The Mayor of Kingstown and 1883

The missus and yours truly had a chance to watch 3 episodes of The Mayor of Kingstown and one for 1883.

I like Jeremy Renner which is the reason I signed up for Paramount+ to watch the show.  I believe is an underrated actor who is capable to take any role in any type of movie. Go from any of his Avengers performances and then jump to Wind River to see what I mean.

The Mayor of Kingstown is about a family of wheelers and dealers of a town dedicated to the incarceration industry. I read somewhere that there is not a single main character with a redeeming value in the show and I would have to add that it also includes about 99% of the secondary ones. Yet, I hooked me because I felt I was watching a juggler play with 5 grenades at once, all with the pins straight and you are just wondering when the whole thing is just going to collapse spectacularly.

As for 1883, we only saw the first episode and the production value is outstanding. Sam Elliot is Sam Elliot and I have to give props to Tim McGraw; the sumbitch does a very nice job of acting. The story is being told (mostly) from the point of view of McGraw’s daughter in the series and I realized it reminded me a lot of the miniseries Centennial, specifically the part where Elly Zendt’s letters to her best friend were the narrative of the young couple traveling from Pennsylvania to Colorado.

Oh yes, lots of shooting and the guns appear to be period correct including a rolling block rifle (Sharps?) with a long scope.  Tim McGraw’s Colt SAA looks minimalistic and very nice and kudos to the producers for actually having a double barrel shotgun as the go-to weapon when SHTF or wrongs need to be righted. The experts can say what they want, but the gun that won the west was in my humble opinion, the 12-gauge side-by-side shotgun.

If you haven’t watched the shows, give them a try. If you had, leave a comment and tell me how wrong or less wrong I may be. 🙂

But they promised there wouldn’t be any crime!

Theft of water during a drought. The exploitation of immigrant laborers. Intimidation of residents by armed criminals.

A Democratic state senator from southern Oregon said his region, awash in illegal marijuana farms that are protected by gunmen, is starting to look more like a failed state.

After hearing him and others testify this week, the Oregon Legislature dedicated $25 million to help police, sheriff’s offices and community organizations pay for the ballooning costs of cracking down on the thousands of industrial-scale, illegal cannabis farms. Residents said the assistance is welcome but not enough.

Awash in illegal cannabis farms, Oregon plans millions for relief – OPB

Damn it! This si what the War on drugs has brought us. If we would only legalize pot and allow for the farming of it under government control, we would not be seeing stuff like this happening.

Seven years after Oregon voters passed a ballot measure legalizing the recreational use of marijuana and its regulated cultivation and sale, the state is grappling with an explosion of illegal marijuana farms that have brazenly cropped up, primarily in Josephine and Jackson counties in the south.

How’s that possible? /end sarcasm>

I am still amazed that government and potheads in general thought crime cartels would just go away with their heads bowed in defeat. You go ahead and allow a demand to be increased tenfold by legalizing a drug habit and you thought only those you allowed because you make them pay “legal” extortion money will produce the Devil’s oregano? And the farmers rather than point out the idiocy, go after other farmers.

The farmer also blames landowners for selling or leasing property to bad actors.
“If somebody walks onto your property with a suitcase with $100,000 in $20 bills, you kind of know they’re not on the up and up. And if you take that money and allow them to do something on your land, you should probably anticipate that they’re there to break the law,” he said.

Dude, if some Mexican enforcer show up with a shitload of cash for my land (rental or buy) I’d take the money too. They still run under the directive of “Plomo o Plata” (Lead or Cash) and I enjoy breathing pretty much to risk it because you were dumb enough to buy in the Legalization fairy tale and now you are butthurt and soaked with debt.

The Law of Unintended Consequences never fails to impress me.

White Supremacist gang targeting Asian women, arrested.

The Bay Area is home to one of the largest Asian and Pacific Islander populations in the entire country — it has also been a hotbed for the recent spike in violent hate crimes against the aforementioned community. Six men have been arrested in connection with a string of robbery attacks on Asian American women, committing over 200 heists in Nothern California.

