamas

An Israeli woman has been hailed a hero after saving the community of Nir Am from Hamas as infiltrating terrorists began to invade.

Lieberman, who has been part of the security detail in the region since December 2022, heard explosions erupting early Saturday when Hamas launched the unprecedented and deadly attack on Israel.

She quickly realized that the sounds were different to those she heard during the usual rocket attacks on the kibbutz and rushed to open the armory and distribute guns among the 12-member security team.

The 25-year-old placed her squad of kibbutzniks in strategic positions across the settlement, set up ambushes, and turned the tables on the incoming forces.

She killed five terrorists herself, while the others claimed the lives of 20 more over a four hour period. Nir Am was turned into an impenetrable fortress, while nearby kibbutzim’s suffered heavier losses.

One Kibbutz suffered no casualties and sent 25 Hamas terrorists straight to hell with three invaluable things:

  1. Situational awareness
  2. The will to do something
  3. Guns

If only more Israelis in the region had those three things, the Israeli death toll would be lower, and the Hamas death toll world be higher.

This is an important lesson for all of us about being prepared and ready to act.

Wannsee University

The Wannsee Conference was the event in which the upper echelon of the Nazi Party planned Hitler’s final solution.

If you ever watch the incredible and horrifying movie Conspiracy, about the Wannsee Conference, one thing that will gnaw at your soul is how so many of those involved were lawyers and bureaucrats who used every rhetorical means to justify what it was they were planning.

They wanted to make it clear for all posterity, on the assumption they would be victorious, that the extermination of the Jews was the good and righteous thing to do.

It is exactly that idea that I have seen coming out of student groups on university campuses across America.

U of M Students Defend Hamas, Denounce Gov. Lee For Backing Israel

“There is no such thing as innocent civilians under the context of settler colonialism,” [a student] said. “Palestinian resistance and the genocide of ethic cleansing of their land and their people is not terrorism.”

A student at the University of Memphis only said she is for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel and believes that she is the good guy.

NYU Law School Bar Association’s non-binary president Ryna Workman sends email saying Hamas’ slaughter in Israel was ‘NECESSARY’ while refusing to condemn mass-murder of Jewish families

Workman, who goes by the pronouns they/them, wrote in a weekly newsletter to fellow Student Bar Association students: ‘Hi y’all.

‘This week, I want to express, first and foremost, my unwavering and absolute solidarity with Palestinians in their resistance against oppression toward liberation and self-determination.

‘Israel bears full responsibility for this tremendous loss of life.

‘This regime of state-sanctioned violence created the conditions that made resistance necessary.’

Referencing violent terrorist group Hamas, who have murdered innocent Israeli children, Workman said: ‘I will not condemn Palestinian resistance.’

From NYU to Harvard.

Harvard student organizations blame ‘Israeli regime’ for unfolding violence

The joint statement from the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups was signed by 35 organizations early Sunday, including Amnesty International at Harvard, Harvard Jews for Liberation, Harvard Divinity School Muslim Association, Harvard Law School Justice for Palestine, and Harvard Graduate Students for Palestine.

“Today’s events did not occur in a vacuum. For the last two decades, millions of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to live in an open-air prison,” the statement continued, noting that “Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years. Through the systematic seizure of land, airstrikes and more, and referred to the current political situation as “apartheid.”

Swarthmore, CUNY, Boston University, college after college has student groups justifying the Hamas attack in Israel in which Jewis women were raped, Jewish babies were butchered, and whole Jewish families were massacred.

The all use the language of justice and fighting oppression to justify Jewish mass murder.

These students would make the Wannsee Conference attendees proud.

The globalized Intifada is here

On Saturday, Hamas made a sneak attack in Israel, during the Sabbath on the holiday of Simchat Torah, the last day of the week of Sukkot.

Hundres of Israeli civilians were killed, thousands were injured, and an unknown number were kidnapped and taken prisoners in Gaza

Today, in major American cities, there are people celebrating that barbarism.

Chicago:

New York City:

Tampa:

Salt Lake City:

https://twitter.com/pslnational/status/1711139731990294819?s=19

These people are celebrating the killing of whole Jewish families, and then lie about the circumstances to justify their joy.

American Jews need to be aware that every single one of these people would have the same joy and reaction for your murder.

This is the globalized Intifada.

You are not safe.

The threat is here.

Get armed and prepare to defend yourselves.

A literal Red Dawn moment

I’m going to double down on what Miguel said yesterday.

This is why I am such a believer in gun rights and personal gun ownership.

In Israel, only active duty military have guns.  Reservists and civilians generally do not.  To obtain a gun permit as a civilian, you had to serve and reach, at a minimum, the rank of sergeant, which means you were career military.  Simply doing the minimum requirement of two years isn’t enough to qualify.

As Hamas penetrated the border wall and started going door to door to murder and kidnap Jews, these people had no defense.

They relied too heavily on the border way and the military to protect them.

You are your last line of defense.

When every other system of security fails, you are in your own.

Yesterday proved that even the best systems of security will fail.

You need to be prepared for when that happens.

Not if, when.

My hope is that after this is over, Israel learns that and changes its gun laws.

I hope no Israeli civilian is ever unarmed again.
