STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man who was assaulted by three juveniles while he was at work in Norwalk will have to spend 18 months in jail for stabbing one of the attackers.
“I was defending myself,” Jeffrey Sumpter, 21, told Judge John Blawie on Monday morning at the Stamford courthouse when he was sentenced for stabbing one of the males in the leg last October. Blawie told Sumpter that he understood and believed his version of events, but he said he had to follow the letter of the law.

Sumpter, dressed in a white prison jumpsuit with short sleeves, did not reply. His public defender Howard Ehring said unlike a state like Florida, which has a law allowing its residents to stand their ground, Connecticut law requires Sumpter to retreat from the beating he was given at the Dunkin’ Donuts where he worked.

Remember what I always say: You do not determine if you retreated enough. That is made by people who are gonna show up after the fact or a prosecutor from the comfort of his office a couple or more days later.

Duty to Retreat is the most imbecilic idea that can be attached to a defensive situation.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is allegedly going to be removed from his position next week, according to a report sourcing from high-ranking members within the local government.
Sheriff Israel -a controversial figure known for his failures concerning the 2018 Parkland shooting, his anti-gun stance and use of taxpayer money to plaster his face upon county vehicles during election season- is allegedly to be removed from office, according to a high level BCSO source speaking exclusively with political website Big League Politics.

The source claims Israel has been slated for removal on criminal grounds, following an investigation by the office of Florida Governor Rick Scott, who is soon running for a US Senate seat.

Israel would be the second Sheriff of Broward that had to leave office under the cloud of criminal behavior. Ken Jenne resigned in 2007 after pleading guilty of tax evasion and mail fraud. Sheriff Jenne was known about Gun People for his very fake CNN video about Pre and Post Ban “assault weapons.”

Now, if the information is true and Scott Israel is on its way out (in shackles to boot), we may have established a precedent:

“If you are a sheriff for Broward County, don’t fuck with the NRA or you will lose and end up in jail.”
