“It’s alive!… ALIVE!”

Hello everybody. We made it!

We are out of power, but we have Internet and Water. I am running the modem through the generator so I won’t stay long. It is a small 5K Watts which can do the Fridge, fans and not too much else.

I took a quick spin around the area this morning. Here is some of the damage.

I’ll update more later and do longer posts once the electricity and the Air Conditioning) are back.

And thank you thank you for all the good wishes and prayers. It did get sporty there for a bit.

Newspaper delivered?

I opened the front door just now to check on the neighborhood, and to my surprise, I saw that the Nuevo Herald, the Spanish version of the Miami Herald we get for my Mom was delivered.

And I had not realized that Saturday’s paper had not been delivered. Nor that we were caring anyway because there is a freaking hurricane in the neighborhood!

Who was the genius that thought they would make a great impression by sending the newspaper delivery squad to toss the birdcage poop trap under Tropical Storm conditions? Wind is gusting kinda hard, debris is flying. Cops and firemen are taking it easy (scanner has been illuminating)

Bad move Miami Herald, bad move.

The Abode of McThag: Case Study

This is also a misinterpretation of Florida’s emergency order law which bans the sale of guns and ammo. The law is for when the sheriff declares, in essence, martial law because of the devastation; not for when the governor declares a state of emergency.  You really have to dig into the statutes to find the distinction in the emergency declarations.

After all these years, there is still confusion about the sale of ammo. Of course certain local govs are purposefully obtuse just to “avoid” problems.

Broward County enacts a 4 pm curfew.

4:00 p.m. – Until Further Notice.

OK, I understand that there is danger out there, but apparently Democrats will love to exercise power even when unwarranted. Most People are not stupid to go out and party with debris around, but at the same time, the moment it passes, they will want to come out of the house after being cooped for so long under stress.

Then again a Democrat Mayor in a Blue county and the seat of Rep. Debby Wasserman Schulz, what do you expect?

Broward County: 4:00 p.m. – Until Further Notice
Coral Springs: 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
City of Fort Lauderdale: 4:00 p.m. – Until Further Notice
City of Deerfield Beach: 4:00 p.m. – Until Further Notice
Town of Hillsboro Beach: 4:00 p.m – Until Further Notice
The City of Miami Beach :  8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

The last two places are in Miami Dade County. And I have not heard of any other towns or the county itself imposing a curfew.

Getting hit by outer bands.

The tape is just to see the sustained winds in action. This gust I figure should be about 40-45 mph. And this is a baby, add 30 mph more and you have barely a Category one. 185 mph as initially expected? I can wrap my head around it.

Right now, we have probably a 15-20 mph sustained wind. It is supposed to reach sustained winds of 52 mph for tomorrow noon with gusts of 70. But as I have been saying, until that sucker’s eye is not past Latitude 27, I won’t feel somewhat safe.
