Time Warp Again: HCI Semi-Annual Progress Report (December 1992)

For those who do not know, HCI stands for Handgun Control Inc. which was the original name for what we now know as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. They changed the name after the tide started to turn and realized the name was drawing too many negatives.

Here are some extracts from that report:

Handgun Control Semi-Annual Progress Report
December 1992

“Free the Brady Bill” Succeeds, But Measure Left Unfinished as
Congress Adjourns

…When it became clear that the Brady Bill was being held hostage to a stalled crime bill, Handgun Control launched a massive, national

grassroots effort to “Free the Brady Bill” and move it separately.  At
more than three dozen news conferences from coast to coast during the month of September, local handgun control advocates, doctors, teachers, mayors, law enforcement officers, clergy and victims joined together in an unprecedented effort to persuade Congress to send the Brady Bill tothe President.  On the kick-off day, Sarah Brady joined Coretta ScottKing and other civil rights leaders in Atlanta, and Jim Brady joined Mayor David Dinkins and law enforcement leaders in New York City to callfor action.  Ten other cities from Los Angeles to Portland, Maine, hosted events that first day.

102nd Congress Yields Gun Control Victories

Although the 102nd Congress adjourned without sending the Brady Bill to the President, it did produce two key gun control victories.
Congress stopped the restoration of gun rights to convicted felons, a program which had been administered by the federal Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).  This program, which cost ATF more than $4 million per year, and involved more than 40 full-time federal employees, had restored the right to possess firearms to more than 2,000 felons between 1985 and 1990.  In committee, Rep. Larry Smith (D-FL) added a provision to the Treasury, Postal Service and General Government Appropriations Bill which forbids ATF from spending any money on this program.  The bill subsequently cleared both Houses of Congress, was signed into law, and the money and staff will now be directed toward enforcing federal gun law.

NRA Fails to “Clinton-Proof” 103rd Congress
New Gun Control Supporters Elected.

…Newly elected HCI supporters include Senators-elect Carol Moseley Braun (D-IL), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Bruce Feingold (D-WI).

In the House, of the top 24 incumbents in the NRA’s “hit list,”
_only_two_were_defeated_.  Gun control leaders like Congressmen Bill Hughes (D-NJ), Herb Bateman (R-VA), Vic Fazio (D-CA), and Tom Andrews(D-ME) all beat back fierce challenges by well-funded, pro-NRA candidates.

Entertainers Join Fight Against Gun Violence

The Center’s Los Angeles-base Entertainment Resources Division is working with entertainers, writers and producers in an effort to get gun violence prevention themes incorporated into television, music and films.

In August, the Center held its first “lot briefing” at Universal
Studios, attended by more than 100 writers, producers, actors, and
entertainment executives, to familiarize them with the issue of gun
violence and to share ideas…The briefing included motivating and informative sessions on the issues of guns in the home, guns in schools, guns and self-protection, and children and guns.
A similar briefing was held in November at Warner Brothers Studios.
The Entertainment Resources Division will continue to encourage industry professionals to portray the tragic consequences of gun violence in their creative projects.

Take your time and go read the report. It also has lawsuits against gun stores, hobnobbing with Hollywood stars and much more.

So I asked a Gun Control Advocate….

… to provide me with the study and statistics about the benefits of Universal Background Checks and she sent me cute pictures with numbers in it. I am guessing she have graduated past crayola in school. One of pictures sent was this one:

HCI poster

Do notice the snarky remark “You won’t like statistics” but that was not what caught my attention.  I know I have seen that pic before, but not recently. And then it hit me:

lastyearhandgunskilled_thumb

This was an ad by no other than Handgun Control Inc. or as we know it since the year 2000, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.  Her alleged “statistic” is at least 14  24 years old, probably more.

May God keep the lot of them this dumb.

Update: I was just reminded by Sam C. that West Germany ceased to be in October of 1990, so this ad is at least 24 years old.

Mother Jones: ’cause you are all a bunch of stupid rednecks and easy to fool.

One would think such a bizarre proposal would prompt some level of debate, a modicum of sane opposition! After all, we’re talking about mere teenagers eerily striking poses with weapons in their adolescent hands. Alas, the idea was met with a unanimous yes by all members of the Broken Bow school board.

You see the picture Mother Jones used and barely give a glance to the article and if you are the low information reader, your gut will twist. Then again if you are smart, you figure out already that Mother Jones has had an axe to grind against gun owners for a very long time. The New York Daily News, not quite the bastion of Pro-NRA support also covered the news item, but instead they showed the actual pics to be used in the yearbook:

So, whatever happened to “We don’t want to ban all guns. We have no beef with people who hunt, it is only them Gun Nuts with Assault Weapons with High Capacity 600 rounds per second magazine clips that need to be banned.” line?

Oh yes! They are lying. They always do.

Not unexpected.
