The 3rd Precinct of the Minneapolis City Government sent out this tip sheet on how to deal with the spike in property crime in the city.

This is in the wake of the city council moving to defund the police and the city’s treatment of the police causing more than 10% of the police department to retire to take medical leave, resulting in a massive shortage of officers.

Here is the tip sheet:

“Be prepares to give up your cell phone and wallet.”

“Do not argue or fight with the criminal.  Do as they say.”

How many times have Miguel and I pointed out that this is no guarantee of safety.

There is no code of honor among thieves that says “if the victim gives everything willingly, you cannot hurt the victim.”

A criminal may want to hurt you are kill you to keep you from being a good witness (as the handout suggest) or just for the fun of killing you.

This kind of bullshit comes from the Liberal naivete that criminals are good people just pushed to commit crime because they are impoverished and victims of the system.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said exactly that about the crime spike in New York City.

Criminals who will take your cell phone and walled can and may also take your life.  You must believe them that they will exact on you the violence they threaten you will to make you comply.

This advice is not just bad, it’s dangerous.

  1. Be a good witness. When you call 911 be prepared to answer many questions…

How the f**k does calling 911 prevent robbery? During or after the fact, I’m sure I’ll remember all those details. I also note that one thing they didn’t mention about calling 911 was to wait for the police to respond, ‘CAUSE THEY WON’T.

I wonder how close the 3rd precinct free fire zone is to the location of the Democrat National Convention. Could make Chicago 1968 look like a beach party.

  2. Thankfully, the DNC is meeting in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Minneapolis went through that crap in 2008. It was a pain in the ass for everyone in the metro county area. Road closures, traffic jams, etc. The utility company I worked for had people deployed 24/7 at all their facilities for a week before and the entire week of the convention. Really screwed up my maintenance schedules.

    1. Oops sorry about that, need more coffee. Yeah I worked in downtown Charlotte during the 2012 DNC Convention. Took vacation that week.

  3. “Be prepared to give up your cell phone” and “call 911”. Um, yeah, call them with what?
Then again, given that this was created by Dem politicians, logic or intelligent thought are not ingredients.

  4. So, does that same advice apply to a rape attempt? Do not fight back, just try to enjoy it as much as you can? Call the cops afterward?

    1. There are lots of politicians as well as some alleged police people (typically chiefs, who are actually politicians) who indeed make that idiotic recommendation with respect to rape as well.
I remember a study on this I saw quoted within the past few years: it compared the incidence of serious injury or death from robbery and violent crime for three categories: (a) no resistance, compliance, (b) resistance with deadly force (firearm), (c) resistance other than with deadly force.
Option (c) came out worst, option (b) was best, and (a) was in the middle. So those politicians are correct after a fashion if you have the misfortune of living in a disarmed victim zone, because there your only options are (a) and (c). But if you live in a civilized location, go for option (b) for best results

  5. “Don’t stop for strangers who are trying to approach you or stop your car.”

So, the city is now recommending running over “peaceful protesters” who try to stop drivers? Which would be the only thing they got right in this entire list.

  6. It’s never wise to trust someone to respect your life, who for the sake of getting your stuff has just threatened your life.

Their actions show they value your stuff more than your life, but you’re supposed to trust them?

No. And not just No: F@#$ NO!

Doubly so if they’re trying to drag you into a van. “Give them what they want” doesn’t work out so well if what they want is your body and/or your life.

It’s for this reason that I firmly believe, if you threaten my right to life, you forfeit yours.
