Whitey shoots at Postal Worker.

She told investigators that she saw a man later identified as Charlie Holley looking out of a second-floor window and yelling toward her. She had recognized him from delivering previous packages to “Whitey White.
As she approached the front door, the carrier said she noticed Holley pointing a black rifle at her, according to the complaint, which says he then instructed her to leave the package on the ground and open it.
She refused, saying she wasn’t allowed to open customers’ mail, after which investigators say Holley instructed her to move to the side.
The postal worker quickly left and got in her vehicle to drive away when “she heard a loud thud, which she believed was Holley shooting at her,” the complaint says.
A one-inch bullet hole was found in the back of the postal truck, authorities say. Nobody was hit.

Damned White Supremacists!

I wonder if he is gonna get charged with Cultural Appropriation also.

And yes, probably it was a shotgun.

South Beach: “White Supremacist” attacks three Alabama Men in homophobic attack.

Two decades ago when I moved to Miami, South Beach was Gay paradise. I am going to say 60% to 70% of businesses catered to Gay clientele and although you also got to see the sad and seedy part of night life, the idea of targeting gays with homophobic violence was unheard of.

Now? South Beach has become… I really can’t define it other than a mix of crowds in an alcoholic debauchery and a sense of anything goes without consequences.

If you re Gay and want to enjoy Florida sun and beach time, I think Key West is still an option.

The concealed carrying of an “ordinary knife.”

I believe we have been savvy enough to properly research gun laws for when we carry across state lines, but I will confess I keep forgetting about carrying knives and that is a field not as “even” (if there is such thing) as  concealed carry.

I have been spoiled by Florida’s Concealed Weapons License as it gives you a wide latitude when it comes to knives. And although many states are very knife friendly, there might be certain restrictions regarding some silly characteristic of the knife and some states actually frown upon anything that is not an “ordinary knife.”

IANAL Warning: I have no idea what legally defines an ordinary knife. I would have to look up the local jurisprudence and State Attorney interpretations, but I believe that something as well known as the Swiss Army Knife would be hard pressed to be considered anything but an ordinary knife.

I have told here many times I have not been without a Swiss Army knife since I was gifted one in my early teens. As great as they are, they are not “tactical” enough for some folks because the main blade does not lock open and that can be an issue when the doodoo hits the wind turbine.  But, there is one exception to the rule and that would be the Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker.

This is one of my EDC knives and has to be because those are the house keys attached to it.  And although it is not in the official Swiss Army red, the shield and the cross are universally knows to be Swiss Army Knife.

It is one hand operated with the use of the thumb and quite comfortably to boot. But caveat: The main blade is the only one that locks, anything else is standard.  The other quirk is that the lock tab needs to be pushed to the right to unlock the blade rather than the traditional push to the left which should endear it with the Southpaws.

And I know the fans of Case knives will rightfully point out that the company does have several offerings with locking blades and what can be more “ordinary knife” than a Case?

And you are welcome to share your solutions in the comments.

The importance of good Eye Protection

Comment from reader Therefore:

I’ve caught a brass case on top of my safety glasses. Yes, it left a painful blister. But the gun was down on the table before I reached up to remove it. OUCH.

I had a similar incident like that, but I had a set of eye-pro that was “generous” in its fitting and left a gap from the face big enough that I had a 9 mm case fly in and land on my right eyelid while shooting an IDPA stage. It was a pretty static stage and I was almost done so I force myself (cussing and all) to wait for the Safety Officer to do his thing before clawing the glasses off. I did get a small blister .

The other reason I got the case nested on my eyelid was back then I did not use any kind of brimmed hat, just a plain bandana, because cool and crap.

Florida State Match sometime in the early 2000s

I forget who gave me the advice to use caps or hats to help avoid the same accident, but it has become part of my safety routine at the range.  And for cool factor, I just went with this hat adorned with the appropriate pins

I haven’t seen nobody wearing a hat like that. Probably because of good taste.

So, wear good-fitting eye protection and wear something brimmed that shelves over your eyes. Shooting safely is no joke.