According to the San Jose Police Department, Anthony Michael Robinson (24), Cameron Alonzo Moody (27), Derje Damond Banks (23), Hassani Burleson Ramsey (24), Clarence Jackson (21), and Malik Short (21) all had been targeting women of Asian descent throughout various parts of the Bay Area and Santa Clara County. It is also being reported that this team of criminals coordinated and executed more than 70 heists in San Jose and as many as 177 throughout the San Francisco Bay Area during a one-year span.

The efficiency of their criminal activity was predicated on stalking their victims as a team and closing in on them at secluded locations. But according to the District Attorney, Jeff Rosen, there were other reasons why this group sought to harm women of Asian descent.

I feel much better knowing the threat of the KKK and its sympathizers is less now. POC should rejoice!

NBC News reinforces my belief that Thomas Harris predicted the world today

Deadnaming is the moral sin against transpeople of using their birth (pre-transition) name.

I keep saying that the actual number of trans individuals, those who actually have gender dysphoria, is rather small.

Instead, most people who identify as transgender are like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

What we have an overabundance of is emotionally damaged people with personality disorders who hate themselves and have glommed onto transgenderism as a way of rebooting themselves with the added benefit of victim status.

That’s why deadnaming is so “traumatic,” it reminds them of the person they were and hated and have tried to escape.

Apparently the UPenn swimmer was a medal winner in high school but not in college on the men’s team.  One transition later he’s not just a medal winner but a record breaker.  It doesn’t take much understanding of psychology to fathom why a young man who went from effortless winner to struggling loser would be full of self loathing and want to reinvent himself as a winner, especially a winner who cannot be criticized.

I’ll bring it back to the issue of transwomen lesbians.   To the man (pun intended), they were incels pre-transition.  A common refrain in the incel community is that the girls who reject the incels are lesbians.

It doesn’t take that much of a jump to get why incels who say the women who reject them are lesbians and are full of self loathing because they can’t get laid decide to transition and become lesbians themselves.  To prey on the women who rejected them as men.

To deadname these sexual predators exposes their incel past.

I have empathy for people with actual gender dysphoria who just want to function as normal individuals.

I have nothing but contempt for the people with personality disorders why use the trans social justice movement to manipulate society rather than fixing themselves.

A quick thought on Cowboy Bebop

The wife and I have been watching the Netflix live action remake of Cowboy Bebop, and to be honest, I’ve been enjoying it.

There is nothing about it, save one minor character, that feels Woke.

The visuals are great and John Cho does really good action sequences.

I know virtually nothing about the original Anime show and I’ve never seen it.

Apparently, according to the internet, my liking the Netflix remake makes me a bad person, and the show being canceled is a good thing.

I don’t enjoy Anime.  First, there are thematic and stylistic aspects of Anime that don’t appeal to me.  Many of those are definitely unique to Japanese culture.

Netflix doing it as an American live action softened those aspects and made it more watchable to my American sensibilities.

Second, I hate Anime fans.  To me, Anime fans rank just above pedophiles and just below furries.  Considering that some of the Japanese themes and styles tend towards pedophilia, you can see why I feel this way.

As someone who attended two small engineering colleges, I have a lot of familiarity with Anime fans and they definitely fall into the class of people who replace a personality with a Fandom.

The Anime fans were almost universally Weebs (Weeaboo) who are total weirdos.

So not just did Anime not appeal to me, Anime fans were a detestable group I wanted no association with.

So much so I was actually reticent to try the Netflix Cowboy Bebop until my wife watched a few episodes and told me to give it a chance.

So I did and I enjoyed it now those incel Weebs  pissed and moaned that the Netflix remake was not a faithful enough reproduction of their beloved Anime for them to watch while snuggling their waifu pillows in their parents basements surrounding by weeks worth of stinking empty Maruchan Ramen noodle cups and got it canceled.

All this does is make me hate Anime fans even more.
