Tennesse Rights Restorations for Felons not going the way some wanted.
“The Tennessee Supreme Court made it clear through Falls v. Goins that a felon must receive a pardon from the governor or other appropriate authority or have his or her full citizenship rights restored as part of the path to regain the right to vote. Under the Tennessee Constitution, the right to bear arms is a right of citizenship. Specifically, Article I Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution states, ‘That the citizens of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime.’” The Campaign Legal Center, a government watchdog group, said on Monday that such a policy change would be the first of its kind in the country. It expects it could prevent tens of thousands of Tennesseans from being able to restore their right to vote.
I am going to watch this one with a tub of popcorn. Democrats have long sabotaged the restoration of rights process to make sure it did not include the 2A and this twist which appears to be within the law and the state’s constitution just threw a gigantic monkey wrench to the acquisition of votes going for Democrats. In fact, it puts them in the situation of being the bad guys: “How come I can’t have all my rights? Why are you opposed to that? Just voting rights and for you? F*** you!”
Big tub of popcorn.

I think it was in 1978 or 79 when a friend introduced me to Renaissance via their Live at Carnegie Hall album. I fell in love with Annie’s voice and has been perpetually in my rotation since.
TN Gun Bills: HB 2193 & HB 1910
…imposes an additional 15-percent tax on the retail sale of firearms; requires revenue from the firearms tax to be deposited into the K-12 mental health counselor fund to be administered by the department of education and used exclusively to provide school counselors in elementary and secondary public schools and public charter schools in this state and for mental health assessments and services for students pursuant to a school counselor’s referral.
I saw this on the news and it is just and PR scheme to stigmatize gun owners. After the bill is fully rejected, Gun Grabbers will screech “We need money For The Children!™ You don’t care what happens to them! You just love your precious guns!”
Now, if money is needed, I propose a 15% extra tax on booze, alcohol and painkillers. Hell, in one week they will probably collect more money than they would do in a year of gun taxes. But this is not about funds for the healthcare of children and we know it.
And to throw you off the standard path, a bill that initially I would support (but the devil is in the details):
As introduced, requires the bureau to conduct a feasibility study on the development and implementation of a software application capable of being utilized on a voluntary basis by gun owners in this state who are not engaged in the business of importing, manufacturing, or dealing in firearms pursuant to federal law for the purpose of conducting a criminal history record check on a proposed purchaser of a used or second-hand firearm through a private sale…
Again, depending on the details and specially that no records are kept, I would not mind having this tool available. This was proposed in D.C after Sandy Hook only to be shot down as fast as the congress then could (By Chuckie Schummer IIRC). The Antis will bemoan that a prohibited person will not be facing criminal charges for attempting to buy a firearm, but that is pretty much what has been happening since the inception of the Brady Background Checks anyway.
More to come.
