  1. Not his fault. You can blame Ike if you want to, but the real reason was that Patton was the general that the nazis feared the most. Ike used that fact to great advantage with a clever deception campaign which fooled the nazis even after d-day. When the time was right, he unleashed Patton and the 3rd Army, and the only thing that stopped them was lack of fuel. Of course, that is an oversimplification but you get the idea. Read about the amphibious landings in Sicily and you can get a better idea of Patton’s behavior during an assault.

    1. It just seems that was a terrible loss of good men during that invasion. I’m not sure if there was a better alternative, but so many things, such as the men drowning coming off the landing craft seems like poor planning.
